Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder requiring continuous self-care to prevent complications. Health education plays a crucial role in enhancing patients’ understanding, attitudes, and skills for effective self-management. This study aimed to investigate the impact of health education on self-care behaviors among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest design with a control group. The study involved 60 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) selected using purposive sampling from a public health center. The intervention group received structured health education sessions covering diet management, physical activity, medication adherence, and blood glucose monitoring for a period of four weeks, while the control group received standard care. Data were collected using the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted using paired and independent t-tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The findings showed a significant increase in self-care behavior scores in the intervention group after receiving health education (p < 0.001), while no significant change was observed in the control group (p > 0.05). The mean difference between the two groups indicated that health education had a positive effect on self-care behavior among patients with T2DM. Conclusion: Health education has a significant impact on improving self-care behaviors among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Structured and continuous education increases patients’ awareness, adherence, and ability to manage diet, exercise, medication, and blood glucose monitoring effectively. Healthcare providers should integrate regular health education programs into diabetes management to enhance patients’ self-care skills and prevent complications. Further research with larger samples and longer follow-up is recommended to evaluate the long-term impact of such interventions.

Abstract

Introduction: The growing popularity of social media has positioned influencers as important agents in shaping adolescents’ attitudes, behaviors, and perceptions toward reproductive health topics. Adolescence is a critical developmental period when understanding and confidence regarding reproductive issues are often limited. This study aimed to analyze the influence of exposure to influencer-generated content on adolescents’ positive emotions and self-confidence in the context of reproductive health education. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 100 students, divided equally into intervention and control groups. Data collection instruments included the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) to assess positive emotions and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale to measure self-confidence. The intervention group received reproductive health education through influencer-created social media content, while the control group did not receive any exposure. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test and the Independent T-Test. Results: The findings showed significant improvements in the intervention group across all variables: reproductive health knowledge (p=0.000), self-confidence (p=0.000), and positive emotions (p=0.000). In contrast, the control group exhibited no significant changes, indicating that influencer-based education effectively enhanced adolescents' cognitive and psychological aspects. Conclusion: Exposure to accurate, empathetic, relatable influencer content significantly improved adolescents’ emotional engagement and confidence. Therefore, collaboration among health educators, professionals, and social media influencers is recommended to develop credible, appealing, and youth-centered digital reproductive health communication strategies.

Abstract

Many patients with diabetes mellitus still exhibit low adherence to long-term treatment. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between knowledge and attitude with treatment adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of patients receiving outpatient care at Nur Ichsan Clinic, Makassar City, from January to April 2025. A total of 74 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Research instruments included the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ-24), Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) attitude scale, and the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) for treatment adherence. Each instrument had been validated in Indonesian with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.82 (DKQ), 0.79 (DSME), and 0.85 (DSMQ), indicating good internal consistency. Knowledge, attitude, and compliance scores were categorized as good, fair, or poor based on mean cut-off points obtained from the total score distribution, as the data were normally distributed according to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p = 0.119). Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test, as the data met the assumptions of normality. The results showed that most patients had good levels of knowledge (75.7%), positive attitudes (75.7%), and high treatment adherence (75.7%). There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and treatment adherence (r = 0.614, p < 0.001) and between attitude and treatment adherence (r = 0.587, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that patients with higher knowledge and more positive attitudes are more likely to adhere to treatment recommendations. In conclusion, knowledge and attitude are strongly correlated with treatment adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is recommended that health education programs be strengthened through structured diabetes self-management interventions focusing on knowledge enhancement and attitude change to improve long-term adherence

Abstract

Treatment adherence remains a major challenge in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), particularly in community and primary health care settings. In Makassar, Indonesia, inadequate patient knowledge, negative attitudes toward long-term therapy, and fragmented health education contribute to suboptimal adherence and increase the risk of diabetes-related complications. This community service program aimed to improve treatment adherence among patients with T2DM through an integrated education approach. The program was implemented using a structured, participatory method involving five stages: situational analysis and coordination, participant recruitment and baseline assessment, integrated education intervention, mentoring and reinforcement, and evaluation and reflection. A total of 30 adult patients with T2DM participated in the program. Educational activities were delivered through interactive lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and individualized counseling, focusing on medication adherence, dosage and administration, nutritional support, supplement safety, and the role of micronutrients in diabetes management. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and post-intervention assessments of participants’ knowledge and adherence-related understanding. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in knowledge across all assessed domains following the intervention. These findings indicate that integrated education is an effective strategy for strengthening patient understanding and supporting improved treatment adherence among individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at the community level

Abstract

Nursing-led interventions play a critical role in strengthening primary health care (PHC) delivery; however, empirical evidence on their policy-level impact remains fragmented and under-theorized. This review synthesizes quantitative and qualitative findings to evaluate how nursing-driven strategies influence PHC policy implementation outcomes across diverse health system contexts. A systematic search across five major databases and grey literature sources identified eligible studies assessing the effectiveness, feasibility, and contextual determinants of nursing-led interventions using established methodological frameworks. Quantitative analyses demonstrated that these interventions were associated with enhanced measurable policy compliance, improved continuity of care indicators, and greater alignment with PHC implementation targets. Qualitative synthesis further highlighted perceived patient empowerment, the contextual barriers faced by nurses, and the organizational enablers that shape intervention effectiveness. This review provides an integrative synthesis linking nursing-led interventions to PHC policy adherence, offering a novel framework for evaluating community-based policy outcomes. Findings underscore the importance of context-sensitive implementation and highlight opportunities for strengthening PHC systems through nursing leadership.

Abstract

Introduction: Contraceptive compliance is a key determinant of the effectiveness of family planning programs. Inadequate compliance may lead to contraceptive failure, unintended pregnancy, and reduced confidence in family planning services. Knowledge level is considered an important factor influencing compliance; however, empirical evidence linking knowledge to contraceptive compliance remains limited, particularly in primary health care settings. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge level and contraceptive compliance among family planning acceptors. Methods: A quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at selected primary health care facilities. The study involved 50 women of reproductive age who were active family planning acceptors. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge of contraception, and contraceptive compliance. Knowledge levels were categorised as low, moderate, or high, while the correct and consistent use of contraceptive methods and adherence to follow-up schedules were used to assess compliance. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and chi-square tests, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Results: 44.0% of respondents had a high level of knowledge, 36.0% had moderate knowledge, and 20.0% had low knowledge. Overall, 62.0% of respondents were compliant with contraceptive use. A statistically significant relationship was found between knowledge level and contraceptive compliance (p = 0.012). Respondents with high knowledge levels demonstrated the highest compliance rate (81.8%), while non-compliance was most prevalent among those with low knowledge levels (70.0%). Conclusion: Knowledge level is significantly associated with contraceptive compliance among family planning acceptors. Strengthening structured and client-centred educational and counselling interventions is essential to improve contraceptive compliance and enhance the effectiveness of family planning programs

Abstract

Malnutrition remains a major public health problem, particularly in communities where families have limited access to nutrition information and health services. Family knowledge and daily dietary practices play a crucial role in determining nutritional status, especially among children and vulnerable household members. This community service program aimed to improve family nutrition through community-based education and assistance implemented at a primary healthcare center in Makassar, Indonesia. The program involved 30 family respondents and used a structured five-stage approach: preparation, baseline assessment, nutrition education, family assistance and mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation. Educational activities focused on balanced nutrition, local food utilization, family meal planning, and food hygiene, supported by practical demonstrations and continuous mentoring. The program's effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and post-test assessments of nutrition knowledge, balanced diet practices, and food hygiene awareness. The results showed consistent improvements across all indicators after the intervention, indicating enhanced understanding and adoption of healthy nutritional behaviors at the household level. These findings demonstrate that integrating structured nutrition education with hands-on assistance can effectively translate knowledge into practice. Overall, the program highlights the importance of family-centered and participatory approaches in addressing community nutrition problems. Community-based family education and assistance represent a feasible and sustainable strategy to strengthen family capacity, promote healthy dietary behaviors, and support nutrition improvement within primary healthcare settings

Abstract

Introduction: Introduction: Knowledge sharing is essential for organizational learning and public sector performance, yet hierarchical bureaucratic cultures often inhibit open knowledge exchange. Transformational leadership has been proposed as a critical social enabler, but contextual qualitative evidence remains limited, particularly in Indonesian public sector organizations. Methods: This study employed a qualitative phenomenological design involving 20–25 participants from Indonesian public institutions. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through member checking, peer debriefing, and audit trails. Results: The findings reveal that transformational leadership fosters sustainable knowledge-sharing practices through sequential socio-psychological mechanisms. Psychological safety emerged as the foundational condition, followed by the development of interpersonal trust and intrinsic motivation. These mechanisms institutionalized reciprocal norms that normalized voluntary knowledge exchange. However, hierarchical structures and power distance moderated the strength of these effects. Conclusion: Transformational leadership enhances knowledge sharing indirectly by shaping relational climate rather than through formal authority. Leadership development integrated with cultural reform initiatives represents a strategic intervention to strengthen organizational learning and performance within the public sector and public health systems
