Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characters and characterization in the novel Hi Berlin 1998 by Wahyuni Albiy. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach. The data consist of excerpts of dialogues, narrative scenes, and characters’ actions found in the novel. Data were collected through close reading and systematic note-taking techniques. The data analysis employed content analysis to interpret the characterization of each figure. The findings reveal that character and characterization constitute significant intrinsic elements of the novel. Characters are defined as individuals who participate in narrative events, while characterization refers to the author’s technique in depicting characters’ physical and psychological traits. The novel Hi Berlin 1998 presents eleven characters, which are classified into protagonists and antagonists. The protagonists include Sakeza Labiru, Jan Adam, Abarak, Hazel, Bryan, Julie, Erica, and Sakeza’s parents, whereas the antagonists are Araka Bentara and Vodka. Each character is portrayed with distinctive traits, physical descriptions, and unique characteristics that contribute to the development of the narrative.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji nilai-nilai budaya dalam cerita rakyat Guha Ciputri di Singajaya yang menjadi warisan budaya penting masyarakat sekitar. Cerita ini mengandung nilai kesopanan, kepercayaan, tanggung jawab, gotong royong, dan pendidikan moral. Guha Ciputri dipercaya sebagai tempat tinggal makhluk gaib perempuan dan sumber mata air yang vital bagi sekitar 25 kampung. Metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif ini melibatkan tiga orang pewaris cerita sebagai narasumber utama dan lima tokoh masyarakat sebagai informasi kunci. Untuk memvalidasi data sejarah serta fungsi sosial Guha. Data dikumpulkan melalui teks cerita rakyat, wawancara mendalam, dan observasi lingkungan, selain pendektan deskriptif, penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis data model interaktif yang meliputi redukasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan (verifikasi) untuk membedah struktur  serta makna filosofis dalam cerita tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa cerita rakyat ini berperan dalam melestarikan budaya lokal sekaligus menjadi media pendidikan karakter yang mengajarkan pentingnya menjaga hubungan harmonis antara manusia, alam, dan dunia gaib. Nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung, memperkaya khazanah budaya setempat dan mendukung pelestarian lingkungan serta pembentukan generasi muda. Secara teoritis dan praktis, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi signifikan terhadap penguatan dokumentasi Folklor Nusantara dan menjadi referensi model penge,bangan materi pendidikan karakter berbasis kearifan lokal yang relavan dengan tantangan zaman.

Abstract

Beginning writing is a foundational literacy skill in early elementary education because it supports students’ ability to form letters, build words, and construct simple sentences to express ideas. However, classroom instruction at the early writing stage often remains procedural and copy-based, with limited media to stimulate idea development, engagement, and confidence in initiating written texts. This study developed and tested a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by the interactive digital application Qreatif Educative to improve Grade 1 students’ beginning writing skills. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the study followed sequential stages of needs analysis, information gathering, product design, expert validation, limited trial, field trial, and final revision. The research site was SDN 3 Sukamaju. Validators consisted of two content experts and two media experts. A small-group trial involved 7 students, followed by a field trial involving 16 students. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and pretest–posttest writing assessments. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically to capture usability feedback and implementation challenges, while quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using feasibility percentages and inferentially using a paired-sample t-test. The developed model and media were rated very feasible by experts, with content and media validation results reaching 88%. Student responses in the small-group trial indicated very positive usability and engagement, with an average feasibility score of 85.56%. Effectiveness testing in the field trial demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ beginning writing performance after implementation (paired-sample t-test, p = .000 < .05). Overall, integrating PjBL with Qreatif Educative provides a feasible and effective approach to strengthening beginning writing through structured projects, interactive practice, and guided feedback in early elementary classrooms.

Abstract

Abstract Essay writing skills are an important aspect of education because they help improve students' critical and analytical thinking abilities. This study discusses the results of applying an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) to enhance students' essay writing skills in Senior High Schools (SMA). The specific objectives are: (1) to implement an IndoBERT-based NLP model that can identify grammatical errors and provide suggestions for improvement in students' essays; (2) to test the effectiveness of this model through experiments in high schools by comparing groups that use the AI application with a control group that does not; and (3) to obtain responses from students and teachers regarding the use of NLP-based AI in improving writing skills, including sentence structure, grammar, and depth of argumentation.This research was conducted with twelfth-grade students at SMAN 1 Garut in the 2025–2026 academic year. A mixed-methods approach with a Sequential Explanatory design was used, beginning with a quantitative phase to test the effectiveness of the model, followed by a qualitative phase to gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of IndoBERT use in essay writing classes.The findings indicate that the application of this model is effective for essay writing. This is evidenced by a p-value of 0.002 (< 0.05). The mean difference of 10.281 demonstrates a substantial improvement in the experimental class. Furthermore, qualitative data from interviews with teachers and students showed positive responses. Keywords: essay writing, IndoBERT, mixed method

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the psychological aspects of the main character in the novel Seporsi Mie Ayam Before Death by Brian Khrisna using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory as the main foundation. The method used is a qualitative approach with content analysis techniques. The focus of the research is on the interaction of Freud's three personality structures, namely id, ego, and superego in describing the inner conflicts experienced by the character. The results of the analysis show that the conflict between the instinctive impulse (id) to avoid suffering, the mechanism of self-control (ego), and moral demands or social norms (superego) form a realistic and complex psychological picture of the character. This dynamic also reveals how the characters struggle to find meaning in life in conditions of depression and existential crisis. This study shows that Freud's psychoanalytic approach is effective for the study of literary psychology in exploring mental health problems and the search for meaning in contemporary Indonesian literary works.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the emotional journey of children in dealing with the loss of the father figure as represented in the novel Father, This Is the Direction to Where, huh? by Khoirul Trian. This study uses a literary psychology approach with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory which includes aspects of id, ego, and superego. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques in the form of documentation studies through the extraction of relevant quotes from the novel. The data analysis technique is carried out using content analysis with the stages of reading the text in depth, determining the unit of analysis, classifying the data based on psychological aspects, and interpreting the meaning of the text. The results showed that the id aspect was the most dominant element with six citations, while the ego and superego aspects were found in two citations each. Thus, this novel represents the psychological process of children who experience the loss of a father in a complex and layered manner, as well as depicting psychological dynamics that are relevant to the emotional phenomena of the younger generation in the Indonesian social context.

Abstract

The low skill in writing response texts among junior high school students is often caused by limited enthusiasm and difficulty in organizing ideas systematically. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Think-Pair-Share model, assisted by mind mapping, in improving response-text writing skills and to identify students' perceptions and the challenges teachers face during its implementation. The research employed a quantitative, pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest. The sample consisted of 30 seventh-grade students at SMP Asshidiqiyah in Garut Regency, Academic Year 2024/2025, selected via cluster random sampling. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and interviews, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and normalized gain calculations with SPSS version 25.0. The results indicate that the Think-Pair-Share model with mind mapping effectively enhanced students' writing skills, as evidenced by an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an average normalized gain of 73.33%, which falls into the medium category. Furthermore, 75.3% of students responded positively to the use of the model and media, while technical and classroom management obstacles were successfully addressed through appropriate instructional strategies. It is concluded that the Think-Pair-Share model, supported by mind mapping, is recommended as an alternative for Indonesian language instruction, particularly for teaching narrative-genre text writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan berbagai jenis diskriminasi terhadap perempuan dan mengungkap upaya tokoh perempuan untuk mempertahankan eksistensi dan identitas dirinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang diperoleh berupa hasil kutipan dan dialog tokoh yang relevan yaitu menganalisis bentuk ketidakadilan gender berupa, (1) diskriminasi dan (2) penolakan sebagai ‘liyan’ dalam kerangka feminisme Simone de Beauvoir pada novel Kokokan Mencari Arumbawangi karya Cyntha Hariadi. Dengan demikian, temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa diskriminasi gender sering kali tidak disadari karena sudah melebur dalam kebiasaan sosial, dan hal itu tampak jelas melalui bagaimana tokoh perempuan digambarkan dalam karya sastra. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa sastra bukan hanya sekadar karya estetis, tetapi juga menjadi ruang untuk merefleksikan realitas sekaligus alat perlawanan terhadap dominasi patriarki. Dalam konteks feminisme sastra, penelitian ini memperkuat peran kritik sastra sebagai cara untuk membangun kesadaran kritis pembaca. Dengan membuka praktik ketidakadilan yang selama ini dianggap wajar, penelitian ini tidak hanya menambah khazanah kajian feminis, tetapi juga menegaskan bahwa sastra memiliki kekuatan sebagai agen perubahan sosial yang mampu menantang dan mengubah struktur penindasan gender dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Lirik lagu sering dipandang hanya sebagai hiburan, padahal di dalamnya tersimpan pengalaman batin dan cara manusia memaknai hidup. Lagu “Bunga Abadi” merupakan salah satu karya populer yang menyampaikan tema cinta melalui simbol bunga yang abadi serta perjalanan emosi yang dialami dalam hubungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membaca dan menafsirkan makna simbol yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu “Bunga Abadi” dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika sastra. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif melalui teknik analisis teks, yaitu membaca dan menafsirkan bagian-bagian lirik secara rinci untuk menemukan makna tanda dan simbol yang terkandung di dalamnya. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa simbol “bunga abadi” merepresentasikan cinta yang tidak berhenti meskipun waktu telah berlalu serta hubungan emosional yang melewati berbagai suasana seperti kebahagiaan dan kesedihan, yang tetap hidup melalui ingatan dan kesetiaan. Cinta dalam lirik lagu tersebut tetap terjaga melalui kesadaran akan makna kasih sayang dan penerimaan terhadap dinamika kehidupan hubungan. Dengan demikian, lirik lagu “Bunga Abadi” dipahami sebagai refleksi pengalaman emosional manusia yang bersifat universal dan layak dikaji sebagai bagian dari sastra populer. KATA KUNCI: Lirik lagu; semiotika sastra; simbol bunga; cinta abadi; pengalaman emosional         >    THE MEANING OF LOVE AND LOSS IN THE LYRICS OF THE SONG "ETERNAL FLOWER" BY RIO CLAPPY: A STUDY OF LITERARY SEMIOTICS   ABSTRACT: Song lyrics are often regarded merely as entertainment, even though they contain inner experiences and reflect how humans interpret life. The song “Bunga Abadi” is a popular work that conveys the theme of love through the symbol of an eternal flower and the emotional journey experienced within a relationship. This study aims to read and interpret the symbolic meanings found in the lyrics of “Bunga Abadi” using a literary semiotic approach. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method through text analysis techniques, namely reading and interpreting the lyric sections in detail to uncover the meanings of the signs and symbols contained within them. The results of the analysis show that the symbol of the “eternal flower” represents a love that does not fade despite the passage of time, as well as an emotional relationship that passes through various states such as happiness and sadness, yet remains alive through memory and loyalty. Love in the song’s lyrics is preserved through an awareness of the meaning of affection and an acceptance of the dynamics of relationships in life. Thus, the lyrics of “Bunga Abadi” can be understood as a reflection of universal human emotional experiences and are worthy of study as part of popular literature. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konflik sosial dalam novel Home Sweet Loan karya Almira Bastari dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan sumber data berupa novel Home Sweet Loan. Data penelitian berupa kutipan-kutipan yang menggambarkan konflik sosial, yang dikumpulkan melalui teknik baca dan catat serta didukung oleh studi pustaka dan dokumentasi. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan cara mengklasifikasikan dan menafsirkan bentuk-bentuk konflik sosial yang ditemukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya beberapa bentuk konflik sosial, yaitu konflik ekonomi, konflik dalam hubungan keluarga, serta konflik sosial yang berkaitan dengan tekanan lingkungan dan status sosial. Konflik-konflik tersebut mencerminkan realitas kehidupan masyarakat perkotaan yang dihadapkan pada tuntutan ekonomi dan sosial. Dengan demikian, novel Home Sweet Loan dapat dipahami sebagai cerminan kondisi sosial masyarakat modern yang sarat dengan tekanan hidup dan ketimpangan sosial. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with the novel as the primary data source. The data consisted of quotations that depict social conflict and were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, supported by literature studies and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by classifying and interpreting the forms of social conflict found in the novel. The results indicate that several types of social conflict are represented, including economic conflict, family relationship conflict, and social conflict related to environmental pressure and social status. These conflicts reflect the realities of urban life, particularly the economic and social demands faced by modern society. The study concludes that Home Sweet Loan portrays social conflict as a reflection of contemporary social conditions characterized by life pressures and social inequality.
