Abstract

Educational Data Mining provides an effective approach to tackle numerous issues within the education sector, including the capacity to perform predictive analyses regarding student attrition based on academic information. In this research, data from the Open University Learning Analytics dataset (OULAD), which is publicly accessible, has been employed, which encompasses student information collected during online learning. We apply various Machine Learning models, including Decision Trees, Naïve Bayes, Logistic Regression, and ensemble approaches like Random Forest and AdaBoost. Among the models tested, Random Forest (RF) achieved the highest accuracy of 89.37%, along with a precision of 89.57% and a recall of 93.86%, using the data splitting approach. When employing an alternative evaluation model, specifically K-Fold Cross Validation, the maximum F1 score achieved was 9.45%. In summary, the ensemble machine learning algorithm, specifically Random Forest (RF), exhibited strong performance in predicting student academic achievement quality.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Sepsis is a syndrome that can result in multiorgan dysfunction, including acute kidney injury (AKI). AKI is a serious complication of sepsis, and its incidence ranges from 30% to 50%. Newer predictive biomarkers such as serum interleukin-18 (IL-18) are being evaluated as early diagnostic markers with potentially greater sensitivity than serum creatinine. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the usefulness of serum IL-18 levels as a predictive biomarker for AKI in patients with sepsis. METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital and included 68 sepsis patients, 34 with AKI and 34 without AKI. The serum level of IL-18 was measured using the ELISA method. AKI diagnosis was made according to the KDIGO criteria. The Mann-Whitney test, Spearman correlation, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were included in the statistical analysis. RESULTS: The results showed that serum IL-18 levels were significantly greater in the AKI group compared with the non-AKI group (49.88 ± 50.87 vs. 19.89 ± 10.40; p < 0.001). A significant positive correlation was observed between serum IL-18 levels and the risk of AKI (r = 0.505; p < 0.001). ROC analysis revealed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.792 with 82.4% sensitivity and 64.7% specificity at a cut-off value of 23.81 pg/mL. Logistic regression revealed that with each 1-unit increase in serum IL-18, a 7.3% increase in the risk of developing AKI was observed. CONCLUSION: Serum IL-18 has good potential to serve as a predictive biomarker for AKI in sepsis patients, with reasonable diagnostic accuracy.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a Spread-Out Bragg Peak (SOBP) for breast cancer treatment using proton pencil beams Monte Carlo simulation. Proton beams with 2 MeV energy steps from 70 to 110 MeV were simulated using Geant 4 software to generate the SOBP. The optimization tool Linear Least Squares (lsqlin) was used to configure the proper proton beam weighting fraction. This tool successfully produced SOBPs within a depth range of 4-8 cm, 4-6 cm, and 5-7 cm. Comparison against a trial-and-error approach to creating SOBP by a different study shows that Linear Least Squares (lsqlin) approximation leads to a better SOBP.

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring systems are increasingly being adopted across various sectors, including aquaculture. Shrimp farming, in particular, relies on a stable energy supply to operate aeration and water circulation systems. Solar panels offer an efficient renewable energy solution; however, their optimal performance requires continuous and reliable monitoring. This study aims to design and implement an IoT-based monitoring system to track solar panel performance in shrimp farms, thereby enhancing energy utilization efficiency. The system integrates sensors for current, voltage, temperature, and light intensity with a microcontroller and an IoT platform for real-time data acquisition and analysis. The test results demonstrate that the system effectively provides accurate and timely information on solar panel performance, enabling early detection of efficiency losses and prompt maintenance actions. The implementation of this system is expected to increase energy resilience and operational efficiency in shrimp farming operations. By combining IoT technology with renewable energy monitoring, this research offers a practical and scalable solution tailored for remote aquaculture environments. Additionally, the study highlights the feasibility of using low-cost hardware and open-source platforms, making the system accessible for broader application, particularly in developing regions. This contribution supports the advancement of sustainable and energy-efficient aquaculture practices through innovative, technology-driven approaches.

Abstract

Introduction: Helminthiasis remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, negatively impacting nutrition and cognitive development, particularly among individuals who are in direct contact with soil. To mitigate this issue, improving personal hygiene and awareness of infection prevention is essential. This study aims to examine the correlation between sociodemographic factors and personal hygiene with blood profiles among workers in agrarian areas. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was used, with 144 samples collected through purposive sampling in the agrarian area of Malang Regency. Data were gathered using questionnaires covering sociodemographic factors and personal hygiene, as well as through hematology tests results obtained from blood samples taken from respondents, which were tested at the dr. Saiful Anwar Malang General Hospital. For data analysis, the Chi-square test was utilized for bivariate analysis, while logistic regression was employed for multivariate analysis. Results: The mean age of respondents was 48.1 ± 14.1 years, with a majority having attained only an elementary education (51.4%) and primarily working as farmers (66.7%). Approximately 38.2% of respondents demonstrated poor personal hygiene. Significant associations were found between personal hygiene and hemoglobin levels (p=0.031), as well as eosinophil counts (p=0.007). Multivariate analysis showed that respondents who did not wash their hands before eating had 1.8 times higher odds of having abnormal blood profiles compared to those who practiced handwashing. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that sociodemographic factors and personal hygiene are associated with the quality of blood profile among respondents. Enhanced education is needed to raise community awareness regarding personal hygiene.
