Abstract

The low science literacy ability for Central Java Province is certainly related to educational institutions that produce prospective science teachers. The better and more mature the preparations are made, the more professional the graduates are produced. The purpose of this study is to reveal the phenomenon that occurs in an Islamic university in Surakarta as one of the producers of prospective MI teachers. The aspects measured include the essence of science and how to learn science. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The findings of this research are distinguished from three major challenges, namely (1) Specialization in the scientific field starts from the selection of science courses that are less accommodating to pay attention to the tendency of interest of prospective MI teachers, (2) the determination of courses should refer to the acquisition of science literacy assessments nationally and the rankings of PISA and TIMSS Indonesia, and (3) It is necessary to provide more intensive debriefing to prospective MI teachers about professionalism competencies.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of the Seuramoe Saientia model, a culture-based science learning model integrating Acehnese local wisdom into ecosystem instruction at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE framework (Analyse, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). The population consisted of 80 fifth-grade students at MIN 2 Langsa, Aceh Province, Indonesia. The implementation phase involved one experimental class comprising 25 students, selected through purposive sampling. The model was designed to integrate the traditional seuneubok land management system into science literacy learning through five instructional phases: Cultural Orientation, Context Exploration, Knowledge Construction, Artefact Creation, and Global Reflection and Expansion. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, observation instruments, science literacy tests, and documentation. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis, while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain calculations, and paired-sample t-tests to determine learning effectiveness. Expert validation confirmed that the model was conceptually valid, culturally relevant, and pedagogically feasible. The effectiveness results showed a significant improvement in students’ science literacy. The mean pre-test score of 61.8 increased to 79.4 in the post-test, with an N-Gain of 0.46 (moderate category). Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference between pre- and post-test scores (t = 5.37; p < 0.05). Additionally, observational findings revealed enhanced ecological awareness, collaborative skills, and the ability to connect scientific concepts with local cultural values. These findings demonstrate that integrating Acehnese cultural practices into science learning effectively improves students’ science literacy while strengthening contextual ecological understanding. The Seuramoe Saientia model offers a validated and empirically supported framework for culturally responsive science education at the primary level.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low connection between science learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and the local cultural context of students, which has an impact on the lack of optimal science literacy. Science learning tends to be abstract and textbook-oriented, while the integration of local Acehnese wisdom has not been structured in the learning design. This study aims to (1) analyse the needs of science learning based on local wisdom in Aceh as the basis for the development of the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model and (2) measure the level of improvement in students' science literacy after the application of the model. The researcher uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects, based on the ADDIE model, comprised 138 grade V students from four MI in Langsa City, who were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments are in the form of observation sheets and science literacy tests (20 pretest questions and 20 posttest questions). The validity of the model was tested using Aiken's V, while the increase in science literacy was analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, effect size, and N-Gain. The results showed that the model had a very high content validity (Aiken's V = 0.96). The Wilcoxon test showed the dominance of positive ratings without a decrease in scores, with an effect size of 0.87 (very large category). An average N-Gain value of 0.72 (high category) indicates a substantial and even increase in science literacy. These findings show that the systematic integration of local wisdom in science learning effectively improves students' science literacy. Implicitly, the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model can be a strategic alternative in the development of science learning that is contextual, inclusive, and rooted in local culture in madrasas

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of pedagogical competence and teaching motivation on teacher performance at public junior high schools (SMP Negeri) in the Buay Pemuka Peliung Subdistrict, East OKU Regency. Specifically, this study aimed to investigate the effect of pedagogical competence on teacher performance, the effect of teaching motivation on teacher performance, and the simultaneous effect of pedagogical competence and teaching motivation on teacher performance. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri in the Buay Pemuka Peliung Subdistrict, East OKU Regency using a descriptive quantitative research method. The sample consisted of fifty respondents, and data were collected using questionnaires. The results indicated that pedagogical competence and teaching motivation each partially affect teacher performance. Simultaneously, both pedagogical competence and teaching motivation influence teacher performance. The contribution of the independent variables, namely pedagogical competence, teaching motivation, and training, to teacher performance was very high, while the remaining influence came from other factors such as skills and expertise, knowledge, work planning, personality, organizational culture, and job satisfaction.
