Abstract

The background of this research revolves around the need to understand the complex relationship between Good Corporate Governance (GCG), Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR), zakat, Shariah Governance (SG), and Shariah Compliance (SC) in the context of financial institutions, particularly Islamic banks. This study adopts a holistic framework to explore their interconnected impacts on the financial health of Islamic banks. The research utilized a comprehensive literature review with qualitative analysis, aiming to gain a thorough understanding of the subject from 2010 to 2023. The findings indicate that in the face of business complexity and global market dynamics, Islamic banks need to implement concepts such as Good Corporate Governance (GCG), Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR), Zakat, Shariah Governance (SG), and Shariah Compliance (SC). The holistic integration of these principles can have a significantly positive impact on the financial health of Islamic banks. GCG provides a robust foundation for risk management and transparency, ICSR enriches the social and environmental dimensions, Zakat plays a crucial role in wealth redistribution and community economic empowerment, while SG and SC ensure adherence to Shariah principles and maintain the integrity of financial institutions. By effectively applying these concepts, Islamic banks can strengthen their position in facing market challenges and enhance their contributions to sustainable economic development.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of mergers and acquisitions on the financial performance of Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises, specifically in terms of Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and the Price-to-Earnings (P/E) Ratio. To test the hypothesis, the research incorporates fundamental factors such as Revenue, Current Ratio, and Debt-to-Equity Ratio, alongside external influences like Exchange Rate, Oil Price, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Mergers and acquisitions are considered moderating factors in this relationship. This study employs a Panel Data Regression Model using Generalized Least Squares (GLS) for initial estimates, followed by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) to further refine the analysis. The data is sourced from 132 publicly listed Indonesia's state-owned enterprises on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, covering the period from 2010 to 2021. The study shows that Revenue significantly affects ROA, ROE, and P/E Ratio, while the Debt-to-Equity Ratio impacts ROA and P/E Ratio. Among external factors, the exchange rate influences both ROA and ROE. The analysis reveals that mergers and acquisitions lead to notable changes in financial performance, particularly in the P/E Ratio, where Revenue and Debt-to-Equity Ratio have a stronger effect. Additionally, when combined with the Current Ratio, mergers and acquisitions enhance their impact on ROA, ROE, and P/E Ratio. These findings suggest that holding policies improve operational efficiency in Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises and that investors benefit from potential capital gains following merger announcements. However, while the holding policy shows positive results, further governance improvements are needed for long-term success.

Abstract

The flow of agricultural products through imports has the potential to increase with the geographical conditions of adjacent RCEP countries. Economic and non-economic factors can affect imports of agricultural products. This study aims to analyze the spatial effect and the factors that influence the import of agricultural products in Intra RCEP. This study uses a data period from 2013-2019. The analytical method used in this research is Moran's global index, Local Indicator of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA), and Geographically Weighted Panel Regression (GWPR). The results show a spatial effect of imports of agricultural products in intra-RCEP. China, Japan, and South Korea are countries that are geographically concentrated in importing agricultural products within the intra-RCEP. The factors that significantly affect the total value of imports of agricultural products are GDP per capita, trade openness, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and government effectiveness. The policy recommendations in this study are implementing the RCEP agreement in the long term, open market access, encouraging increased investment in the agricultural sector, and an efficient bureaucracy.

Abstract

Rice trade was also influenced by the proximity factor between regions. This study analyzed the influence of spatial effects on rice exports in ASEAN countries. The analytical method used in this study is a quantitative method and Spatial panel data regression was used in analyzing spatial effects using panel data regression analysis.  The data used was panel data with a time series from 2005 to 2019 and between individuals covering 10 ASEAN member countries, namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. Data processing was assisted by using the R Studio application. Based on the regression analysis of spatial panel data to see the spatial effect on intra-ASEAN rice exports, it can be concluded that there was a spatial effect on intra-ASEAN rice exports. In addition, the results of this study also show that there was a relatively weak spatial agglomeration in rice exports in the ASEAN region.

Abstract

There are two kinds of factors that influenced companies’ valuation: systematic factors and fundamental factors. The relationship between the company valuation of cement companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and several systematic factors and fundamental factors need to be identified to know determinant factors of the valuation. The valuation of each company from 2013 to 2019 was examined to four systematic factors: the excess capacity of each company (idle capacity), market share, government infrastructure spending, and excess supply of cement in the market. As a result of the panel data regression between valuation as the dependent variable and the four systematic factors in this research, the market share has a greater influence on the valuation than the other three factors, the government infrastructure spending, the excess capacity of each company, and the oversupply of cement in the market. Fundamental factors as valuation determinants have been examined and identified, then through relative valuation-multiples, the panel data regression of valuation as the dependent variable and fundamental factors showed companies fundamental factors have a higher influence on the valuation of SMCB, SMGR and INTP, meanwhile, non-fundamental factors have a higher influence on SMCB and SMCB and SMBR valuation. Keywords: valuation, infrastructure budget, oversupply of cement market, company’s excess capacity

Abstract

The study's goal is to explore the relationship between investor sentiment, stock return, and volatility in Indonesian markets, with a focus on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). This research looked at the Indonesia Stock Exchange's (IDX) monthly statistics on stock trading volume from January 2015 to January 2021 to infer the attitudes of both institutional and retail investors. The analysis also uses a variety of well-known and accepted factors from the literature on asset pricing, such as the Covid-19 index, a reliable indicator of Indonesia's underlying market conditions. Error Correction Model was used to analyze a regression between investor sentiment and fundamentals in the Indonesian stock market in order to determine the impact of macroeconomic and Covid-19 risk variables on sentiment (ECM). Next, it looked at how unexpected shifts in Indonesian investor sentiment affected stock returns and IDX volatility with the help of Impulse response functions (IRFs) derived from a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) model. Individual and institutional investors' stock market returns and IDX volatility were found to be affected more by rational than by irrational attitudes, according to the empirical findings. Keywords: investor sentiment, IDX, stock returns, volatility, VECM

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of liquidity on BEP and ROE in Indonesian banking industry. The supporting theory in this study is ALMA theory. Based on annual data for the period 2001-2014 and following purposive sampling technique, the acquired amount of sample study is 97 banks. The data is analyzed using panel data regression of GMM Arrelano Bond, as a novelty in data processing, therefore the speed of adjustment can be known. The ALMA variables such as LAR, capital, leverage, operating expenses, interest income, and CAR sensitivity have a significant effect on BEP and ROE. Meanwhile LDR, NPL, the FBI have no impact on profitability. The implication of this study is the fact that banking performance in Indonesia can be leveled up through the reduction in mortgage interest rates and increment of credit volume and FBI.

Abstract

The construction sector in Indonesia has a strategic contribution to the national economy. This can be seen clearly by the increasing development of office buildings, hotels, apartments and malls as well as road construction projects, toll roads, flyovers, and so on, this will have an impact on improving Indonesia's infrastructure. Along with the increase in market capitalization on the SMinfra18 Index, it becomes ironic when it is not accompanied by the performance, volume and value of the SMinfra18 Index which is still volatile. It is feared that this will lead to financial distress as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, so that many companies cannot fulfill their obligations to banks. Basically, financial distress becomes an interesting thing that business stakeholders need to know, especially management and investors. For management to be able to manage and maintain business performance, while for investors as an indicator of investment activities. The purpose of the study is related to 1) The condition of the financial performance of companies listed in SMInfra18. 2) Factors that affect SMInfra18 financial distress and 3) The relationship between financial distress and stock returns in SMInfra18. The analysis method used is panel data regression using Debt Service Coverage Ratio, Profitability Ratio (ROE), Liquidity Ratio (WC / TA), Activity Ratio (TATO), Efficiency Ratio (EBITDA / TA) and Leverage Ratio (DAR). The results provide an illustration that there are differences and financial distress conditions in each company and the grouping and conditions of financial distress and stock returns have not been able to have a unidirectional relationship from time to time.

Abstract

Capital availability is necessary to support economic growth in order to reach its potential. Sources of capital supply might come from various sources owned by the state or foreigners. One of the foreign capital supplies comes from foreign direct investment (FDI). Recently, FDI is known to be one of the factors driving the national income of various countries in the world, including ASEAN countries. This study examines the influence of FDI, inflation, and the labor force participation rate (TPAK) on GDP in ASEAN countries. This study used secondary data in the form of panel data from eleven ASEAN countries for the period 2010 to 2020. The analytical method involved using the static panel analysis with the best model in the form of a fixed effect model (FEM) equipped with descriptive statistical analysis for each variable in this study. The results confirmed that FDI has a positive and significant effect on GDP. Meanwhile, inflation and TPAK has a negative and significant impact on nominal GDP in ASEAN countries over the time span of observation. For this reason, the governments of each country need to formulate strategies and policies to encourage investment improvement and economic stability. This is important to support each country's economy to achieve its best potential.
