Abstract

Averrhoa bilimbi (bilimbi) contains 10% saponins, 6% tannins, as well as alkaloids, phenols, and flavonoids, which are suspected to have antibacterial properties and can be used as natural food preservatives. To determine the effect of 12% bilimbi marination on the reduction of bacterial counts in broiler and native chicken meat based on variations in storage temperature and duration. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest method. Samples of broiler and native chicken meat were marinated with 12% bilimbi solution and stored at room and cold temperatures for 24 and 36 hours. Microbiological testing was conducted using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method, and data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-test. The highest average reduction in bacterial count was observed in broiler chicken stored at room temperature for 36 hours (68.09%), while the lowest was found in native chicken stored at cold temperature for 24 hours (18.59%). Statistical analysis showed that 6 out of 8 treatments had significant differences before and after marination (p<0.05), while 2 treatments showed no significant difference (p>0.05). Marination with 12% bilimbi extract is effective in reducing bacterial counts in chicken meat, particularly during room temperature storage for up to 36 hours.

Abstract

Abstract

Bronchopneumonia is lobular pneumonia characterized by the presence of infected areas with spots approximately 3-4 cm in diameter surrounding and involving the bronchi. The improper selection of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance and high treatment costs due to prolonged hospital stays. The aim of the study is to determine the appropriateness of antibiotic prescriptions using the Geyssens method. Data collection was conducted retrospectively based on the medical records of inpatients at RS Roemani Muhammadiyah Semarang for the period of April – June 2024. The qualitative analysis of empirical antibiotic prescriptions was evaluated using the Gyssens method. The number of pediatric inpatients with bronchopneumonia who met the inclusion criteria was 109 patients. There were 65 male patients (59.63%) and 44 female patients (40.36%), with the most common age being 2 years old (22%), and the average length of stay was four days. Ceftriaxone is the antibiotic that is frequently used. Evaluation of the appropriateness of prescriptions based on the Gyssens method yielded a total of 146 antibiotic regimens from 109 patients due to the combination of antibiotic use and the replacement of antibiotic therapy during hospitalization. Appropriate antibiotic prescriptions (58.9%) and inappropriate (41.1%).

Abstract

Mathematics learning often poses challenges due to low student interest, resulting in reduced participation and outcomes. This study aims to enhance students' learning interest through the application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by Kahoot. Using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, the study was conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Results showed an increase in students' learning interest from 51% (low) in the pre-cycle to 67% (moderate) in Cycle I, and 81% (high) in Cycle II. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of PBL assisted by Kahoot in fostering interest and engagement in mathematics. Teachers are encouraged to integrate gamified tools like Kahoot and tailor learning strategies to students' needs.
