Abstract

The research was found on the topic about  Language Maintenance of Hata Simalungun among Young Generations with Reference to the Global Context. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from the conversations of male and female young generations who live in Kariahan, Kabupaten Simalungun. The technique for analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative research based on Miles, Huberman and Saldana. The result of this research was factors of Hata Simalungun maintenance of young generations in Kariahan Kabupaten Simalungun are Seeing Each Other Frequently, Neighborhood Domain, Ethno Linguistic Vitality and Family Domain (100%), Practice Traditional Ceremony (90%) and Religion Domain (80%). The Ways of Young Generations in maintaining HS are Acquisition the Language (100%), Socially Integrated Population of Active Speakers (80%) and Localities of People Habitually Using the Language (80%). The Reasons of Young Generations Maintain HS are Identity (100%), Prestige or Pride (100%) and Keeping the Language (100%).Keywords: Language Maintenance, Young Generations

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims at improving students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph by using Movie Posters. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class X SMA Negeri I Galang, which consist of 36 students. The research was conducted in two cycles which cycle I and cycle II consist of 3 meetings. The instruments for collecting data were qualitative (interview, diary notes, and observation sheet) and quantitative data(writing test). Based on the data analysis, the mean of students’ score in Test I was 56,38 ; for the Test II was 68,05 , and for the Test III was 85. The qualitative data showed that the students were interested by using Movie Posters. The conclusion is that by using Movie Posters improves the students’ achievement in writing descriptive. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the many types of translation methods, how they were employed in the translation of the folklores "Deli Malay" and "Serdang Malay" from Indonesian to English, and why the translators used the prevailing types in these folklores. The descriptive qualitative method was used to perform this research. The data was gathered from a folklore book and an interview with the folklores' translator. Descriptive qualitative research is the method used to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that literal translation accounted for 39 sentences (16%), faithful translation accounted for 23 sentences (9%), semantic translation accounted for four sentences (2%), adaptation translation accounted for seven sentences (3%), free translation accounted for 158 sentences (64%) and communicative translation accounted for 16 sentences (6%). A total of 247 sentences were extracted from the data. Because he did not follow any theories or methods of translation when translating the texts, the translator utilized free translation as the dominating method. Instead, he evaluated the translations' target audience, youngsters, and made them acceptable and simple to understand.

Abstract

Abstrak.Pembelajaran aktif (active learning) adalah salah satu ciri utama yang dikehendaki oleh kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan penerapan Pengajaran Reflektif dalam pengimplementasian pendekatan Scientific Approach bagi guru Bahasa Inggris di MAN Medan. Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 (MAN 1)  dan Madrasah Tsaniyah Negeri 2 (MTsN 2) Medan merupakan sekolah negeri yang berlokasi di Jl. Williem Iskandar No. 7 B, Kota Medan, Sumatera Utara. Sekolah ini juga termasuk sekolah yang aktif mengikuti berbagai kegiatan baik yang diselenggarakan oleh pihak pemerintah maupun lembaga lainnya. Namun, pada kenyatannya tidak semua siswa mampu melatih dirinya untuk berpikir kritis tanpa ada peran seorang guru yang terus berinovasi untuk mewujudkan suatu pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan tuntutan perubahan zaman. Penerapan Pengajaran Reflektif merupakan cara yang efektif dalam melatih siswa untuk terus berpikir kritis yang tentunya akan menjadi siswa yang aktif dan kreatif. Adapun target luaran yang akan dicapai adalah Publikasi ilmiah pada Jurnal ber ISSN/Prosiding jurnal Nasional; buku referensi/modul Pembelajaran Reflektif dalam pendekatan Scientific Approach; serta publikasi pada media masa cetak. Metode pelaksanaan yang dilakukan adalah model pelatihan penerapan Pengajaran Reflektif dalam pengimplementasian pendekatan Scientific Approach. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pembinaan ini dilakukan dengan empat tahapan yaitu 1) sosialisasi konsep dasar reflective teaching, 2) pelatihan reflective teaching dengan media power point, 3) tahapan pembimbingan reflective teaching, 4) tahap laporan draft buku tentang reflective. Pembinaan kemampuan reflective teaching para guru bahasa inggris yang dilakukan di sekolah mitra yaitu MAN 1 Medan dan MTSN 2 Medan sejauh ini telah dilaksanakan dengan baik dan diterima baik pula oleh sekolah mitra. Kata Kunci: Pengajaran Reflektif, Scientific Approach, Guru, MAN Abstract. Active learning is one of the main characteristics desired by the 2013 curriculum. This study aims to provide training on the application of Reflective Teaching in implementing the Scientific Approach approach for English teachers in MAN Medan. Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 (MAN 1) and Madrasah Tsaniyah Negeri 2 (MTsN 2) Medan are public schools located on Jl. Williem Iskandar No. 7 B, Medan City, North Sumatra. This school is also a school that actively participates in various activities both organized by the government and other institutions. However, in reality not all students are able to train themselves to think critically without the role of a teacher who continues to innovate to create learning that is in accordance with the demands of changing times. The application of Reflective Teaching is an effective way of training students to continue to think critically, which of course will become active and creative students. The output targets to be achieved are scientific publications in ISSN journals / National journal Proceedings; reference books / Reflective Learning modules in the Scientific Approach approach; as well as publications in the print media. The implementation method used is a training model for the application of Reflective Teaching in implementing the Scientific Approach approach. The implementation of this coaching activity is carried out in four stages, namely 1) socialization of the basic concepts of reflective teaching, 2) reflective teaching training using power point media, 3) reflective teaching guidance stages, 4) stage report draft book on reflective The development of reflective teaching skills for English teachers carried out in partner schools, namely MAN 1 Medan and MTSN 2 Medan, has so far been well implemented and well received by partner schools.Keywords: Reflective Teaching, Scientific Approach, Teacher, MAN

Adapun masalah yang dihadapi guru, yaitu waktu mengajar yang kurang memadai, guru tidak bisa memantau semua siswa, siswa tidak memiliki banyak kosakata dan siswa kurang dalam pengucapan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan penerapan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre dalam keterampilan mengajar menulis di Swasta Mulia Medan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan keterampilan pengajaran menulis di Swasta Mulia Medan dengan menggunakan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre.Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif sebagai desain penelitian. Tujuan penelitian deskriptif adalah untuk membuat deskripsi tentang fenomena faktual dalam pengajaran untuk mendapatkan informasi. Peneliti menjelaskan implementasi Pendekatan Berbasis Genre dalam mengajar keterampilan membaca. Metode pengumpulan data adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan reduksi data, menampilkan data, menarik kesimpulan. Penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode triangulasi yaitu observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara.Kata Kunci: Pendekatan Berbasis Genre, Menulis, Teks Deskripsi

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the differences between the classroom management performed by the senior and yunior teachers in teaching English at senior High School in Medan. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The respondents of the research were 28 English teachers of Yunior and Senior High School in Medan. Questionnaire and Observation sheet were used to collect the data on the teachers classroom management. The result of the study shows that senior English teachers perform more aspects of Classroom management. They perform 18 point from 20 points aspect.. Junior English teacher get 17 point. Although senior teachers perfom only show slightly more aspect of classromm management but for the quality of classroom management they perform better due to the longer experience of teaching. For junior English teacher they perform more enthusiastics energy, although it is clear that they have to study more on the behavior and attitude expected in the classrooms.

Abstract

There were many studies discussed on the product of translation. Meanwhile, few researcher lazy to watch the process of translation. This paper, therefore, investigated a study on the processes when a translator performed the translation. The cognitive process played an important role in it. The aims of the study are to describe the think aloud protocols as one of the assessment to explore the translation behaviours or strategies in translation and to analyze cognitive processes that occur in the mind of postgraduate students when they did the translation. This research is also necessary to know the difficulties faced by the students when conducting the process of it. The study that involved fifteen participants, resulted to some difficulties, namely in translating lingual word unit, lingual phrase unit, and lingual clause unit. The overcome strategies were refers to a dictionary, knowledge of the subject (guessing), and the attention of local context and content. It is suggested that, although the think-aloud assessment has limitations, but it is an appropriate instrument for looking into the mental process of a translator.

Abstract

The study was conducted to establish listening media for Grade VII of Junior High School Students. Research and Development (R&D) was conducted in the study. Listening media was designed through six stages namely. (1) Gathering information and data; (2) analyzing data; (3) designing materials; (4) validating by experts; (5) revising; and (6) final product. The data were collected by conducting interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to one class of grade VII consisting of 30 students to get the students’ needs in improving listening skill. The interview and questionnaire results showed that the students needed English Listening Media which could motivate and encourage the students to speak actively in English since both listening and speaking are integrated each other. The authority had assessed the media produced. The outcome of the research was an E-learning media named Moodle Cloud. The rate of assessment of the product was 93.55%. Therefore all the features were categorized as a relevant and effective media in improving students’ listening skill.
