Abstract

Purpose this study was motivated by the limitations of English learning for visually impaired students, which is still dominated by the use of conventional Braille without audio support, resulting in less optimal understanding of pronunciation, vocabulary, and language context. The study aims to describe students’ perceptions, analyze the role of an AI-based Braille–audio dictionary in understanding abstract materials, illustrate active participation, and identify learning obstacles and experiences. Methods this research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies conducted at SLB Negeri Mempawah and SLB Negeri Rasau Jaya. Findings the findings revealed that the integration of Braille and audio improved students’ understanding of vocabulary, pronunciation, and language context more comprehensively. The media also encouraged emotional engagement, active participation, and learning independence. Although technical obstacles and the need to adjust the audio pace were identified, the AI-based Braille–audio dictionary remained effective and relevant in supporting inclusive learning. Research Implications the study suggests that integrating AI-assisted Braille–audio learning media can enhance accessibility and learning outcomes for visually impaired students. The findings provide practical implications for educators, schools, and policymakers in developing more inclusive English language learning environments that support student participation, autonomy, and meaningful learning experiences. Originality this study offers a novel contribution by examining the use of an AI-based Braille–audio dictionary as an inclusive English learning tool for visually impaired students. Unlike conventional Braille-based learning resources, this approach combines tactile and auditory modalities, providing a more comprehensive learning experience that supports vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation development, and contextual language understanding.

Abstract

This community service program explored collaboration potential between FKIP Tanjungpura University's Postgraduate Program and 40 teachers and principals in Mempawah Regency through strategic brainstorming. The activity employed a participatory approach involving program introduction, Focus Group Discussions, evaluation, and follow-up planning. Data were collected using open-ended questionnaire survey instruments and analyzed through thematic analysis with open coding technique. Results revealed that 75% of participants viewed AI as an educational opportunity, while 22.5% recognized both benefits and risks. Primary collaboration expectations centered on graduate education access, with emphasis on scholarship support and simplified admission processes. Participants also prioritized capacity-building workshops, institutional collaboration with MKKS and MGMP, and equity in professional development opportunities. The brainstorming yielded concrete follow-up plans including MoU drafting, teacher training programs, collaborative research initiatives, and community service activities addressing educational needs in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Cake application on students' motivation and learning outcomes in learning English. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The participants of this study consisted of 64 students divided into two groups: 32 students in the experimental class and 32 students in the control class. Data were collected through a learning motivation questionnaire and learning outcome tests administered before and after the treatment. The research instruments were first tested for validity using Pearson Product Moment correlation and for reliability using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, N-Gain analysis, and effect size calculation. The results of the study indicate that the use of the Cake application has a positive effect on students' motivation and learning outcomes. The improvement in motivation and learning outcomes in the experimental class tends to be higher than that in the control class, which used conventional learning methods. Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis shows that the improvement in the experimental class falls into the moderate category, while the control class falls into the low category. The effect size calculation also indicates that the use of the Cake application provides a moderate effect on improving students' motivation and learning outcomes. In conclusion, the Cake application can be used as an effective technology-based learning medium to enhance students' motivation and learning outcomes in English learning.

Abstract

This article reports on a community service program conducted by FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia, aimed at enhancing professional English competency and AI literacy among journalists at Pontianak Post. The program integrated comprehensive English communication training with artificial intelligence tool applications, including ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Elicit, Consensus, Humata, Otter AI, and Canva AI. A post-training survey was administered to 20 participating journalists using a Likert-scale instrument supplemented by open-ended questions. Results indicate overwhelmingly positive outcomes, with overall satisfaction reaching 4.80 out of 5.00. The highest-rated aspects included the international collaboration value (4.85), AI-enhanced learning effectiveness (4.80), and participants' intention to continue using AI tools in their professional practice (4.80). Qualitative feedback revealed that journalists experienced significant improvements in their confidence to communicate in English, enhanced efficiency in news production through AI integration, and increased awareness of ethical considerations in technology-assisted journalism. The findings demonstrate that combining language competency training with digital literacy creates a synergistic effect that prepares journalists for the evolving demands of contemporary media practice.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence in English language teaching faces implementation challenges despite documented benefits, particularly in resource-limited Indonesian contexts where teachers' digital competence significantly influences adoption. This community service program addressed these gaps through comprehensive technology integration training focused on Google AI Studio for pronunciation instruction at SMPN 1 Jongkat, Mempawah Regency. The program employed a participatory approach combining needs analysis, hands-on training, collaborative workshops, and systematic evaluation involving 19 teachers. Post-training surveys using 5-point Likert scales assessed confidence levels across multiple dimensions of AI-assisted pronunciation instruction. Results demonstrated consistently high confidence levels across most dimensions, with means ranging from 4.26 to 4.74, particularly in using AI-generated speech for listening input and designing speaking activities. However, teachers showed notably lower confidence in self-assessment applications, revealing hesitation in comparing their own pronunciation with AI-generated models. The majority of participants prioritized ease of material development as the primary advantage. Analysis through the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge framework indicated successful development of integrated technical and pedagogical competence, though limited articulation of specific implementation strategies suggests need for ongoing professional support. The training successfully established foundational confidence for AI integration while identifying areas requiring continued development to ensure sustainable implementation.
