Abstract

This research is motivated by the communication problems arising from early marriage. Ideally, marriage involves nurturing relationships but contrary to this ideal, conflicts often arise due to low communication quality among early-married couples. This study aims to describe the process of managing interpersonal relationships in early-married couples. The theories used in this research are Conflict Management and Relationship Maintenance Theory. The research method employed is descriptive-qualitative, using data collection techniques through deep interviews. The research findings explain the decisions to marry early, which can be caused by factors such as Marriage By Accident, education, and arranged marriages. Relationship management involves providing affection, such as openness, attention, support, and love. Couples adjust their communication by processes of mutual understanding and openness with each other. Moreover, they adjust by setting aside their egos to prioritize family needs over personal ones. Relationship management is facilitated by openness; some early-married couples are open, while others have one open partner who is open and one who is closed, or both partners may be closed. Additionally, early-married couples may lack specific rules but often have agreements regarding task division Communication to address issues in early marriage often involves discussions and negotiations between the spouses. While increasing quality time together is often cited as the most effective form of relationship management, in reality, most couples spend more time with their friends. Early-married couples try to set boundaries with their families and others to prevent interference. Conflict communication involves conflict management strategies such as win-lose strategies, verbal aggressiveness strategies, active fighting strategies, force strategies, and talk strategies. In conclusion, managing relationships in early marriage requires intensive and open communication. Additionally, it requires expressions of affection, relationship boundaries, openness, discussion, quality time, and efforts to resolve conflicts.

Abstract

Indonesia is renowned for its cultural diversity, encompassing various ethnic groups, languages, cultures, and religions. According to the 2010 Population Census by the Central Statistics Agency, there are 1,340 ethnic groups and 720 languages. However, the 2020 Population Census revealed a decline in the use of regional languages among the younger generation. This cultural diversity is showcased in the music video "Wonderland Indonesia 2: The Sacred Nusantara (Chapter 2)" by Alffy Rev. Preliminary research on the viewers’ reactions and comments indicates that audiences often struggle to grasp the messages and meanings behind the representation of Indonesia’s cultural diversity directly. This study aims to understand how viewers interpret the cultural diversity of Indonesia as portrayed in the music video "Wonderland Indonesia 2: The Sacred Nusantara (Chapter 2)." This research employs a constructivist paradigm, utilizing representation theory and Kluckhohn’s cultural elements, which include the language system, knowledge system, kinship and social organization system, living equipment and technology system, economic system, religious system, and art. The study adopts an audience meaning analysis approach to comprehend the viewers' interpretations and positioning regarding the cultural messages conveyed, based on Stuart Hall's three positions of decoding: Dominant, Negotiated, and Oppositional. The findings indicate that the audience has diverse interpretations of this music video, influenced by their cultural backgrounds and knowledge. Most informants adopt a dominant position in interpreting the cultural diversity of Indonesia; however, some informants have differing and critical interpretations of the dominant meaning

Abstract

Abstract

The post-truth era is characterized by the dominance of emotions and subjective opinions over objective facts, blurring the lines between reality and perception. This phenomenon poses serious challenges to journalistic integrity and ethical principles in journalistic work. This study aims to systematically review the scientific literature discussing ethical dilemmas, external pressures, and deviations in journalistic integrity between 2019 and 2024. By applying a systematic review approach and integrating three main theoretical frameworks, this study identifies the dynamics of roles, morality, and information interference that affect the quality of journalists' work. The analysis demonstrates the importance of ethical courage, institutional strengthening, and ongoing ethical literacy as the foundation for maintaining integrity amidst disinformation. This paper also proposes the Triadic Model of Integrity as a framework for further analysis and critical reflection on the realities of contemporary journalistic practice.

Abstract

The construction industry is characterized by a high level of complexity due to the involvement of multiple stakeholders with diverse interests, objectives, and backgrounds. This complexity makes conflict an inevitable phenomenon throughout project implementation. In this context, the Project Manager plays a crucial role in managing conflicts through communication and negotiation to maintain stakeholder relationships while ensuring project objectives are achieved. This study aims to explore the experiences of a Project Manager at PT Adinata Graha Raya in dealing with conflicts during an embankment construction project and to understand how conflict negotiation is carried out through the perspective of Face Negotiation Theory. This research employed a constructivist paradigm using a qualitative phenomenological approach. The participant was selected through purposive sampling, consisting of a Project Manager at PT Adinata Graha Raya with extensive experience in managing project conflicts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review, and were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings reveal that conflicts in embankment construction projects arise from differences in interests, communication breakdowns, limited resources, changing field conditions, and interactions among both internal and external stakeholders. In managing these conflicts, the Project Manager applied situational conflict management strategies, including problem solving, compromising, yielding, avoiding, and forcing, depending on the characteristics of each conflict. From the perspective of Face Negotiation Theory, the negotiation process was predominantly characterized by other-face and mutual-face orientations, reflected in efforts to maintain professional relationships, respect others, and achieve mutual understanding without compromising project goals. Furthermore, the Javanese cultural value of ngawulo influenced the Project Manager's communication style by emphasizing politeness, persuasion, and long-term relationship building. This study concludes that successful conflict management in construction projects depends not only on technical competence but also on communication skills, negotiation abilities, and an understanding of the socio-cultural values that shape interactions among project stakeholders. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of organizational communication, conflict communication, and construction project management studies.

Abstract

This study examines the lived experiences of Twitter cyber account users in managing conflict within romantic relationships formed and maintained in digital spaces. Romantic relationships through cyber accounts have distinctive dynamics because emotional intimacy is built through text-based communication, partially concealed identities, and partners' visible digital activities. This research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach with Moustakas' analytical procedures. Data were collected through text-based in-depth interviews with four informants who had been or were currently involved in romantic relationships with other cyber account users. The findings show that conflicts often emerge from misinterpretation of messages, delayed responses, changes in chat tone, partners' activities on timelines or Discord servers, the use of other accounts, and different boundaries regarding real-life information. Anonymity provides a sense of safety for self-expression, yet it also creates uncertainty when relationships become more personal. Conflict is handled through avoidance, accommodation, taking distance, clarification, compromise, and direct expression of feelings. The essence of the experience lies in negotiating emotional closeness and personal boundaries within anonymous relationships. The study also indicates the need for awareness and advocacy regarding healthy digital relationships so that users can recognize emotional risks such as overthinking, insecurity, excessive jealousy, and emotional dependence.

Abstract

The boycott issue of products perceived to be linked to Israel has attracted significant attention from the Indonesian public. AQUA, one of the largest bottled water brands in Indonesia, has also been the target of the boycott issue due to public sentiment linking its parent company to support for Israel. The spread of this issue occurs not only through mass media but also through electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) on social media, which allows people to quickly and widely disseminate opinions, comments, and information. This situation has the potential to impact consumer trust in AQUA products. The study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory research style. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents who had been exposed to news about the AQUA boycott and had seen or read discussions about AQUA on social media. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with the aid of SPSS software. The results showed that exposure to the AQUA Pro Israel boycott issue on CNBC News and the intensity of electronic word of mouth on social media influenced trust in AQUA products. The intensity of electronic word of mouth has a stronger influence than exposure to mass media coverage in shaping consumer trust levels. These findings suggest that communication on social media plays a significant role in influencing consumer perceptions and trust in a brand, particularly when the brand is in a crisis or the subject of public controversy.
