Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Biology learning, particularly on the skeletal system topic, due to the use of conventional worksheets that were unable to visualize abstract concepts effectively. In addition, students often experienced difficulties in understanding the structure and functions of the human skeletal system and showed low engagement during the learning process. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) for Grade XI Senior High School Biology and to determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects included material experts, media experts, Biology teachers, and 36 Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Solok Selatan. Data were collected through validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The results indicated that the developed AR-based LKPD achieved a material validity score of 96.67% and media validity scores of 95.38% and 93.85%, all categorized as very valid. The practicality test yielded an average score of 93.01%, indicating that the product was very practical and easy to use. Furthermore, the effectiveness test showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an NGain score of 97.67%, categorized as highly effective. Based on these findings, the AR-based LKPD was proven to be valid, practical, and effective for supporting Biology learning on the human skeletal system in Grade XI Senior High School.

Abstract

Methods and media are two essential elements in the learning process. The phenomenon found in qawā‘id learning at MTsN 1 Pringsewu shows that interactive learning media are still rarely used by teachers; even teachers are only fixated on textbooks and use videos and powerpoints that are not interactive. This causes students to not be enthusiastic in participating in learning. This research specifically aims to develop interactive qawā‘id learning media to increase learning enthusiasm. This research is development research using the Borg and Gall model with ten steps of development, and only this research is limited to the seventh step only. The results of the media expert's assessment of the H5P application learning media obtained a percentage value of 88% and was in the range of 70%-89%, which means that the media developed was categorized as feasible/good. Meanwhile, based on the results of field trials by giving questionnaires to 32 students of MTs Negeri 1 Pringsewu, student responses to the product developed were obtained with a score of 93.75%. This product in the form of H5P application learning media is very feasible to help students learn qawā‘id. However, this research is limited to the jumlah ismiyyah  and the jumlah fi‘liyyah. Based on the results of observations in learning and questionnaire responses to the developed media, it appears that students are very enthusiastic about participating in learning. This is because the learning media produced is exciting and interactive so that students are excited to learn

Abstract

This study aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for the Science subject on the Solar System topic for eighth-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Padang and to determine the validity and practicality of the developed media. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D development model, consisting of the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The product was developed using three-dimensional objects that can be displayed through Android smartphones with the support of marker cards. Data were collected through validation questionnaires completed by media and material experts, as well as practicality questionnaires administered to students. The results showed that the Augmented Reality learning media obtained a 97.14% media validity score, categorized as very valid, while the material validity score reached 100%, also categorized as very valid. The practicality test resulted in a percentage of 94.48%, categorized as very practical. Therefore, the Augmented Reality-based learning media for the Solar System topic is considered very valid and very practical and can be used as an alternative learning medium for science instruction for eighth-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Padang.

Abstract

Low participation has long shadowed mathematics instruction in Indonesian vocational high schools, where teacher-led delivery leaves learners watching rather than thinking. This study tested whether delivering the demonstration phase of the Direct Instruction (DI) model through purpose-built videos raises learning engagement and mathematics achievement, and explored how the two outcomes are related. A quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent pre-test-post-test control-group design was conducted with 58 tenth-grade students at a vocational school in West Sumatra, allocated to video-assisted DI (n = 30) or conventional DI (n = 28). Videos followed a documented design specification, and implementation fidelity, viewing compliance, and instructional time were recorded in both classes. Because a non-significant baseline test is not evidence of equivalence, the primary analysis was an analysis of covariance on post-test achievement with the pre-test as covariate, with familywise error controlled across both confirmatory outcomes. Engagement was higher in the experimental class by 10.92 points, 95% CI [7.90, 13.94], t(56) = 7.25, Hedges' g = 1.88. Adjusted post-test achievement was higher by 13.16 points, 95% CI [9.66, 16.67], F(1, 55) = 56.73, partial η² = .51, and remained stable across separate-slopes, Welch, and rank-based analyses. Engagement and achievement were strongly associated, r = .74, 95% CI [.60, .84], though this fell to .43 and .62 within classes. An exploratory decomposition attributed roughly half the adjusted group difference to engagement; because engagement was measured once, concurrently with the post-test, this is a statistical partition rather than a causal mechanism. Findings from a single school require replication.

Abstract

Vocational students in Indonesia are expected to reason scientifically and participate actively, yet many struggle once a task moves beyond recall. This study tested whether an inquiry-based learning (IBL) sequence built around Zep Quiz, a virtual-world quiz game, could raise learning activeness and critical thinking. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design used two intact Grade 10 classes at SMK Negeri 1 Painan (n = 30 each). The experimental class learned through six IBL stages mediated by Zep Quiz; the control class followed an activity-based routine. Activeness was measured with a Likert questionnaire and critical thinking with a higher-order thinking test. After confirming normality, homogeneity, and baseline equivalence, paired- and independent-samples t-tests and normalized gain were computed. Both groups improved, but the experimental group improved far more. Normalized gains reached the medium-to-high band for the experimental class (activeness ⟨g⟩ = .67; critical thinking ⟨g⟩ = .66) against low gains for the control class (.25 and .31). Post-test differences were large and significant for both activeness (t(58) = 10.67, d = 2.76) and critical thinking (t(58) = 7.19, d = 1.86), both p < .001. Embedding a virtual-world game inside a disciplined inquiry cycle appears a workable route to deeper engagement and higher-order reasoning in vocational science.
