Abstract

Background: The work of splitting and sorting areca nuts is done manually with repetitive movements for a long duration. Inappropriate work postures that are not ergonomic and repetitive movements for a long time are one of the risk factors that can trigger Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Purpose: This study aims to identify factors that contribute to the emergence of CTS complaints in areca nut splitting and sorting workers at CV. Indokara in 2024. Research methods: This study used an analytical observational design with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional plan. All workers in the areca nut splitting and sorting section at CV. Indokara became the study population, with a sample size of 38 people obtained through the total sampling technique. Results and discussion: The prevalence rate of CTS complaints found in workers at CV. Indokaraa reached 55.3%. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a relationship between age (p = 0.031), length of service (p = 0.011), work posture (p = 0.031) and repetitive movements (p = 0.029) with CTS complaints. However, there was no correlation between nutritional status (p = 1,000) and CTS complaints. Conclusion: Age, length of service, work posture, and repetitive movements are related to CTS complaints in areca nut splitting and sorting workers at CV. Indokara in 2024. Therefore, workers are advised to use their break time to stretch their hands regularly. In addition, a policy regarding routine exercise once a week can be implemented and create a posture regarding stretching movements that need to be done by workers.

Abstract

Rubber farmers of the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) are among the informal sector workers at risk of work accidents. This is due to the characteristics of the SAD community, which predispose them to such accidents. The aim of this study is to identify factors associated with work accidents among SAD rubber farmers in Bukit Suban Village, Sarolangun Regency. This research adopts a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population comprises heads of households engaged in rubber farming in Bukit Suban Village, Sarolangun Regency, totaling 81 individuals. Data analysis employs the chi-square statistical test. The research findings indicate a prevalence of work accidents among rubber farmers at 55.6%. The results demonstrate significant relationships between age, years of service, safe behavior, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and soil conditions with work accidents (p-value <0.05), while occupational safety training (K3) and equipment location show no correlation with work accidents among SAD rubber farmers. Dominant factors contributing to work accidents include age, soil conditions, and safe behavior. Multivariate analysis reveals that age is the most dominant factor associated with work accidents (p-value 0.000, PR=17.076, 95% CI = 4.503-64.757). It is recommended that local government agencies provide support in enhancing work safety and offer assistance in the form of PPE to improve understanding and knowledge of work safety, thereby reducing work accidents among SAD rubber farmers

Abstract

K3 promotion through safety talk program aims to convey the message of occupational safety and health (OSH) in the workplace. As written in PP No. 50 of 2012 related to the implementation of SMK3, K3 communication through the safety talk program is one of the supporting components of work accident prevention efforts. Method of the research was conducted qualitatively using an in-depth interview and observation approach. There were 8 research informants consisting of 3 key informants, namely the management and 5 main informants, namely operators at each PKS Bunut processing station, PTPN VI Jambi. The results showed that the implementation of safety talk at PKS Bunut has been carried out quite well and the majority of employees already know the purpose of implementing safety talk. This is supported by the successful implementation of safety talk which is marked by a decrease in the number of work accidents in recent years. However, in its implementation, there are obstacles in how to communicate between leadership employees and implementing employees, as well as employee awareness and concern which are challenges in implementing safety talk at PKS Bunut. The implementation of safety talk at PKS Bunut has been carried out regularly and well. In the implementation process, there are several things that must be improved from the side of employees, leaders and implementing employees so that existing obstacles and challenges can be overcome and the successful implementation of safety talk can be achieved as an effort to prevent work accidents at PKS Bunut. Abstract

Irritant contact dermatitis is a skin disease that often occurs in rubber company workers due to contact with irritant materials. Irritant materials in the work environment can damage the skin, cause inflammation, and cause irritation. If not treated immediately, this condition can interfere with comfort and reduce work efficiency. This study aims to determine the factors associated with complaints of irritant contact dermatitis in production and laboratory workers at PT. X. This study uses a quantitative approach with an observational cross-sectional design. The study population was 64 workers, with 38 people as samples taken using a purposive sampling technique. The variables studied included the dependent variable (complaints of irritant contact dermatitis) and independent variables (length of service, exposure to chemicals, duration of exposure, personal hygiene, and use of PPE). Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square statistical test with a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that complaints of irritant contact dermatitis with moderate and severe categories were 44.7%, and the mild category was 55.3%. There was a significant relationship between length of work (p=0.031), length of exposure (p=0.032), personal hygiene (p=0.011), and use of PPE (p=0.024) with complaints of irritant contact dermatitis.
