Abstract

The aims of the research are to 1) determine factors that affect the production of sweet potato, 2) to determine the level of allocative efficiency of sweet potato production inputs. The location of this study was determined purposively, in the Subdistrictof Hulu Palik, North Bengkulu Regency with consideration that in Hulu Palik Subdistrict is the biggest producer of sweet potato in North Bengkulu Regency. Census of 92 farmers carried out to gather data on sweet potato farming. Data analysis used multiple linear regression method using Cobb-Douglas production function and allocative efficiency analysis. The results showed that the factors of production of land area of sweet potato seeds and phonska fertilizer had a significant and positive effect on sweet potato production. Results The analysis of allocative efficiency shows the Marginal Product Value of the production factor of land area, sweet potato seed and phonska fertilizer greater than one. This means that the use of phonska production factors for land area, seeds, and fertilizer is not yet efficient

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of volatility and transmission of palm oil prices in the Rotterdam and Belawan markets as well as the price of palm FFB in the markets of North Sumatera and Bengkulu Provinces. This study uses time series data for 120 months from January 2012 to December 2021. In this study, the data analysis method used to analyze the level of price volatility is Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity-Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (ARCH-GARCH) and to analyze the level of price transmission is Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL). The results showed that 1) the price volatility level in the Rotterdam and Belawan palm oil markets was high, 2) palm oil price transmission which is perfectly transmitted both in the short term and in the long term only occurs between the Rotterdam palm oil market and the Belawan palm oil market.

Abstract

This research is aimed at examining the best forecasting model for peanut price and analyzing the spatial market integration of peanuts in Bengkulu province. Monthly data of peanut from 2004:1 – 2013:12 are used for this research and three trend model, i.e., linear, quadratic and exponential trend are applied in which the selection of the best model is based on the lowest value of MAPE, MAD, and MSD. The VAR model of market integration is applied and combined with cointegration and Granger Causality test. This research finds that the best forecasting model is quadratic trend model. This research also concludes that spatial market of peanuts in Bengkulu has already well integrated and each district interplays a peanut price.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes farmers’ understanding of farm commercialization and identifies the factors influencing it in South Bengkulu Regency, a leading rice-producing area in Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. A total of 88 rice farmers were surveyed using structured questionnaires, and data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that farmers’ understanding of commercialization falls within the understanding category (average score: 3.51). Among the indicators, price understanding achieved the highest score (3.93), followed by market orientation (3.70). Risk (3.31) and institutional aspects (3.08) remained relatively low. Regression analysis indicates that formal education, farming experience, access to extension services, rice field type (irrigated vs. rainfed), and land size significantly influence farmers’ understanding (R² = 0.624). These results indicate that both internal factors (education and experience) and external factors (extension, irrigation systems, and farm size) jointly determine farmers’ capacity to understand and apply commercialization concepts. Strengthening non-formal education, enhancing extension services, and supporting farmer institutions are essential to improve farmers’ market orientation. Strengthened understanding of commercialization is expected to increase household welfare and contribute to sustainable agricultural development in the region.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are 1) Analyze what production factors affect rice production in different strata of land area in Bengkulu Province. 2) Analyze the level of input substitution in paddy rice farming at different strata of land area in Bengkulu Province. The location determination method uses Three stages cluster sampling and the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling sampling method, the sample number of 175 rice farmers. The data analysis method used is the cobb-douglass and MRTS production functions. 1) The results of the analysis show that only the land area factor (ha) has a real effect on production in all strata of land area. Meanwhile, in strata III and the combination of factors the use of female labor has a real effect on production, and on the combined land area the use of KCL fertilizer has a real effect on production. 2) Only the combination of male labor to female labor in Strata I is fully substituted with a substitution elasticity (ES) value greater than 1 (≥ 1) while in combination the use of fertilizer inputs is only partially substituted. Meanwhile, in strata II, III, and combined, both the combination of fertilizer inputs and male and female labor are only partially substituted.

Abstract

The involvement of women as rice farm labourers in Pondok Kubang District causes their working time to be divided into productive, domestic, social, and leisure activities, which are measured in hours per week. This study aims to analyse the working time of female rice farm labourers and the factors that influence it, including age, education, number of dependents, previous season's income, head of household income, and work experience of farm labourers. The study was conducted in December 2024 using a census technique on 102 respondents who worked on other people's rice fields. The analysis methods used include analysis of working time and multiple linear regression. The study's results showed that the average working time of female farm labourers in productive activities was 46.03 hours per week, for domestic activities 39.97 hours per week, for social activities 4.94 hours per week, and for leisure time 9.06 hours per week. Simultaneously, all independent variables have a significant effect. Partially, the variables of age, previous season's income, head of household income, and work experience have a significant effect, while education and number of dependents have no effect.

Abstract

Commodity prices, including prices for agricultural products, play a very important function in making decisions both in production and marketing. Therefore, the study of price volatility and transmission is very important to be carried out to obtain price behavior in the market, including coffee prices. This research is aimed at analyzing the volatility and transmission of Indonesian coffee prices at the producer, the national (f.o.b price), and the International level. The data used are monthly data of coffee beans at producer level in Bengkulu province, Indonesia f.o.b prices, and International coffee prices in 2010:1 "“ 2017:12. The ARCH-GARCH method is used to analyze the coffee price volatility, while the ECM method is used for coffee price transmission analysis. The research shows that producer-level coffee prices in Bengkulu Province and International experienced a low price volatility. The transmission of coffee prices from international prices to f.o.b Indonesia price experienced a price adjustment of 13.07% towards the price balance. Meanwhile, the coffee price transmission from International prices to prices at the producer level in Bengkulu Province experienced a price adjustment of 8.93% towards the price balance.
