Abstract

Smartphone addiction scale-short version or SAS-SV has been consistently found to have one-factor structure and proven as a valid and reliable instrument to measure smartphone addiction. However, it has not been validated among the undergraduate students in Malaysia. With the aim to address such empirical gap, this study has validated its one-factor structure and assessed its reliability and validity among the 680 undergraduate students in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Its content validity was first demonstrated. Subsequently, the findings of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) have supported and confirmed its one-factor model. Furthermore, its convergent validity and reliability were also proven to be satisfactory. Taken together, this study has demonstrated that SAS-SV is an instrument that can reliably and accurately measure or identify smartphone addiction symptoms among the undergraduate students in Malaysia.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia faces a serious threat due to the increasing number of smokers. Based on data BPS for 2020-2022, the percentage of people who smoke in Yogyakarta City is 23.97%, an increase from 24.54% in 2021. However, the proportion of children and adolescents aged 12 to 21 years who smoke is increasing in Sleman Regency. Furthermore, this increase represents a 16.1% increase in the approximately 200,000 youth living in Sleman District. Methods: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of audiovisual counseling and leaflets on adolescents' knowledge and attitudes toward smoking cessation decisions in Candibinangun Pakem Village. Using Systematic Literature Review (SLR) research design. National and international literature indexes "Pubmed", "Google Scholar", "JAMA Network" and public health databases were used as samples. In data collection, extraction and analysis will be carried out using the PRISMA method. Results: The researchers identified 917 articles, including 199 from PubMed, 705 from Google Scholar, and 13 from JAMA Network, which were screened using the PRISMA method. The screening resulted in 8 articles, excluding 2 from the total of 6 articles, based on the identified keywords. Conclusion: The systematic review reveals that audiovisual media and leaflets significantly influence knowledge and attitudes, impacting implementation, acceptance, and outcomes. However, some behaviors are challenging to change due to environmental factors or lack of need. Therefore, community encouragement is needed to enhance knowledge and attitudes, particularly in reducing smoking prevalence.

Abstract

Individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may have serious fundamental deficits in communication, social, inventiveness, and constructive skills. In the age of technology, children with disabilities frequently employ assistive technologies to aid in their learning and support the rehabilitation process, particularly for autism. Individuals with ASD require technology-based tools such as software or applications that could assist them with communication, language, organizing skills, and information processing. This research developed an augmented reality (AR) application integrating picture exchange communication systems (PECS) to aid children’s communication and social skills. A single-case experimental design (SCED) method was used to analyze the features and effectiveness of AutistAR. The study included a sample of two individuals diagnosed with ASD, characterized by restricted communication and social abilities. The result revealed that there was an improvement in overall communication and social skills in both participants. The ramification of the findings is further explored.

Abstract

Impostor syndrome is a psychological phenomenon characterized by persistent feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt despite evidence of competence and success. This systematic review aims to explore the prevalence, impact, and factors associated with impostor syndrome among individuals in higher education settings based on recent 6 years’ publication in journals (from 2019 to 2024). A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted, yielding a total of 37 relevant studies that met the inclusion criteria. The findings suggest that impostor syndrome is a prevalent issue among students and faculty academic staff in higher education, with varying degrees of severity. The syndrome can negatively impact academic performance, career development, and overall well-being. Several factors contribute to the development of impostor syndrome, including gender, minority status, high achievement orientation, and perfectionism. However, further research is needed to better understand the underlying mechanisms and effective strategies for addressing impostor syndrome in higher education.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major problem among the elderly characterized by a high and increasing prevalence. However, the knowledge and attitudes of the elderly regarding hypertension are still relatively low. Flipchart education for elderly hypertension patients is one of the efforts to improve the knowledge and attitude of the elderly, as well as increase patient satisfaction with health services. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and impact of flipchart education on the knowledge and attitudes of hypertension patients in the elderly. This study is an experimental study using a quasi-experimental approach. The study population consisted of 136 elderly people diagnosed with hypertension. Sampling was carried out using non-probability sampling method with convenience sampling, namely selecting samples based on convenience and practicality. Data analysis was performed using bivariate analysis with paired sample T-test using SPSS Version 25 software. The results showed that before receiving flipchart education, the elderly had an average knowledge score of 11.43, which increased to 14.46 after the intervention. Similarly, the average attitude score increased from 45.82 before education to 64.70. The paired correlation results showed a significant p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Education with flipchart media is effective and has a significant effect on increasing knowledge and attitudes in elderly people with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a critical stage requiring adequate nutrition for long-term health. Adolescent girls are particularly vulnerable to iron deficiency, which increases the risk of anemia and stunting. Enhancing adolescent girls' knowledge of nutrition through health education, which can be delivered using tools such as flipcharts, can prevent and address stunting. Method: This quasi-experimental study involved 541 adolescent girls aged 12–18 years, with a purposive sample of 91 participants divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received flip chart-based education, while the control group did not. The study was conducted in Kalurahan Triharjo and Pandowoharjo, Sleman, DI Yogyakarta. Data were collected using validated pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and analyzed with Wilcoxon and paired t-tests. Result: The intervention group showed significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes about nutrition. Knowledge scores increased from 14.42 ± 2.388 at pretest to 19.36 ± 0.883 at posttest (mean difference: 4.94, p = 0.001). Attitude scores rose from 59.04 ± 8.512 to 75.31 ± 2.410 (mean difference: 16.27, p = 0.001). In the control group, smaller increases were observed for both knowledge (mean difference: 0.73, p = 0.001) and attitudes (mean difference: 4.13, p = 0.036). Conclusion: Flip chart-based education effectively improves adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes about nutrition for stunting prevention. However, external exposure to nutrition information in the control group was a limitation. Future research should minimize such exposure by limiting information to basic content for control groups.
