Abstract

Background: Stunting can occur due to several factors, one of which is not fulfilling the basic needs of toddlers (stimulation, love, and care). In addition to care pattern related to feeding, stimulation and love patterns to toddlers are sometimes not well noticed by parents. Good stimulation and love patterns will later reduce the risk of nutritional problems, including stunting. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the correlation between the pattern of stimulation and love given by mothers to children with the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the Mulyorejo village, Surabaya. Methods: This study used a cross sectional design with a sample of 72 children under five obtained by simple random sampling. Data retrieval comes from primary sources with interview methods using questionnaires and direct measurements. The data obtained were then analyzed using the Spearman correlation test Results: As a result, most of the stimulation and love patterns from mothers were in the good category and based on the analysis there was no significant relationship between the stimulation pattern (p=0.397) and love pattern (p=0.112) with the incidence of stunting. Conclusions: The stimulation and love patterns from mothers have no significant relationship with the incidence of stunting. Even thought, the role of parents, especially mothers, is expected to be able to provide basic needs related to a balanced pattern of stimulation and love in supporting the development and growth of children optimally.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is one of the main health problems in Indonesia which is associated with an increased risk of disease, mortality, and a suboptimal brain development. The prevalence of stunting in East Java is 33,6% (above the national prevalence).  Semampir District has a total of 1.399 stunting cases. Exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and maternal education can contribute to supporting child's health that can help prevent stunting.   Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between a history of exclusive breastfeeding, a history of complementary feeding and maternal education with stunting in children age 12-36 months in the working area of the Sidotopo Public Health Center Surabaya. Methods: This study was a cross sectional design with simple random sampling. The sample size were 78 children age 12-36 months in the Sidotopo Public Health Center working area. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data analysis using Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that there was no significant relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.121), complementary feeding (p=0.185) and maternal education (p=0.919) with stunting in children 12-36 months, but most stunted children had a history of non-exclusive breastfeeding (44.4%), came from mothers with low education levels (36.9%) and had a history of inappropriate complementary feeding (42.3%). Conclusions: There were many determinants of stunting in children, not only caused by exclusive breastfeeding, the pattern of complementary feeding, and maternal education, but also caused by factors such as birth weight, maternal nutritional status, birth length, hygiene and sanitation, and others.

Abstract

Background: Hemoglobin (Hb) is positioned lower than usual in the blood in the condition known as background anemia. Anemia can beget inadequate blood to bind and transport oxygen from the lungs throughout the body. Women suffer from anemia more frequently than men, especially pregnant women, youthful women and the poor. This is in agreement with the physiologica requirements of women who increase during  gestation and also the factor of bleeding through  period that occurs every month. Anemia can reduce individual work capacity. People who witness anemia generally frequently feel headaches and dizziness. The negative impact of anemia is that it can intrude with internal processes and reduce intelligence, bloodied impunity, and reduce the capacity to learn objectsObjectives: The purpose of this study was to dissect the relationship between nutritive knowledge and consumption patterns of iron sources with the prevalence of anemia in adolescents, especially youthful women. Methods: This research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional research design which was conducted on a sample of 50 female students from class X and XI at the Al-Mizan Muhammadiyah Lamongan Islamic Boarding School. Samples were selected by proportional random sampling method. Results:The outcome from the study showed that the level of nutritional knowledge of respondents is 50% in the less category. The pattern of consumption of Fe sources of respondents 64% never consumed Fe sources. There is a relationship between the level of nutritional knowledge (p=0.016) and consumption patterns of iron sources (p=0.036) with the incidence of anemia in female students. Conclusions: Teenage girls with a good level of nutritional knowledge and a level of consumption of iron sources that are in accordance with needs effect on reducing the risk of anemia. It is hoped that young women can increase their intake of foods that are sources of iron and increase their knowledge about which foods have a large amount of iron and which foods are iron inhibitors to prevent anemia.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a growth retardation as result of inadequate nutrition for a long time and recurrent infections during the first 1000 days of a child's life.  One of the direct factors causing stunting is inadequate food consumption for a long time. Food consumption in toddlers is still highly dependent on their parents, so that feeding practices greatly affect the toddlers' nutrition status. Objectives: The study aims to analyze the correlation between feeding practices with stunting in toddlers aged 6-60 months in the Puskesmas Plosoklaten, Kediri Regency. Methods: This study was an observational study with a cross sectional design. The number of samples in this study were 72 toddlers in the Puskesmas Plosoklaten, Kediri Regency. Data were collected by interviewing mothers and filling the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to determine the type of food served and a 2x24 hour food recall form to obtain data of portion and frequency of food consumption. Then the collected data was analyzed using the Spearman's rho test. Results: The results of this study showed that there was a correlation between feeding practices based on the suitability of food portion sizes and the incidence of stunting (p=0.013). However, no correlation was found between feeding practices based on a dietary diversity and meal frequency with the incidence of stunting (p=0.178 and p=0.381). Conclusions: There were more stunted toddlers in mothers who gave < 3 types of food with appropriate portions. Puskesmas needs to provide information regarding adequate food portions according to the age, so that adequate consumption is achieved and the nutritional needs can be met.

Abstract

Background: The increase of self-autonomy causes preschool age children have varied eating behavior. Eating difficulties in children can be a factor that affect the amount of food.intake and nutritionalistatus in preschool age children. Objectives: Analyzing the correlation.between.eating behavior and the nutritional status of preschool children. Methods: It was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The samples were 41 students, selected by simple random sampling technique. Data were collected by measuring anthropometrics, filling out the Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale (BPFAS) and Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). The data were analyzed using SPSS v.20.0 software with the Pearson correlation test. Results: There was no significant.correlation between.eating.behavior (Total Frequency Score) and children's nutritional status (p=0.069); eating behavior (Total Problem Score) with children's nutritional status (p=0.201). Conclusions: Eating behavior is not correlated to nutritional status because there are intervening variables that can affect the dependent variable. Even though children are categorized as having abnormal eating behavior, intake of energy sources can be obtained from other than solid food, especially milk so that children can meet their energy and protein needs and affect the z-score of their nutritional status.

Abstract

Background: The transition from face-to-face classes to online classes is part of the education sector's strategy to comply with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this affects the sleep quality and stress levels in students. As many as 70% of high school students in East Java have poor sleep quality and only 30% have good sleep quality. Stress in adolescents is aggravated by limited access to tourism places, shopping centers, places of worship, sports grounds, and also meeting peers which are places to release stress. Poor sleep quality and stress levels increase the risk of eating pattern. Research data shows that during the pandemic of COVID-19, adolescents's eating patterns were disrupted, such as frequent snacking and eating high-calorie foods. A good diet during a pandemic is not only to shape nutritional status in the future but more importantly to maintain and increase body immunity to avoid transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Objective: This study aims to describe the quality of sleep, stress levels, and eating patterns of adolescents in Kota Kediri during pandemic of COVID-19 and to analyze the relationship between sleep quality and stress levels with eating patterns of adolescents in Kota Kediri during pandemic of COVID-19. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional observational study. The variables of this study were sleep quality, stress levels, and eating patterns. The instruments used were a respondent's characteristics questionnaire (gender, age, school, and address), sleep quality questionnaire, PSS-10 questionnaire to assess stress levels, and SQ-FFQ form with frequency of meals a day to assess eating patterns. The research locations were selected based on simple random sampling, that are SMAN 1, 3, and 4 Kediri City. The total sample is 101 students and divided based on proportional random sampling. Results: The results showed that 55 students (54.5%) had poor sleep quality, 46 students (45.5%) were classified having a mild level of stress, and 71 students (70.4%) had an adequate diet during pandemic of COVID-19. The results of the relationship test showed that there is a relationship between sleep quality and adequate eating patterns (p value = 0.007), and there is also a relationship between stress levels and the respondent's eating pattern (p value = 0.020). Conclusions: Poor sleep quality and mild stress levels have a relationship with adequate eating patterns in adolescents in the city of Kediri during pandemic of COVID-19.

Abstract

The ability of students to be able to think to a higher level (Higher Order Thinking Skills / HOTS) is very necessary in learning in this era. Educators are required to be able to develop test questions or assessment items that can trigger students to have the ability to think at a higher level. The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation instrument in the form of multiple choice question based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), test the feasibility level of HOTS based multiple choice evaluation instruments that have been develop, analyze student HOTS and analyze student responses to the use of multiple choice evaluation instruments. The method used in this research is the development research method or commonly referred to as Research & Development with a development model developed by Dick. W., Carey L., and Carey J.O by going through the stages of ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Evaluation). Five stages that are very useful in the development step. The subjects in this study were 30 students of grade V SD Negeri Kepanjen 2 Jombang. The results of product validation development from three expert validators obtained an average validation value of 86.64% (very valid). As for the results of the development, showing that of the 20 questions developed, 16 questions are feasible based on the calculation of r calculate > r table, which is 0,3061.The reliability of the questions is 1.00 > 0.737 so that it gets a reliable predicate. The difficulty level of the question has an average score of 0.6215 which means "medium". With a composition of 1 very difficult question, 1 difficult question, 8 medium questions, 7 easy questions and 3 very easy questions. The results showed positive values which showed that the number of students in the upper group answered more correctly on the questions given, and the number of students in the lower group answered more incorrectly on the questions given. Trials on this study showed "moderate" results on his higher-order thinking skills. Student responses have an average value of 7.72%, which means that they get a positive response in the use of HOTS-based multiple-choice question development instruments when applying these instruments. So it can be concluded that the evaluation instrument developed is suitable for use in learning.

Abstract

Work fatigue is a problem that often occurs in female workers. The higher risk of fatigue among female workers is caused by several factors including nutritional status, energy adequacy level, and sleep duration. Central obesity status is associated with a decrease in the maximal oxygen capacity (VO2 max) that triggers work fatigue. Sleep is related to the recovery time of the body's vital organs, while energy is needed for various body metabolisms. This research was aimed to analyze the relationship between central obesity, energy adequacy, and sleep duration with work fatigue in female workers at PT Galaxy Surya Panelindo. This study used a cross-sectional research design with a sample of 50 female production workers at PT Galaxy Surya Panelindo. The sampling technique used random sampling method. Data was collected by measuring waist circumference and hip circumference, Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ), Subjective Self Rating Test (SRRT), and sleep duration. There was no relationship between sleep duration and work fatigue (p=0.951). However there was a relationship between central obesity status (p=0.001), energy adequacy level (p=<0.001) and work-nutrition fatigue. The nutritional status of central obesity and inadequate energy fulfillment, both excess or deficiency when compared to needs, can increase work fatigue. Therefore, the prevention of work fatigue can be done by implementing a healthy lifestyle and eating a balanced diet as needed.
