Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of feeding fodder obtained from diversified dry land farming on daily weight gain, chest girth, shoulder height, and body length of male fattening Bali cattle. This study used a double Latin square design (LSD) with 4 treatments, namely T0 = local feed of farmers in Timor (farmer model). T1 = Diversified farm feed (T1 + mulato grass), T2 = T1 + legume Clitoria tarnatea, T3 = T2 + horticulture by-product using 4 periods as replicates. The livestock observed were eight male Bali cattle aged eight months to one year and weighed 97-121 kg (average 108.5 kg). The results showed that the feeding fodder obtained from the diversified farming had a significant effect (P<0.05) on daily body weight gain but not significant (P>0.05) on the linear body size measurements (chest girth, shoulder height, and body length). Considering the economical and convenient features, T2 feed treatment provided a greater contribution of 21.74% compared to control.

Abstract

The cause of the low productivity of mung beans is partly due to the inefficient use of production factors, which will theoretically affect the profit level of farming. This study specifically aims to analyze the allocation of the use of production inputs and to analyze the profit function of mung bean farming. Data collection used a survey method by interviewing 52 farmers in Central Malaka District, Malaka District, East Nusa Tenggara. Data analysis used a quantitative descriptive method, through the analysis of farm costs, and analysis of the Cobb-Douglass Unit Output Price profit function. The results showed that mung bean farming was profitable with a profit rate of around 7.66 million rupiah per hectare. The allocation of farming inputs that significantly affect production are land area, seeds, and pesticides, with coefficient values of 0.96, 0.56 and -0.49, respectively. Meanwhile, variable inputs that significantly affect profits are fertilizer prices, pesticide prices, and labor costs, with coefficient values of -0.43, 0.43, and -0.75, respectively. These results inform several aspects: (a) increasing the area of land and seeds increases production, conversely increasing the use of pesticides can reduce production and therefore it is necessary to adjust the correct dosage, (b) the use of fertilizers is not significant to production caused by the application dose is too low, ( c) the use of labor is not significant to production and its addition reduces profits, so it needs to be more efficient in its use by prioritizing the quality of the workforce.

Abstract

Rote Island holds significant potential for seaweed development; however, the existing marketing system has yet to provide adequate welfare guarantees for seaweed farmers, as well as for other market participants. This study aims to analyze the structure, conduct, and performance of the seaweed market in Rote Barat District, Rote Ndao Regency, using the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) approach. A mixed-methods research design was employed, with primary data collected through questionnaires and interviews involving 38 seaweed farmers and other market actors. The findings indicate that the market structure is oligopsonistic, with a concentration ratio (CR4) of 17.49% and a Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) of 10,000, reflecting a highly concentrated market. Barriers to market entry are also substantial, as evidenced by a Minimum Efficiency Scale (MES) of 62%. In terms of market conduct, prices are determined unilaterally by large traders and aggregators, while farmers tend to act as price takers. Market performance reveals high marketing margins and low farmer shares, indicating an unequal distribution of profits that disadvantages producers. Therefore, policy intervention and institutional strengthening, such as the formation of seaweed cooperatives, are necessary to foster a more transparent and equitable market system.

Abstract

Sorghum is an important alternative food commodity for some rural communities in East Nusa Tenggata (NTT). This research is to find out the determinants of farmers' responses to the cultivation and utilization of sorghum in the research area. This study involved 30 respondents in sorghum cultivation and 30 respondents from non-sorghum cultivation which were found intentionally. Using survey methods to obtain data. Data were analyzed using the logistic regression model. The results of the study found that the factors that significantly influenced the cultivation and utilization of sorghum were non-formal education factors and the number of family dependents. This finding indicates that sorghum is used as an alternative food if staple food is reduced (entering a famine). The public needs to be educated and advocated that sorghum is not only used as an alternative food commodity in case of food shortages, but sorghum has high nutritional value and is easy to cultivate. Government intervention and the role of the community need to be increased in educating and advocating for farmers.

Abstract

Farming is one of the industries most susceptible to risk and unpredictability in terms of results and profitability. In Noelbaki Village, Central Kupang, Kupang. This study intends to examine income, income risk, and factors that influence lowland rice farming income risk. To identify 46 respondents, the sample was determined using a basic random sampling procedure. Primary data was acquired through interviews and a questionnaire for this study. The income function model's input-output methodology, coefficient of variation (CV), and residual squared are used in data analysis. The average value of income in lowland rice cultivation per hectare each growing season was Rp. 28,374,581,-/ha/MT, according to the findings. The CV score of 3.26 percent indicates the average amount of income risk in lowland rice growing. Land area, fertilizers, insecticides, and UPT are elements that minimize income risk, whereas seeds raise income risk. Because seeds dictate the quality of plant development, whereas other production elements may be regulated by farmers, this suggests that seeds are a determinant of income risk. Farmers must pay attention to seed quality if rice growing is to stay risk-free.
