Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fungsi ujaran dan proses dominan yang terdapat dalam iklan Indomie versi Arab serta mengapa fungsi ujaran dan proses tertentu yang digunakan dalam iklan Indomie versi Arab. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 6 klausa berupa iklan Indomie versi Arab dan dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori Linguistik Sistemik Fungsional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi ujaran yang ditemukan paling dominan pada iklan Indomie versi Arab adalah “Pernyataan” sebagai kemunculan tertinggi. Seterusnya hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan proses dominan yaitu proses relasional sebagai kemunculan tertinggi dalam iklan Indomie versi Arab. Selanjutnya hubungan yang terjadi antara fungsi ujaran dan proses dominan dikarenakan sifat iklan yang disampaikan merupakan penjelasan dalam bentuk pernyataan oleh  produsen terkait produk yang ditawarkan yaitu Indomie, maka fungsi ujaran pernyataan dan proses relasional adalah yang paling tepat digunakan dalam ikllan Indomie versi Arab.

Abstract

This study anchored in the field of Interlanguage Pragmatic (ILP). The approach taken is speech act based. The investigation focuses on realization of polite requests produced by Indonesian learners of Français langue étrangère (FLE) (henceforth abbreviated as ILF) and native speakers of French (henceforth abbreviated as NSF). The model used for the investigation is the Cross-Cultural Speech Act Realization Project (CCSARP) model formulated by Blum-Kulka et al. (1989), modified by Warga (2005) and Bae (2012). The model applied to the analysis of the data is based on three politeness systems of social relationship between speaker and addressee proposed by Scollon and Scollon (2001). Data was be collected by using Written Discourse Completion Test (WDCT). Six out of twelve request situations formulated by Reiter (2000) categorized into each politeness system were selected to be analyzed. The WDCT were tested to 20 ILF; 1 learner of Universitas Negeri Medan and 19 learners of Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The 20 participants are those who are certified of Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF) of B2 level (advanced level). As the baseline data of the study, the e-mailed data of 20 NSF were also collected. The study found that there is a preference of Indonesian learners of FLE and native speaker of French to use Conventional Indirect strategy in their requests. This strategy, even realized in slightly different number of use, was highly used and considered to be the most polite request by the two groups.

Abstract

AbstractThis study focused on the semantic field for the categorization of meaning, kind of meaning and semantic structure of verbs touch in Indonesian (verba sentuh). The reason of this research is the discovery of ambiguous meaning of a word when we refer to the monolingual dictionary that exists today. The method used is descriptive method with a form of qualitative research. The data in this study is verbs touch and source of research was obtained from the dictionary of Indonesian language (Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia) in 2008. The theory used in this analysis is the theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM). Data were analyzed using three stages, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion/verification. The analysis result obtained was four original meaning which holds a stake in touch verb formation, namely: [FEEL], [BEAT], [PRESSING] and [RUB]. The other components that make up the touch verb is 'someone' and 'something'. This study is only a fraction of the research from Natural Semantic Metalanguage data sourced from Indonesian. This research is expected to contribute for other Natural Semantic Metalanguage research. So that later can be arranged a monolingual Bahasa dictionary based on Natural Semantics Metalanguage.AbstrakPenelitian ini difokuskan pada bidang semantik untuk kategorisasi makna, jenis makna dan struktur semantik dari verba sentuh dalam bahasa  Indonesia. Alasan yang menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya keambiguan makna suatu kata apabila kita merujuk pada kamus monolingual yang ada saat ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data pada penelitian ini berupa verba sentuh dan sumber data penelitian diperoleh dari kamus (KBBI) pada tahun 2008. Teori yang digunakan dalam analisis ini adalah teori Metabahasa Semantik Alami (MSA). Teknik analisis data menggunakan tiga tahap yaitu, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasil analisis yang didapat adalah empat makna asali yang memegang andil dalam pembentukan verba sentuh, yaitu: [MERASAKAN], [MEMUKUL], [MENEKAN] dan [MENGGOSOK]. Komponen lain yang membentuk verba sentuh adalah ‘seseorang’ dan ‘sesuatu’. Penelitian ini hanya sebagian kecil dari penelitian-penelitian Metabahasa Semantik Alami yang bersumber data dari bahasa Indonesia. Diharapkan dengan adanya penelitian ini akan dapat berkontribusi pada penelitian Metabahasa Semantik Alami yang lain. Agar nantinya dapat disusun sebuah kamus monolingual bahasa Indonesia berdasarkan Metabahasa Semantik Alami.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyze the Ecosophy of Syair Ikan Terubuk using a critical ecolinguistic approach. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, researchers used the documentation method. The data of this research are lexicons, phrases, and verses containing the ecosophy of environmental preservation, especially the aquatic environment, which is sourced from Syair Ikan Terubuk. The results showed that the lingual units in Syair Ikan Terubuk has positive values and encourage people to love, care for and preserve their environment (ecosophy values). This Syair Ikan Terubuk presents 60 types of fish in the Bengkalis sea and in Puyu-Puyu Lake with their respective characters. Although this poem is a symbolic poem about human behavior, but it has a very strong connection with the environment. It is proven that in the past a large number of fish mentioned in the previous poem existed and became a source of sustenance for the Bengkalis community, but nowadays it is very difficult to find them, even most of them are no longer found. At least by analyzing these verses, the current generation and so on will not make matters worse. The ecosophy values of the Malay ancestors in caring for and living side by side with their natural surroundings are clearly stated in this Syair Ikan Terubuk.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang perilaku bentuk nirverbal guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Lokasi penelitian ini di SMA Negeri 1 Kutalimbaru, Kabupaten Deliserdang. Teori yang digunakan adalah Multimodal oleh Kress dan Leeuwen. Objek penelitian ini adalah guru  yang mengampu mata pelajaran Kimia. Dalam pengumpulan data digunakan data nirverbal berupa gambar, dibantu dengan teknik rekam, dengan metode simak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku bentuk nirverbal yang digunakan guru di SMA N 1 Kutalimbaru ada tiga, yaitu  bentuk fasial, postural, gestural. Berdasarkan data yang telah dianalisis, diketahui bahwa perilaku bentuk nirverbal yang digunakan oleh guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di SMA N 1 Kutalimbaru Kabupaten Deliserdang adalah bentuk fasial, gestural dan postural dan diketahui bahwa penggunaan komunikasi nirverbal sangat rendah dibandingkan penggunaan komunikasi verbal, yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya penguasaan materi bahan ajar oleh guru, sehingga kegiatan pembelajaran berkesan kaku, dan membosankan. Katakunci : multimodal, gestur, guru, pembelajaranPenelitian ini membahas tentang perilaku bentuk nirverbal guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Abstract

The objective of the research is to seek the laughter interjection on WhatsApp social media. The data is taken from the conversations on WhatsApp social media. The data are analyzed using Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) theory. The method used is a qualitative method. From the results of the study, it was found that there were several laughter interjections found in WhatsApp social media, namely laughter interjections hahaha, hehehe, wkwkwk, and hiks hiks hiks. The interjection of laughing hahaha indicates a sense of reluctance or discomfort and there is also a sense of humor felt by the speaker. While the laughter interjection hehehe shows the shame towards someone or feels bad because the speaker feels disturbing to others or feels reluctant to treat the interlocutor in the conversation. Then there is the laughter interjection wkwkwk which shows something that is considered very funny so that the speaker or interlocutor feels amused by the stated expression. Finally, there is an interjection of laughing hiks hiks hiks, which is a person's embarrassment about a statement of someone has said. Keywords:  Laughter Interjection, WhatsApp, Natural Semantic Metalanguage

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the values of natural disaster mitigation among Acehnese Tsunami Victims. Natural disaster mitigation is an important issue for people who live in disaster-prone country such as Indonesia. Hermeneutical approach was employed in this study to reveal the values of disaster mitigation contained in the book about true story of the survivors of the Earthquake and Tsunami that occurred on December 26, 2004. The results of this research indicate that there are eighteen values of natural disaster mitigation, with details of 9 mitigation values about what to do when a tsunami occurs, 3 mitigation values about what should be avoided, and 6 mitigation values about preventive measures to reduce tsunami risk. Finally, this research reveals that these empirical facts can corroborate the theories and concepts of mitigation of the Earthquake and Tsunami disaster and also as reference to various educational context.

Abstract

Berkembangnya teknologi dan internet dengan kemudahan mengakses informasi secara bebas sangat mendukung bidang pembelajaran khususnya dalam pembelajaran literasi multimodal bahasa inggris. Pada awalnya, pembelajaran literasi guru dan pembelajar berkomunikasi melalui keterampilan membaca dan menulis dalam artian melek huruf. Namun. dengan peningkatan pengembangan teknik pembelajaran dewasa ini menjadi literasi multimodal. Tujuan pelatihan adalah untuk (1) mengembangkan wawasan keilmuwan dan keterampilan mahasiswa menjadi instruktur pembelajaran literasi bahasa inggris berbasis multimodal yang telah diperoleh selama kuliah, dan (2) mahasiswa yang dilatih mengimplementasikan literasi bahasa Inggris berbasis multimodal untuk pembelajaran di Madrasyah Tsaniwiyah (MTs) SKB 3 Menteri Sinar Serdang Desa Rantau Panjang, Kecamatan Pantai Labu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Hasil pelatihan mahasiswa menunjukkan (1) mereka mengimplementasi pengetahuan dan mahir membangun komunikasi secara sosial langsung dengan pembelajar di sekolah, dan (2) menerapkan teknik critical thinking dan soft skill dalam mengajar literasi bahasa Inggris siswa MTs. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan peningkatan perhatian dan pemahaman siswa MTs terhadap materi dalam membaca teks bahasa Inggris, dan mereka mulai berani mengekspresi ide mereka.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is crucial for effective language acquisition, enabling learners to comprehend spoken and written words and articulate their thoughts. The PowToon application, with its engaging animated videos, offers an immersive and clear learning experience. This is particularly beneficial for English learners, where proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing is vital. This study investigates the impact of the PowToon application on enhancing students' vocabulary. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental Design, data were gathered through observations and tests. The analysis was based on descriptive statistics. The sample comprised 52 tenth-grade students at Tunas Pelita High School. The experimental group, which used PowToon, had a pretest average of 36.19 compared to the control group's 38.40. However, post-tests revealed a score of 82.31 for the experimental group and 71.70 for the control group, indicating a more significant vocabulary improvement in the PowToon cohort. The findings confirm that the PowToon application positively affects vocabulary acquisition. The research underscores PowToon’s potential to enhance students' comprehension, spelling, and pronunciation of English vocabulary, ultimately bolstering their overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates lexical density and readability in students’ undergraduate thesis introductions. Documentation technique is used to collect the data while qualitative content analysis was employed as the method to present the data. The data of this study were content words and sentences taken from the data sources of 20 undergraduate’s thesis introductions. The scores of lexical density and readability were obtained by using Flesch Reading Ease Tool online. The findings show that all introductions exhibit high lexical density, with scores ranging from 51,28% to 68,08%. Whilst, the readability scores range from 10.92 to 17.58, and they are all categorized as being very difficult writings. In summary, the findings demonstrate that all thesis introductions exhibit a high level of complexity in their writing. These introductions showcase the deliberate use of rich and precise content words. Consequently, they pose a significant challenge for comprehension due to their density.
