Abstract

The erosion of local cultural values in formal education systems has become a critical issue in the globalization era. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sipakatau (mutual humanization), sipakalebbi (mutual respect), and sipakainge (mutual reminder) values in elementary students' character formation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design in two elementary schools in South Sulawesi, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis over four months. Findings reveal that these values are implicitly implemented in school culture but lack formal curricular integration. This research contributes a conceptual model for integrating local values into contextual, wisdom-based character education.

Abstract

The weakening of the patriotic character of elementary school students due to the influence of globalization, foreign cultures, and the development of digital technology causes students to tend to be less familiar with their own local culture, so it is important to examine how the local wisdom of the Mandar Tribe can strengthen the patriotic character of elementary school students. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach. Data were obtained through various literature sources in the form of scientific articles, journals, books, and documents relevant to character education, local wisdom, Mandar culture, and nationalism. The findings of this study indicate that the local wisdom of the Mandar Tribe has values relevant to strengthening the patriotic character, such as Metawe (mutual respect), Siwaliparri (mutual cooperation), Metabe (mutual assistance), and Mepuang (hospitality). These values can be integrated into learning through subjects, extracurricular activities, and habits at school. Integrating the local wisdom of the Mandar people not only helps preserve regional culture but also builds national identity, encourages pride in the country's culture, and forms the character of students who are responsible, tolerant, and empathetic. Therefore, the local knowledge of the Mandar people can function as a strategic and contextual learning tool to help elementary school students develop a stronger sense of love for their homeland.

Abstract

Preserving local culture from an early age is essential to maintain cultural heritage amid rapid modernization. One effort that can be implemented is through Reog Ponorogo traditional dance extracurricular activities. This study aims to describe the utilization of Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities as a cultural preservation effort in elementary schools. The research employed a literature review method by analyzing relevant national journal articles published within the last five years. The findings indicate that Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities function as a medium for cultural introduction, cultural preservation, and character development. Through these activities, students learn about the history, cultural values, philosophy, and regional identity embedded in Reog Ponorogo. The activities also contribute to increasing students’ cultural awareness, creativity, and self-confidence. However, challenges remain, including the influence of modern culture, declining interest in traditional arts, and limited supporting facilities. Therefore, support from various stakeholders is needed to optimize the implementation of Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities as a sustainable cultural preservation strategy.

Abstract

The transition to 21st-century education calls for the transformation of interactive digital media to accommodate shifts in the learning styles of Year 5 primary school pupils. However, the dominance of global content in digital media poses a threat to the erosion of local cultural identity. This study aims to investigate, map, and synthesise strategies and the effectiveness of integrating local cultural philosophy (ethnoscience) through digital gamification in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) curriculum. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design, adopting the standard PRISMA reporting protocol. Research trends and collaboration networks were mapped through bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer software. A review of various primary literature sources indicates that: (1) there is a growing need to develop culture-based interactive media to address the gap in the literature regarding game mechanics; (2) the most effective strategy for cultural integration is to convert local philosophical values into game rules, mission narratives, and reward systems, rather than merely visual embellishments; and (3) the fusion of gamification and ethnoscience has been empirically proven to enhance students’ cognitive understanding of abstract scientific concepts, whilst simultaneously boosting intrinsic motivation and the relevance of learning. The conclusions of this study affirm that gamification infused with local wisdom is an innovative pedagogical solution that not only improves academic achievement in IPAS but also serves as an instrument for cultural preservation in the digital age.

Abstract

International food industrialization has driven significant transformations in global food systems through production modernization, supply chain integration, product standardization, and the expansion of cross-border food trade. This phenomenon has directly affected the existence of local food systems, which have long played a crucial role in food security, cultural identity, and the economic sustainability of local communities. This study aims to analyze the development of local food amid international food industrialization, identify existing research gaps, and formulate future research and policy directions. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Literature was collected from Scopus, Google Scholar, and Crossref databases covering the period from 2020 to 2026. The selection process resulted in 42 articles that met the inclusion criteria and were subsequently analyzed. The findings indicate that international food industrialization exerts both positive and negative impacts on local food systems. Positive impacts include technology transfer, improved production efficiency, market expansion, and product innovation. Conversely, negative impacts involve the homogenization of consumption patterns, the marginalization of small-scale farmers, reduced food diversification, and increased dependence on global food systems. Furthermore, the review reveals that previous studies remain fragmented across the perspectives of food security, food sovereignty, and food industrialization, resulting in the absence of an integrative framework that explains the interrelationship among these dimensions. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive synthesis of the dynamics of local food development within the context of international food industrialization through the lenses of food security, food sovereignty, and sustainable food systems.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom into elementary school learning has garnered increasing attention alongside the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes contextual learning and the strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aims to map the characteristics of existing research, synthesize key findings, and identify research gaps concerning the integration of local wisdom into elementary school learning in Indonesia during the period 2021–2025. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed using Google Scholar with keywords related to local wisdom, ethnopedagogy, ethnomathematics, ethnoscience, and elementary schools. Of the 347 articles initially identified, 20 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a thematic synthesis approach. The findings reveal four main themes: (1) the use of traditional games and culture-based media contributes to psychomotor, cognitive, social-emotional, and numeracy literacy development; (2) local wisdom serves as a means of strengthening character education and the Pancasila Student Profile; (3) the application of ethnomathematics and ethnoscience supports conceptual understanding, mathematical communication, and critical thinking skills; and (4) research gaps persist, characterized by a scarcity of studies focusing on early elementary grades, limited representation from eastern Indonesia, and a lack of experimental and longitudinal research. Overall, the integration of local wisdom demonstrates significant potential as a contextual and meaningful learning strategy; however, its implementation still requires enhanced teacher capacity and the development of locally relevant instructional materials. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for the development of instructional practices and more diverse, contextually grounded future research agendas.

Abstract

The way people interact and communicate has changed significantly in recent years. Activities that were once carried out through direct face-to-face interactions are now increasingly conducted through social media and various digital platforms. This shift has influenced the social values that have long been embedded in Indonesian society, including gotong royong (mutual cooperation), which is recognized as one of the nation's cultural identities. This study aims to analyze the transformation of social values in Indonesian society from the culture of mutual cooperation to digital culture, as well as to examine the challenges and opportunities for preserving social values in the digital era. The study employed a library research method by utilizing relevant national and international journal articles as the primary sources of data. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that digital technology has transformed patterns of social interaction from physical spaces to digital environments. Nevertheless, the value of mutual cooperation has not disappeared; instead, it has adapted into more contemporary forms, such as online fundraising, digital social campaigns, and virtual communities. On the other hand, the digital era has also introduced challenges, including increasing tendencies toward individualism and reduced face-to-face social interaction. Therefore, efforts to preserve social values are needed through character education, digital literacy, and the responsible use of technology while maintaining the principles of togetherness and social solidarity.

Abstract

This study examines tepa selira, a Javanese local wisdom, as a strategy for resolving interpersonal conflicts among elementary school students through a thematic literature review approach. Data were collected from 28 peer-reviewed articles sourced from Google Scholar, Garuda, and DOAJ databases, analyzed using thematic analysis across five themes. The findings reveal that interpersonal conflicts in elementary schools are systemic phenomena rooted in low empathy and emotional regulation. Tepa selira, which emphasizes perspective-taking, self-control, and mutual respect, directly addresses these root causes. Compared to other local wisdoms that rely on collective mechanisms, tepa selira operates at the individual level, making it more adaptable for formal educational settings. Implementation can be carried out through subject integration, school culture habituation, activity-based approaches, and guided mediation. This study contributes a culturally-rooted conflict resolution framework applicable to elementary education contexts.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia's cultural diversity needs to be preserved through education by integrating local wisdom into the learning process. However, learning activities in schools are often less contextual because they do not adequately consider students' cultural backgrounds. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) based on Javanese local wisdom and to identify students' responses and engagement during the learning process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The study was conducted in Grade IV of SD Negeri Randusari involving 16 students. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and learning reflection, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that CRT was implemented by integrating Javanese local wisdom into Indonesian language learning through the use of the traditional song Suwe Ora Jamu, culture-based learning media, and learning activities connected to students' cultural experiences. The implementation of CRT created contextual and meaningful learning experiences. Students showed positive responses and active engagement during learning activities, including group discussions, problem-solving, presentations, and reflections. In addition, the integration of local culture contributed to the development of cultural awareness and appreciation of local cultural heritage. Therefore, CRT based on Javanese local wisdom can serve as an effective learning approach to create active, meaningful, and culturally responsive learning in elementary schools. Abstract

Local wisdom is one of the important elements in contextual learning that can be used to strengthen the cultural identity of students in elementary school. This study aims to analyze the integration of local wisdom of Samarinda City in the learning of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) in order to increase the cultural awareness of elementary school students. The research uses a literature study method (library research) by examining various scientific sources in the form of journal articles, books, curriculum documents, and research results relevant to local wisdom, science learning, cultural identity, and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). Data is analyzed through content analysis techniques which include data collection, reduction, organization, and interpretation. The results of the study show that the local wisdom of Samarinda City which includes Dayak, Kutai, Banjar, Erau traditions, Jepen dance, Horngang dance, Lamin traditional houses, beaded crafts, traditional food, as well as the value of mutual cooperation and environmental conservation have great potential to be integrated in IPAS materials. This integration can be done through the development of electronic teaching materials, project-based learning, exploration of the surrounding environment, and the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach. The implementation of learning based on local wisdom is able to increase students' understanding of regional culture, foster a sense of pride in cultural identity, and strengthen cultural awareness in daily life. Therefore, the integration of local wisdom in social studies learning is an important strategy in realizing contextual education rooted in local culture.
