Abstract

This study aims to measure the effectiveness of MLM-STEM on temperature and heat materials on students' critical thinking skills. The research method used in this study is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. Research data were analyzed using normalized average gain, t-test, and effect size. Based on the analysis conducted, it is known that (1) the critical thinking skills in the experimental class are in the high category, while in the control class they are in the moderate category, (2) the critical thinking skills of the experimental class students using MLM-STEM are higher than the control class using electronic textbooks, (3) there is a significant difference between the improvement of critical thinking skills in the experimental class and the control class, and (4) students respond positively to the use of MLMSTEM in learning. Therefore, it can be said that MLM-STEM is a solution to improve students' critical thinking skills. Keywords: multimedia learning modules, STEM, critical thinking DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i2.pp393-405

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of writing task nontraditional strategies in improving students ' Concept mastery and to identify students' selfregulated learning profiles. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with theresearch design Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were allstudents of class VIII at a junior high school in Bandung. The sample in this study consisted of64 students of class VIII at a junior high school in Bandung who were selected using apurposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were mastery of studentconcept tests and self-regulated learning questionnaires. The result of analysis using thepercentage of gain normalized showed that the strategy of writing task non-traditional was moreeffective in improving the mastery of student concepts. The result of descriptive analysis toobtain the self-regulated learning profile of students showed that in the experimental class andcontrol class were mostly in the moderate category. The relationship between mastery of studentconcepts and self-regulated learning profiles based on the results of the correlation test analysisclassified as low criteria.  Keywords: non-traditional writing tasks, concept mastery, self-regulated learning DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i4.pp1561-1571

Abstract

Integrated science learning is expected to be able to prepare students to have 21st century skills, especially literacy skills needed to meet the needs of these students. This research is motivated by the limited number of science teaching materials that are presented in an integrated manner with the theme of Energy and Environment. This study aims to test the feasibility of integrated science teaching materials for seventh grade junior high school students using the ADDIE method. This research was conducted in a private junior high school in Bandung. The instruments used are quality tests and tests of understanding of teaching materials. The validator tested the quality of teaching materials on 2 expert lecturers and 10 junior high school science teachers and the test of understanding the main ideas of the discourse was given to 26 students. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics. The results of data analysis showed that the results of the quality test of teaching materials were 83.51% in the very feasible category and the results of the comprehension test of the main ideas of the discourse obtained 72.17% in the high category. The average quality test and understanding test obtained 77.84%. From this research, it can be concluded that the integrated science teaching materials are appropriate to be used as independent teaching materials that equip reading literacy skills and numeracy skills. Keywords: science teaching material, reading literacy, numerical ability. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i2.pp723-733
