Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive learning medium based on fundamental basketball techniques and to evaluate its effectiveness in enhancing students' active participation in physical education at the junior high school level. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, modifying the Borg and Gall model into nine systematic development stages, including needs analysis, design, validation, and field testing. The research subjects consisted of 30 seventh-grade students for the limited trial and 60 students for the field trial. Validation by subject matter and media experts yielded an average score of 87%, indicating that the media is highly feasible. The limited trial results showed increased student participation across three learning domains: affective (72%), cognitive (68%), and psychomotor (70%). The subsequent field trial confirmed these findings, with an average active participation score of 81%, categorized as excellent. Additionally, quantitative data from questionnaires indicated positive responses from both students and teachers, with an average score of 85%, while qualitative data from observations and interviews revealed that the media significantly improved student motivation, engagement, and conceptual understanding. The results conclude that the developed interactive learning media is content-valid, practical for implementation, and effective in enhancing students’ active participation. These findings offer empirical contributions to the development of innovative, contextual, and applicable learning media in physical education and support the reinforcement of active participation-based pedagogy at the basic education level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of physical education learning modifications based on badminton games on improving students' motor skills at SMA Negeri 2 Makassar. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 60 grade X students who were divided into two groups, namely the experimental group (n = 30) and the control group (n = 30). The research instruments included motor skill tests such as coordination, agility, balance, and muscle strength. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis showed an increase in the average motor skill score in the experimental group from 65.4 (pretest) to 78.6 (posttest), while the control group increased from 64.9 to 69.3. The independent t-test on the posttest produced a significance value of p <0.01, indicating a significant difference between groups. In addition, the paired t-test showed a significant increase in the experimental group (p <0.001), while the increase in the control group was not statistically significant (p = 0.067). These findings prove that badminton game-based learning modification is more effective than conventional methods in improving students' motor skills. The practical implications of these results indicate the need for the implementation of innovative and enjoyable learning strategies in the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the game-based training approach in improving the underhand passing ability of adolescent volleyball athletes at the Syekh Yusuf Gowa Club. The method used is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design and a control and experimental group. The sample consisted of 20 athletes who were divided by purposive sampling into two groups, each consisting of 10 people. The experimental group underwent training with a game-based approach for 8 weeks, 3 times a week, while the control group used conventional training methods. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an average increase in underhand passing scores of 14.2 points, while the control group only increased by 5.2 points. The Paired Sample t-Test showed a significant increase in both groups (p <0.05), but the increase in the experimental group was significantly greater than the control group based on the Independent Sample t-Test (p <0.05). The normality and homogeneity tests of the data showed that the assumptions were met so that the statistical analysis was valid. This study concludes that the game-based training approach is effective in improving underhand passing skills in adolescent volleyball athletes and is recommended for use in athlete development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of direct training and rope media training on students’ underhand passing skills in volleyball at State Vocational School 3 Makassar. The quasi-experimental method was used with a pre-test and post-test design. A total of 30 students were selected through purposive sampling and divided equally into two groups: the direct training group (n = 15) and the rope media training group (n = 15). Each group underwent a six-week intervention, with training conducted three times per week. Data were collected through underhand passing skill tests conducted before and after the training period. The mean pre-test score for the direct training group was 62.4, and the post-test score increased to 75.8, indicating a gain of 13.4 points. Meanwhile, the rope media group showed a pre-test mean of 61.7, which increased to 78.6 in the post-test, with a total improvement of 16.9 points. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-tests showed that both training methods significantly improved the students' underhand passing skills (p < 0.05). Furthermore, independent sample t-test results revealed that rope media training was significantly more effective than direct training (p < 0.05). In conclusion, both training methods positively impact volleyball underhand passing skills, but rope media training offers a more substantial improvement. These findings suggest that incorporating media such as ropes can enhance learning outcomes in physical education.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the Inquiry Learning Model on the ability of basic passing techniques in futsal among students of State Senior High School 5 Makassar. Using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, two classes were purposively selected: the experimental group received instruction through the Inquiry Learning Model, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Both groups consisted of 30 students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest skill tests assessing passing accuracy, strength, and speed. The normality and homogeneity tests confirmed data suitability for parametric analysis. The post-test results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (mean = 85.3, SD = 4.7) compared to the control group (mean = 75.6, SD = 5.2), supported by the independent t-test (t(58) = 6.12, p < 0.001). The gain score analysis further demonstrated that the experimental group’s average gain (20.5 points) was significantly higher than that of the control group (10.3 points), indicating the effectiveness of the Inquiry Learning Model in enhancing futsal passing skills. These findings highlight the benefits of active, student-centred learning models in physical education to improve motor skill acquisition and performance. The study recommends integrating inquiry-based learning strategies in sports education to foster better technical competence and engagement. Further research is encouraged to examine the model’s impact on other sport-specific skills and broader student populations.

Abstract

This literature review examines current trends, methodologies, and outcomes in teaching basic badminton skills within school physical education (PE) programs. A systematic review process following the PRISMA guidelines identified 187 studies, with 20 peer-reviewed articles meeting the inclusion criteria for final analysis. The review highlights a growing shift from traditional direct instruction toward innovative pedagogical models such as Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU), Sports Education, and hybrid approaches. For example, a study by Gil-Arias et al. (2018) revealed that TGfU increased students’ decision-making and gameplay performance by 32% compared to control groups. Similarly, Chen et al. (2020) demonstrated that integrating game-based learning improved serve accuracy by 27% among junior high students. Technology-enhanced instruction also emerged as a critical factor, with Lin et al. (2021) reporting that wearable motion sensors contributed to a 23% increase in double coordination among participants. Peer-assisted learning and cooperative strategies were shown to enhance skill acquisition, motivation, and self-efficacy (Huang & Tongdecharoen, 2024). The studies also emphasize the importance of assessment tools tailored to badminton, as noted by Williyanto et al. (2018), who developed a reliable and valid rubric for measuring fundamental skills. Despite these positive outcomes, barriers such as inadequate facilities, large class sizes, and limited teacher training continue to hinder effective implementation. The findings suggest the need for comprehensive teacher development programs and curriculum alignment to support the application of contemporary instructional models.
