Abstract

Strategies to Improve Health Literacy in Adolescents: A PRISMA-Based Literature Review  Health literacy in adolescents plays a crucial role in shaping long-term, sustainable healthy lifestyles. This article is a systematic review of various interventions to improve adolescent health literacy, following the PRISMA guidelines. A literature search was conducted through Google Scholar and PubMed databases for the period 2015–2025, yielding 962 articles, but only 9 met the inclusion criteria. The analysis showed that school-based, digital, and community-based interventions are effective in improving adolescents' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in accessing, understanding, and using health information appropriately. School-based programs are considered capable of reaching a broad group of adolescents, while digital interventions are considered more relevant to the characteristics of the technology-savvy younger generation. However, most studies are still limited to pre-post designs without a control group and use varying measurement instruments. These limitations hamper the generalizability of the findings, so further research with more robust experimental designs and standardized instruments is needed to generate more valid and reliable scientific evidence.

Abstract

Work fatigue is one of the significant occupational health issues as it can reduce productivity and increase the risk of workplace accidents. This study aims to analyze the relationship between noise intensity and work stress on work fatigue among workers in the wood sawmill industry. This quantitative study with a correlational design was conducted at UD Jati Widodo, Pati Regency, involving 38 respondents selected through total sampling. Noise levels were measured using a Sound Level Meter, work stress was assessed using a validated and reliable questionnaire, and work fatigue was measured using a Reaction Timer based on light stimulus. Analysis using the Spearman test showed a significant and positive correlation between work stress and work fatigue (p = 0.004; r = 0.462), while the relationship between noise and work fatigue was also significant but with a negative correlation (p = 0.016; r = -0.388). These findings indicate that work stress is a more dominant factor influencing fatigue than noise. Practically, the results of this study recommend the importance of work stress management as a preventive measure to reduce work fatigue among workers in the wood sawmill industry, such as through psychosocial counseling, job rotation, or stress coping training.

Abstract

Energy resilience is a critical requirement in disaster-prone regions, where electrical infrastructure is highly vulnerable to natural hazards and prolonged power outages. Portable and modular solar power systems have emerged as promising solutions for enhancing resilience by enabling decentralized, rapidly deployable, and grid-independent energy supply. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the role of portable and modular photovoltaic-based power systems in improving energy resilience from a power electronics perspective. The review synthesizes recent literature on resilience concepts, system architectures, and converter-based control strategies relevant to emergency energy applications. Particular emphasis is placed on DC-first and hybrid AC/DC architectures, modular converter topologies, battery management systems, and energy management strategies that support reliable and fault-tolerant operation under variable and uncertain conditions. Practical deployment and performance considerations, including scalability, robustness, monitoring, and usability in disaster environments, are also discussed. The findings indicate that well-designed portable and modular solar power systems can significantly reduce recovery time, improve operational continuity, and decrease reliance on centralized grids and fuel-based generators. This review identifies key technical challenges and research opportunities to guide future development of resilient power electronic-based energy systems for disaster response and recovery.

Abstract

Smartphone addiction is a global concern, especially in Indonesia. Many preteens use smartphones extensively, but university students are at risk due to their autonomy and reliance on them for academic and entertainment purposes. These variables prolong screen time, increasing smartphone addiction and a sedentary lifestyle. Smartphone addicts are 2.7 times more likely to be sedentary, and 90% of teens use them while sitting. About 50% of university public health students are sedentary. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and sedentary lifestyle among university students. This study is an analytical, observational, cross-sectional design. The population included students in the Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Public Health Study Program (2021–2024 cohorts). Purposive sampling selected 95 active, smartphone-using, and willing students to complete the online questionnaire. The Indonesian Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (SAS-SV) and Indonesian Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire examined smartphone addiction and sedentary lifestyle. Proofreading is shown in the Supplementary Materials for both translated, validated, and pilot-tested instruments. Spearman's Rho correlation test was used to analyze the data. Moderate smartphone addiction (64.21%) and sedentary lifestyle (42.11%) were common among students. Spearman's Rho correlation analysis demonstrated a modest, non-significant association between smartphone addiction and sedentary lifestyle (r = 0.090; p = 0.388; p > 0.05), indicating a very weak, non-significant relationship. Although smartphone addiction and sedentary lifestyle were not significantly related, moderate smartphone addiction remains concerning, suggesting interventions should also target environmental, social, and economic factors.

Abstract

This study investigates the mental and emotional challenges faced by first-year university students in Malaysia to identify key factors influencing their adjustment to university life. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 first- and second-year students selected through purposive sampling. Conducting this research in Malaysia is essential, as limited studies have examined how local students experience and manage the emotional and mental health challenges associated with the transition to university life. Thematic analysis revealed four key themes: i) declining mental health marked by heightened anxiety and depression; ii) fluctuating self-esteem due to academic pressures and newfound independence; iii) financial stress exacerbating emotional distress; and iv) the role of therapy and professional help in managing mental health concerns. The findings contribute to the growing discourse on student mental health by offering insights into the psychological and emotional dimensions of university transition. The study provides important implications for policy and institutional practice, underscoring the need for comprehensive, student-centered support systems such as structured mental health programs, peer mentoring, and financial literacy workshops. Addressing these factors can enhance students’ well-being, academic performance, and retention. Despite its rich qualitative insights, the small sample size and self-reported data highlight the need for future mixed-method and longitudinal research.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects children’s physical and cognitive growth. In Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting remains relatively high, although it has shown a declining trend. The contributing factors to stunting include parenting practices, nutritional intake, and food access. This community service program aims to improve the understanding of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young families about the importance of balanced nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and healthy complementary feeding (MP-ASI) as an effort to prevent stunting. Educational activities were conducted for 13 mothers of toddlers in Padukuhan Magirejo, using visual media, counseling sessions at the Posyandu, and leaflet distribution. Knowledge was measured through pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results indicated an increase in participants’ knowledge and commitment to better nutritional practices. Early intervention through this educational program is expected to contribute to reducing stunting cases.

Abstract

Interactive games are increasingly used in early childhood health education for their ability to merge learning with play. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of interactive games in improving health literacy and behaviors among children aged 4–12 years. A systematic search was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Of 312 records, 20 met inclusion criteria and were appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute tool. Studies, originating from the US, Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil, examined digital games (n=12), board games (n=5), and role-play simulations (n=3) targeting personal hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, and emotional health. Seventy-five percent reported significant improvements in knowledge, and 60% documented positive behavioral changes at short-term follow-up. Common benefits included increased engagement (85% of studies) and enhanced socio-emotional skills. Study quality was mostly moderate; few included follow-up beyond six months. Interactive games show strong potential to enhance children’s health education, but technological access and lack of long-term evaluation remain barriers. Future work should focus on high-quality, longitudinal studies and integration into school and community health programs.
