Abstract

Abstract

The mangrove area is a nutrient-rich zone that serves as a food source for various aquatic organisms and as a spawning and nursery ground for species such as fish, crabs, and clams. The aim of this study is to investigate the morphometrics and growth pattern of blood cockle (Tegillarca granosa) in the mangrove area of Langsa City. Data collection for T. granosa was conducted using purposive sampling at three designated research locations with varying environmental conditions. Transects were established from the shoreline towards the mangrove vegetation at each research location. Within each transect, 1 meter x 1 meter plots were established for T. granosa sampling. The blood cockles found at the research sites were measured for shell length, shell width, and total weight. The research collected 98 individuals of T. granosa at the study location, with morphological variations including length, width, total weight, and sex. The size of the blood cockles ranged from 3 cm to 6.76 cm, the shell width ranged from T. granosa 2.50 cm to 5.52 cm, while the total weight of T. granosa ranged from 12 grams to 122 grams. Based on morphometric analysis, the growth pattern of T. granosa in the mangrove area of Langsa City is characterized by b = 2.5085, falling into the negative allometric category. This growth pattern indicates that the length of T. granosa grows faster compared to its total weight. Location 1 (Lhok Banie) showed the best growth pattern for T. granosa, the least favorable growth was found at Location 3 (Kuala Langsa). In conclusion, the morphometrics of T. granosa at the study site showed significant variation in length, width, and total weight. Morphometric analysis indicates that T. granosa exhibits a negative allometric growth pattern.

Abstract

Poropuntius tawarensis is an endemic fish of Laut Tawar that is currently classified as Endangered according to the IUCN Red List. The decline in its population is caused by habitat degradation, overfishing, and the introduction of alien species that act as predators This study aims to analyze the diversity and distribution patterns the population of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) in Lake Laut Tawar, Central Aceh Regency. Fish samples were collected from four different locations and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener and Morisita indices. The results indicate that the diversity level of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) is classified as a "Low level of diversity," with significant differences between sampling locations. All locations (Hakim Balai Bujang: 0.796845; Toweren: 0.301815; Kelitu: 0.753952; Kala Segi: 0.467728) show a low level of diversity, which is H' 1. Analysis using the Standardized Morisita Index indicates that the distribution pattern of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) in the four study locations tends to be clumped dispersion. This is evidenced by Morisita index values greater than 1 at all sites (Hakim Balai Bujang: 1.2834; Toweren: 1.0212; Kelitu: 1.0053; Kala Segi: 1.0134). These values suggest that the fish tend to concentrate in specific areas within each village rather than being evenly distributed. Keywords:Poropuntius tawarensisLaut Tawar LakeDiversityDistribution Patterns

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates the ecological impact of forest destruction within the Pocut Meurah Intan Grand Forest Park, specifically focusing on its implications for food availability for the avian family Bucerotidae. The research aims to examine the practices contributing to forest destruction within the Tahura ecosystem, analyze the consequential effects of this destruction on the diversity of food sources available to Bucerotidae species, and propose potential solutions to mitigate the identified challenges to Bucerotidae sustenance. Employing an exploratory survey methodology, the research utilizes direct observation techniques to gather data at the study site. Qualitative descriptive analysis is employed to interpret the collected data and draw meaningful conclusions. The distribution of deforestation locations was analyzed using ArcGIS software. The distribution of forest damage is displayed in maps, pictures, and tables. The study results showed that forest damage in the Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan area resulted in forest conversion into plantations, illegal logging, and forest burning for business purposes. There are nine species of bird feed plants in the Bucerotidae family found in Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan. The implications of forest destruction include decreasing the number of bird feed plants of the Bucerotidae family. The species were Ara Hutan (Ficus fistulosa Reinw ex Blume), Beringin (Ficus benjamina L), Empanai (Ficus altassima L), Ndalai (Ficus ampelas Burm.F), Medang (Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C.B. Robinson), Rambai (Baccaurea bracteata Müll.Arg), Walen (Ficus virens W.A.T.). The remaining nine species are dominated by the Moracea family (77%); in addition, there are also plant species from the Euphorbiaceae (14%) and Phyllanthaceae (9%). Ensuring the sustained availability of food plant resources for the Bucerotidae family necessitates a multi-pronged approach; Habitat restoration through the reclamation of degraded forest areas is crucial; Enhancing community awareness regarding the ecological and economic importance of forest ecosystems is essential for promoting sustainable practices; Bolstering surveillance and enforcement within the Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan forest area, through increased monitoring and the active involvement of Forest Police, law enforcement agencies, local communities, and environmental NGOs, is vital to deter illegal activities and protect existing resources; And consistent application of existing environmental regulations is paramount to ensuring the long-term preservation of the Bucerotidae food plant supply. Abstract

Problem-solving skills and learning motivation are essential components of 21st-century education, particularly in biology, where these competencies enable students to connect scientific concepts to real-world challenges. This study investigates the effectiveness of problem-based learning modules integrated with student worksheets in enhancing problem-solving skills and learning motivation on the topic of global warming. Conducted with tenth-grade students at a private high school in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, the research utilized an experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups. A total of 72 students were divided into experimental and control groups. Data collection included problem-solving skills tests based on Polya's framework and learning motivation questionnaires developed using Keller's ARCS model. The results revealed significant improvements in the experimental group, with an average normalized gain score of 77 for problem-solving skills, categorized as high, compared to 22 in the control group, categorized as low. Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated strong learning motivation across all ARCS indicators. A correlation test indicated a very strong relationship between learning motivation and problem-solving skills, with motivation accounting for 74% of the variance in problem-solving performance. These findings underscore the effectiveness of problem-based learning modules in fostering critical competencies, supporting their integration into biology education to prepare students for future challenges. Further research is recommended to extend this approach to other scientific topics and diverse student populations.
