Abstract

Healthy living behavior is a reflection of a family lifestyle that always pays attention to and maintains the health of all family members. School-age children are a critical age group because at that age a child is vulnerable to health problems. In addition, school-age children are also in a condition that is very sensitive to stimuli so they are easy to guide, direct, and still have good habits, including healthy living habits. Children of this age also have the trait of always wanting to convey what they receive and know from other people. The results of observations made at the Kuala Langat Malaysia Guidance Centre still have a lack of healthy behavior. The conditions of the students were very diverse and the facilities were inadequate, because all classes, from grade 1 to grade 6, were made into 1 class. Washing hands with soap (Hand Hygiene) is one of the healthy living behavior in students. This is important for children who are vulnerable to both communicable and non-communicable diseases. The method of implementing community service is through education and the practice of washing hands with soap directly to students. The results show that students and teachers are very enthusiastic and follow every step practiced by the presenters. they were happy and practiced together after the activity was over. By providing education on healthy living, especially hand washing, it is hoped that teachers and students at the Kuala Langat Guidance Centre will have good and healthy habits.

Abstract

Perceptions and intentions about breastfeeding, especially among adolescents who represent future parents vary widely. Understanding these views is essential for designing impactful health education programs. This study aimed to assess perceptions and intentions toward breastfeeding among adolescents in Bangladesh. Method used a cross-sectional survey conducted on 132 adolescents aged 14-18 years from urban and rural areas of Bangladesh, who were selected through appropriate sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using a computer program that used descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant relationships were identified between breastfeeding perception and several socio-demographic factors such as class level (t=2.107, p=.037), mother’s education level (t=2.215, p=.029), father’s education level (F=5.189, p=.007), and source of information on breastfeeding (F=4.290, p=.006). Additionally, a positive correlation was found between the number of siblings and breastfeeding perceptions (r=.047, p=.047). On the other hand, no significant relationship between a range of socio-demographic factors and adolescents' intentions regarding breastfeeding in Bangladesh was noticed in this study. P<.05 was used as the significant of this study. It is concluded that educational interventions that address both male and female adolescents, emphasizing the health benefits of breastfeeding and overcoming social barriers, are crucial for promoting a supportive breastfeeding culture.

Interviews were conducted with the research subjects to obtain age data, then body weight, height and waist circumference were taken. The analysis used univariate analysis, namely frequency distribution. The results of the study showed that the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, as many as 19 people (58%), while the nutritional status of respondents based on waist circumference was mostly central obesity, as many as 26 people (79%). Although the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, most of the respondents' waist circumference experienced central obesity. This deserves attention, because central obesity can increase the risk factors for metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, therefore it is recommended that waist circumference can be reduced.
