Abstract

Critical thinking skills and learning motivation exist in every student, but each individual possesses them at different levels. The aim of this study is to examine the correlation between the application of problem-based learning in science lessons—specifically on the topics of vibration, waves, and sound—and students' critical thinking skills and learning motivation. This research employed a one-shot case study design, which is a type of pre-experimental research. The sample consisted of 35 eighth-grade students from class VIII G at MTsN 1 Kota Serang. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and data were collected using tests. The result of the study indicate that: (1) based on the assessment of four aspects of students’ critical thinking skills, 27 students were categorized as very high and 8 students as high; (2) based on six aspects of learning motivation, 1 student was categorized as moderate, 22 students as high, and 12 students as very high; (3) the correlation between critical thinking skills and learning motivation through the ethnoscience-integrated problem-based learning model was 70.1%, with the calculated r-value exceeding the table r-value at a significance level of 0.05.The conclusion of this study is that students’ learning motivation and critical thinking skills through ethnoscience-integrated problem-based learning are strongly correlated.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify students’ conception of simple harmonic motion by implemen-ting SiPOERT (Simulation in Predict Observe Explain with Refutational Text). The research method used is mixed methods with an embedded mixed methods research design. The research instrument used consis-ted of diagnostic test questions in the format of four-tier Simple Harmonic Motion, Refutational Texts Student Worksheets, and learning implementation observation sheets. The sample in this study consisted of 32 students in XI class in one of the public high schools in Central Java. The analysis of this study uses delta M, the implementation of learning is shown in the form of a percentage, and the change in conception is analyzed based on the results of the pre-test and post-test. The results showed that students' misconcep-tions decreased by 16.4% from the pretest of 65.9% to 49.5% in the post-test. There was a change in the level of conception, by 42% in the Accepted Change (AC) category, 41% in the Not Change (NC) category, and 17% in the Unaccepted Change (UC) category.

Abstract

This study reports the development and empirical evaluation of a culturally responsive flipbook e-module for teaching quantities and units in Indonesian senior secondary physics. Developed using the ADDIE framework and grounded in Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), the module integrates local measurement systems, mud, tala, lot, and deben, as epistemic resources for scientific reasoning. A quasi-experimental field trial involved 117 Grade 10 students across three intact classes: two experimental groups (digital: n = 41; print: n = 40) and one control group (conventional worksheets: n = 36). Expert validation confirmed strong content validity (Aiken’s V = 0.87), particularly in cultural authenticity and alignment with critical thinking constructs. Student surveys indicated high practicality (89.55%) and positive perceptions (85.75%), with learners highlighting how culturally familiar contexts, such as zakat unit analysis or land measurement using lots, enhanced relevance and cognitive engagement. To evaluate learning impact, a pretest–posttest design was implemented, with critical thinking measured via a validated open-response instrument. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), controlling for pretest scores, revealed a statistically significant effect of instructional modality on posttest performance, F(2, 113) = 58.34, p < 0.001, with a large effect size (partial η² = 0.513). Adjusted means showed that the experimental groups significantly outperformed the control group (Madj = 79.14 (digital); Madj = 80.72 (print); Madj = 42.13 (control); p < 0.001), while there was no meaningful difference between the delivery modes (p = 0.682). These findings suggest that the CRT-based design, rather than the medium, influences learning outcomes, supporting scalable implementation across diverse infrastructural contexts. When cultural knowledge is structurally integrated into disciplinary reasoning, students engage more deeply, affirming the module’s potential as an equitable, contextually relevant tool for improving rigorous science education. Keywords: critical thinking skills, e-module, culturally responsive teaching.

Abstract

Suasana belajar di beberapa ruang perkuliahan FMIPA UNNES yang dekat dengan jalan raya terasa tidak nyaman dan bising karena kegiatan lalu lintas yang padat. Sementara itu, data tentang tingkat kebisingan yang terjadi di lingkungan ruang perkuliahan FMIPA tidak tersedia, sehingga perlu dilakukan pengukuran terhadap intensitas suara yang terjadi dan yang berpotensi menimbulkan kebisingan atau ketidaknyamanan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melakukan pengukuran dan analisis kebisingan di beberapa ruang kuliah di FMIPA UNNES sebagai antisipasi terhadap polusi suara yang terjadi. Penelitian dilakukan di 2 lokasi, yaitu jalan raya Sekaran, sekitar Kampus FMIPA dan Gedung D1 - D4 FMIPA UNNES. Pengukuran dilakukan selama 3 hari dengan rentang waktu 21 jam, sedangkan untuk gedung perkuliahan, yaitu di D1, D2, D3 dan D4, pengukuran dilakukan selama 3 hari dalam rantang waktu 10 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk jalan raya Sekaran tingkat kebisingannya rata – rata 71,38 dBA sedangkan untuk tingkat kebisingan Gedung D1 ruang D1-107 sebesar 51,08 dBA, dan ruang D1-207 sebesar 63,11 dBA, untuk Gedung D2, ruang D2-115 sebesar 73,75 dBA dan ruang D2-215 sebesar 60,21 dBA, untuk Gedung D3, ruang 119 sebesar 59,97 dBA dan ruang D3-219 sebesar 47,02 dBA, untuk Gedung D4, ruang D4-125 sebesar 37,17 dBA dan ruang D4-225 sebesar 47,80 dBA. Dari data tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat kebisingan di gedung D1, D2 dan D3, melebihi ketentuan yang berlaku (baku mutu kebisingan) yang ditetapkan pemerintah sebesar 55 dBA.
