Abstract

This study explores the asymmetric effect on the rupiah exchange rate on every subsector agriculture export in Indonesia during 2006-2020. The non-linear ARDL method is used in this study to analyze the asymmetric relationship between exchange rate and export. NARDL method includes short-run and long-run coefficient estimates and embraces the asymmetric effect. The previous studies generally used the linear models on the aggregated data and ignored the differences in each export of the agricultural sub-sector, then they offered ambiguous results. The latest studies have preferred to use the method of NARDL on the agricultural sector in general data. Instead of using agricultural export data for each subsector, this paper considers subsector export data of agriculture. The estimated NARDL results indicate an asymmetric effect of the rupiah exchange rate on exports of the agricultural sub-sector in the long run. In general, there is no asymmetric effect in the short run. Generally, depreciation and appreciation of the Rupiah have a negative effect on exports of the agricultural sub-sector in the long run. However, rupiah appreciation positively impacts lag 2, and depreciation caused a different effect on each sub-sector. The NARDL results suggest that positive movements have lesser impacts than those of negative movements in the exchange rate on the agriculture sector both in the short and long run

Abstract

One of the common characteristics of rural areas is their vulnerability to socio-economic and environmental shocks. Therefore, rural development policies should consider these features to take full advantage of the benefits of rural development. This study aims to develop a pastoral assessment based on the TOPSIS-Etropy-Inhomogeneity Method. This research was conducted in Lampung Province using data at the regency level. The data uses village data from the 2018 Village Potential Survey (PODES). The results show that rural areas' exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity factors play an essential role in rural development regarding vulnerability and resilience. Pesisir Barat, Mesuji, and Tulang Bawang Regencies are highly susceptible to low adaptation factors such as difficult access to health centers, inadequate credit facilities from the government, quiet village anticipation and mitigation, and a lack of security systems. The lowest vulnerabilities are in Tanggamus and North Lampung Regencies with common sensitivity factors, where people with malnutrition, persons with disabilities, households living in slums, and the habit of not using river water or the like for drinking or cooking have lower scores. In addition, other factors contribute to vulnerability, and these factors should be considered in rural development policies

Abstract

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam that must fulfilled by all Moslems. The potential of zakat in 2015 was 280 trillion rupiah, but the actual of zakat collected in 2015 were only about 4 trillion rupiah or about 1.4 percent of its potential. This shows that the performance of zakat, both in term of collecting or distributing, were not optimal. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the performance of government and society in managing zakat, the performance of zakat institution, and the effect of zakat towards the welfare of those who have right to receive zakat in Yogyakarta. This research is conducted by using survey method through an interview using questionnaire. The sample is chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The analysis is done by using Indeks Zakat Nasional using Mixed Methods. The result shows that the performance of zakat management in Yogyakarta is quite good with the index value of 0.4338.

Abstract

Purpose ― This study examines the impact of oil price shocks on macroeconomic indicators, namely real GDP, real exchange rates, inflation, real interest rates, the balance of payments, and unemployment rates in four ASEAN countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Methods ― This research uses a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The oil price variable in this study was divided into two, namely, the increase and decrease in oil prices based on the Mork transformation. Findings ― The analysis showed that the impact of price increases tended to encourage the economy of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. The shock of falling oil prices tended to cause a decline in the economy of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. The shock of rising prices tended to hamper the economies of Indonesia and Thailand. The shock of falling oil prices did not always positively impact the economy of the importing country, especially for the balance of payments. Implication ― These results show that price shocks will produce different economic responses. Understanding a country's macroeconomic framework is important before implementing effective policies. Originality ― These results expand the literature on the impact of oil price shocks on macroeconomic indicators in developing countries and small open economies, while studies related to macroeconomics generally focus on growth and inflation. This study also distinguishes oil price shocks into rising and falling oil price shocks using the Mork transformation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze changes in household consumption patterns in rural and urban areas due to price changes in the rice commodity. The data sources used were the 2016 National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS). Household food consumption data were grouped into ten food groups, while respondent households were grouped into four household groups, i.e., rich urban, poor urban, rich rural, and poor rural groups. The research methodology used was QUAIDS and Elasticity. The results showed that the characteristics of the four household groups on the variable number of household members and the age of the household head had almost the same average. However, the household heads were different in the variable of education length. The longest education was in the rich urban group, while the least was in the poor rural group. Likewise, the highest average income was the rich urban group, and the lowest was the poor rural group. As for commodities, the poor areas share that were greater than the rich ones are rice, other carbohydrates, fat, fruits, spices, and other ingredients. In contrast, the larger commodities in rich areas than in poor areas were meat, eggs-milk-and beans, vegetables, cigarettes, and prepared foods. Of the four commodity groups, the highest share was cigarettes and prepared foods, greater in rich areas than in poor areas, both for urban and rural areas. For the rice commodity, the household group with the highest share was the poor rural group of 0.23, while the smallest was the rich urban group of 0.1033

Abstract

Abstract

Rice turns out as significant commodity in order to meet people’s needs of food on a half of the world's population. Rice is the most consumed commodity in Asia and wold, especially countries that are members of the ASEAN+3. The need for rice that is a basic necessity must be met, thus, the supply must be maintained as well to meet the needs of staple food, and every country conducts a trade through import activities. This study aims at examining whether there is a spatial interaction of rice import in the ASEAN+3. The results of the Moran I Test show that there is a spatial interaction on rice import in the ASEAN+3 towards 11 selected countries. Trade groupings (agglomeration) were also identified in the trade area. Identification of trade groupings occurs in several countries regarding countries that are in the low-high quadrant such as Vietnam, Thailand, Republic of Korea and Indonesia.

Abstract

The initiation of market within ASEAN members especially for agricultural products will lead to the price relation on those products. The low of one price will take place if no trade barriers are imposed. As a result, price transmission and also market integration are hampered due to this trade policy. The objective of this study is to analyze spatial market integration of rice commodity in Thailand, Philippines, and the Indonesia. The studies used secondary data such as monthly price of rice and domestic exchange rate each country to US Dollar. Vector Auto Regression model was then applied to investigate whether rice markets in these countries are co-integrated. The result showed that rice market in Thailand, Philippines, and the Indonesia are co-integrated however at a weak level. This condition is a consequence of import policy (tariff and non-tariff) applied by these countries. Keywords: market integration, price, rice
