Abstract

Character education plays a crucial role in shaping students’ personalities as future leaders. However, in practice, a gap still exists between the understanding of character values and their implementation in everyday behavior. This study aims to describe the character profile of third-semester students at University X based on six character pillars—trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship—viewed from the aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and actions. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 70 students from seven faculties. Data were collected using a Situational Judgment Test (SJT) that measured the knowledge, attitude, and action dimensions of each character pillar and were analyzed manually by classifying scores into low, moderate, and high categories. The results indicate that students’ character across the six pillars is categorized as high in the knowledge and attitude aspects, but moderate in the action aspect. These findings suggest that although students have a strong understanding of character values, their application in real-life actions still needs to be strengthened through learning processes and role modeling within the university environment.

Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential aspect of adolescent development; however, most students at SMA Negeri 18 Medan are still categorized as having a moderate level of self-confidence. Classical guidance services can help enhance students’ self-confidence, yet conventional media are often perceived as less engaging by students. Therefore, this study employed the “Self Dev” podcast as an alternative medium that is interactive and easily accessible. The aims of this study were to describe students’ self-confidence and to examine the effect of classical guidance services using podcast media on students’ self-confidence. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a Control Group with Active Intervention. The research population consisted of 175 students, while the sample was selected using purposive sampling, involving 70 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instrument was a self-confidence questionnaire covering four aspects: belief in one’s own abilities, courage in facing challenges, self-acceptance, and feelings of being worthy of appreciation, adapted from Alkhaldi et al. (2021). Of the 50 questionnaire items, 39 were declared valid; after a re-validation process, 30 items were retained with high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.896). The prerequisite analysis indicated that the data were normally distributed and had homogeneous variances. The results of the independent samples t-test showed a significant increase in self-confidence in the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.048; mean difference = 2.342). Thus, it can be concluded that classical guidance using the Self Dev podcast by Andreas Bordes is effective in improving students’ self-confidence.

Abstract

Bullying remains a significant challenge in inclusive education, particularly for students with visual impairments who are more vulnerable to discrimination, social exclusion, and peer victimization. School counselors play a critical role in creating safe and supportive learning environments; however, their involvement in preventing bullying against visually impaired students has received limited scholarly attention. This study aimed to analyze the role of school counselors in preventing bullying against visually impaired students in an inclusive school setting at SMAN 2 Lubuk Pakam, Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of counseling practices and bullying prevention efforts. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis involving a school counselor, school administrators, visually impaired students, and regular students. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that school counselors performed several important roles, including providing emotional support, facilitating social interaction, and mediating conflicts involving visually impaired students. These interventions contributed to students’ psychological well-being and social adjustment. However, bullying prevention efforts remained largely reactive, as counseling services were primarily implemented after incidents occurred rather than through structured preventive programs. The study also identified the absence of systematic disability-awareness initiatives, peer-support programs, and empowerment-based interventions designed to strengthen students’ resilience and self-advocacy skills. The findings highlight the need for more comprehensive and sustainable bullying prevention strategies within inclusive schools. Strengthening school counselors’ preventive roles through anti-bullying programs, disability awareness education, and collaborative support systems is essential for fostering inclusive, safe, and equitable educational environments for students with visual impairments.

Abstract

The increasing cultural diversity within educational settings requires students to develop effective multicultural adaptation skills in order to interact harmoniously with individuals from different backgrounds. However, many adolescents continue to experience difficulties in accepting diversity, building intercultural relationships, and adjusting to multicultural environments. This study aimed to improve students’ multicultural adaptation abilities through classical guidance services. The study employed a Guidance and Counseling Action Research design using a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach implemented in two cycles. The participants consisted of 38 seventh-grade students from SMP Wage Rudolf Supratman 2 during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through multicultural adaptation questionnaires, structured observations, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and paired-samples t-tests, while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, categorization, and interpretation. The findings revealed a consistent improvement in students’ multicultural adaptation abilities across the intervention cycles. The mean score increased from 84.03 (55%) in the pre-cycle stage to 112.10 (74%) in Cycle I and further increased to 136.20 (90%) in Cycle II. Improvements were observed across all dimensions of multicultural adaptation, including adaptation to cultural diversity, building mutual trust, understanding others’ perspectives, and creating harmonious interactions. The results of the paired-samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between students’ adaptation levels before and after the intervention (p < .001). Qualitative findings further demonstrated positive behavioral changes, including greater openness, increased respect for diversity, stronger interpersonal trust, and more inclusive social interactions. In conclusion, classical guidance services were found to be effective in enhancing students’ multicultural adaptation abilities. The findings highlight the importance of integrating multicultural values into school guidance programs and provide practical implications for school counselors in promoting inclusive and harmonious educational environments.

Abstract

Career planning is an essential developmental task for adolescents, particularly senior high school students who are approaching important educational and occupational transitions. However, many students continue to experience difficulties in identifying their interests, abilities, and future career goals, resulting in uncertainty regarding career decision-making. To address this issue, innovative and engaging career guidance media are needed to facilitate students’ career exploration and planning processes. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the feasibility of a Career Monopoly game as a guidance and counseling medium for enhancing career planning among senior high school students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4-D) model developed by Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel, consisting of the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. The product was developed based on a needs analysis conducted among Grade XI students at SMAN 2 Medan. The feasibility of the developed media was evaluated through expert validation and practicality testing. The validation process involved two content experts and two media experts, while practicality testing was conducted with a school counselor and eight Grade XI students. Data were collected using validation and student response questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The findings indicated that the Career Monopoly game achieved a content validity score of 92.5%, which falls within the very feasible category. The media was also positively evaluated in terms of visual design, interactivity, usability, and instructional quality. Furthermore, the practicality assessment revealed an overall student response score of 94%, indicating a very high level of practicality. Students perceived the game as attractive, easy to use, and helpful in understanding career-related information and developing career plans. The integration of career information and Holland’s RIASEC personality framework further supported students’ self-exploration and career decision-making processes. In conclusion, the Career Monopoly game is a valid and practical guidance and counseling medium for supporting career planning among senior high school students. The findings suggest that game-based career guidance media can enhance student engagement and provide meaningful learning experiences that facilitate career exploration and planning. Therefore, the Career Monopoly game may serve as an innovative alternative for delivering career guidance services in schools.
