Abstract

Work accidents are unexpected and unwanted events that can harm employees and companies. The production department has the highest risk of work accidents because it deals directly with machines and heavy equipment. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work accidents in the production section of PT Cassia Co-Op, Sungai Penuh City. This type of research was analytic and observational, using a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique was total sampling, with a total sample of workers. The researchers used questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test. There was a significant relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0,001) and attitudes (p-value = 0,029) with work accidents, and there was no significant relationship between the use of PPE and work accidents (p-value 0.156).  Workplace agencies, such as PT Cassia Co-op, will likely employ K3 training to disrupt the causative chain of workplace accidents, which include harmful conditions, human errors, and unsafe acts.   Thus, accidents and damage can be avoided.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a common phenomenon and a frequent complaint among office workers. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.7 billion people worldwide suffer from musculoskeletal disorders, with 17.3 million of them experiencing Low Back Pain (LBP). Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the factors associated with Low Back Pain (LBP) among employees of the Jambi City Health Office. This research used a cross-sectional design with a chi-square test. A total of 99 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The variables examined included age, length of employment, physical activity (exercise), and work posture. The results showed significant associations between age (p = 0.003), physical activity (exercise) (p = 0.001), and work posture (p = 0.022) with complaints of Low Back Pain (LBP), while no significant association was found between length of employment (p = 0.546) and complaints of Low Back Pain (LBP). Age was found to have the greatest influence on complaints of Low Back Pain (LBP) (PR = 1.519), indicating that employees aged ≥ 35 years are 1.519 times more likely to experience Low Back Pain (LBP) compared to those under 35 years old

Abstract

Background: Coal worker’s pneumoconiosis (CWP) is a parenchymal lung disease caused by inhalation of dust from coal mines. In global, the prevalence of CWP was 18.8% in 2013, while in Indonesia the data was still scarce, despite having many coal mines. This was still be most important occupational disease issue in Indonesia. This study aims to obtain an overview of the risk factors for CWP including dust, length of exposure, susceptibility, and smoke through a systematic review. Method: Search articles using four databases namely Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed, and ScienceDirect using the PRISMA method using keywords “coal worker’s pneumoconiosis” or “black lung” and “dust” and “long exposure” and “susceptibility” and “smoking. 14 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected from 1,195 articles in the initial. Results: A review of articles showed that the factor of dust, length of exposure, and individual susceptibility proved to be risk factors that influence and develop CWP, while smoking was not associated with the incidence of CWP, but could interfere with lung function. Conclusion: It is recommended that coal mining workers always use personal protective equipment (PPE), especially respiratory protective equipment, maintain body stamina with adequate nutritional intake and rest, regular health checks, and do not smoke.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is crucial for creating safe and healthy working environments. Firefighters face significant risks in their line of duty. This research aims to identify the factors influencing work safety behavior among firefighters in Jambi City. This study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Research informants included firefighters with various roles and levels, encompassing field officers, OSH personnel, and the division head. The research examines the influence of human factors (knowledge), work environment factors (personal protective equipment/PPE, training, the role of OSH, and reward systems), and OSH indicators on work safety behavior. The findings indicate that the OSH knowledge of firefighters in Jambi City is considered adequate, with alignment between established OSH standards and the officers' perceptions. PPE is acknowledged as important, but budgetary constraints affect the availability of more specific PPE. OSH training is deemed essential for enhancing officers' knowledge and awareness. The role of OSH within the organization is seen as important for creating a safe work environment, although there are expectations for improved understanding and implementation of OSH in the field. The reward system is perceived as inconsistent. OSH indicators, such as regulations and SOPs, are considered effective guidelines for task execution. Work safety behavior among firefighters in Jambi City is influenced by a complex interplay of human factors, work environment factors, and the OSH system. Adequate OSH knowledge and effective implementation of OSH indicators form a critical foundation. However, improvements in areas such as PPE provision, consistency of the reward system, and enhanced understanding and comprehensive implementation of OSH are necessary to strengthen the safety culture and reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
