Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of political parties in the consolidation of democracy in Indonesia through a qualitative approach with a literature study method. The political transition after the 1998 reform has opened up a more open democratic space, but has not yet fully produced substantive democracy. Political parties as the main pillars of democracy should carry out the functions of interest aggregation, political education, cadre formation, and supervision of the government. However, various literatures show that political parties in Indonesia still face various challenges, such as oligarchic dominance, weak internal democracy, low quality of cadre recruitment, and a tendency towards political pragmatism. This study uses secondary data from journal articles, academic books, and reports from credible institutions which are systematically analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that political parties have not been able to become effective agents of democratic consolidation due to the lack of party institutionalization and low political literacy of the community. Therefore, a comprehensive reform of the party system is needed through institutional strengthening, internal transparency, and encouragement of more inclusive political participation. This study provides a conceptual understanding of the institutional obstacles to Indonesia's democratization and recommends strategic steps to realize democracy that is not only procedural, but also substantive and sustaina
Decentralization and Effectiveness of Regional Government: Literature Review on the Implementation of Regional Autonomy in Indonesia Samsidar, Samsidar

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between decentralization and the effectiveness of regional government in Indonesia through a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Decentralization implemented after the reform through regional autonomy policies has given broad authority to regional governments to regulate their own household affairs. Although it is expected to improve the quality of public services and locally-based development, its implementation shows mixed results. This study analyzes various scientific sources in the form of journals, academic books, policy reports, and regulations to identify patterns of success and challenges in the implementation of regional autonomy. The results of the study show that the effectiveness of regional government is greatly influenced by institutional capacity, human resource competence, regional head leadership, community participation, and the ongoing monitoring system. Some regions are able to utilize autonomy to innovate governance, but most still face structural and cultural obstacles. In addition, fiscal dependence on the central government and weak coordination between institutions are obstacles to achieving effectiveness. Therefore, strengthening regional capacity and implementing an asymmetric decentralization model are important to realize effective, accountable, and participatory governance in the era of regional autonomy.

Abstract

Social media has become an integral part of adolescents' lives in the digital era. The use of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp influences the way adolescents interact, form self-identities, and understand social norms. This study aims to analyze the role of social media in shaping adolescents' social behavior, using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and participant observation of 20 adolescents in Jambi City. The results showed that social media has positive impacts, such as expanding social networks and increasing self-confidence. However, negative impacts were also identified, including increased risk of cyberbullying, social pressure, and decreased direct social interaction. These findings emphasize the importance of digital literacy and the active role of parents and educators in guiding adolescents to use social media wisely.

Abstract

In the era of increasingly rapid urbanization, the dynamics of social interaction between residents in urban environments have undergone various significant changes. This study aims to analyze the forms, influencing factors, and challenges and opportunities in social interaction between city residents. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques and participant observation, this study reveals that social interaction in urban environments is characterized by diverse social backgrounds, a fast pace of life, and limitations of space and time. The findings show two main tendencies: increasing individualism and the formation of micro-communities based on common interests. Obstacles such as social inequality, distrust between residents, and lack of public space also limit the intensity of social interaction. However, social media and online communities have become new spaces that expand the forms of interaction between residents. This study recommends the need to strengthen inclusive and locally-based social interaction spaces in urban environments to strengthen the social cohesion of urban communities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and student achievement at the junior high school level. Emotional intelligence includes an individual's ability to recognize, understand, and manage their own emotions and establish interpersonal relationships effectively. In the context of education, emotional intelligence is believed to have a significant influence on learning motivation, stress management, and social interaction in the school environment. This study used a qualitative approach with observation techniques and in-depth interviews with students and teachers in three different schools. The findings showed that students with high levels of emotional intelligence tend to have better learning achievements, characterized by stable academic grades, positive learning attitudes, and the ability to work together with peers. Conversely, students with low emotional intelligence tend to have difficulty in managing conflict, lack focus in learning, and show symptoms of stress that have a negative impact on academic achievement. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening aspects of emotional intelligence in the learning process in order to create a more holistic learning environment and support students' academic success.

Abstract

Children's emotional development is an important foundation in the formation of personality, social behavior, and mental health in the future. Parenting patterns are one of the crucial factors that influence how children learn to recognize, manage, and express their emotions. This article aims to explore the relationship between various types of parenting patterns (authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful) with the emotional development of children from early childhood to early adolescence. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques with ten families from different socio-economic backgrounds. The results showed that authoritative parenting positively contributed to children's emotional regulation, while authoritarian and neglectful parenting tended to correlate with increased anxiety, aggressiveness, and difficulties in social adaptation. In addition, it was found that cultural context and relational factors (such as emotional communication between parents and children) greatly influenced the effectiveness of parenting patterns in supporting children's emotional development. This study suggests the importance of positive parenting training for parents as a preventive measure against disorders in children's emotional development.

Abstract

Post-COVID-19 pandemic, social media usage has increased significantly, especially among adolescents. This trend coincides with the increasing pressure on beauty standards disseminated through social media content such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. This study aims to explore how exposure to social media content affects adolescents’ body image disorders after the pandemic. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with ten adolescent girls aged 15-18 years, this study found that most respondents experienced dissatisfaction with their bodies after consuming content that displayed ideal beauty standards. Pressure to appear perfect, social comparison, and social media algorithms that amplify exposure to similar content are the main triggers for the emergence of body image disorders. This study highlights the need for stronger digital literacy and psychological education to help adolescents develop a healthy relationship with their bodies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of elite impunity in corruption cases in Indonesia shows that there is a sharp gap between ideal legal norms and the reality of law enforcement practices that are full of power intervention. Although legal instruments such as the Corruption Law and the 2023 Criminal Code have normatively regulated sanctions against corruption, their implementation often favors the interests of political and economic elites. The judicial process is often characterized by weak independence of legal institutions, judicial mafia practices, and multiple interpretations of legal articles that open up space for abuse of authority. This inequality not only violates the principle of equality before the law, but also results in the erosion of the legitimacy of legal institutions and a decline in public trust in the democratic system. This study uses a normative juridical approach with critical legal theory analysis to dismantle power relations in the Indonesian legal system. The results emphasized the need for structural reform through strengthening the independence of law enforcement agencies, progressive regulatory revisions, and the formation of a critical legal culture with integrity. Without comprehensive reform, the law will only be a tool for the perpetuation of power, not an instrument of justice. This study recommends a transformation of the legal paradigm in order to ensure substantive justice and prevent the systemic practice of impunity of the elite.
