Abstract

Introduction: The spreading of COVID-19 has been a disadvantage to all countries around the world. The COVID-19 situation in Indonesia based on the date April 26th, 2021 showed that 44,500 people have died, 1,636,194 cases infected, and 1,492,322 positive cases were declared cured. The COVID-19 can be transmitted through food handlers if they do not comply with health protocols. Perceptions about COVID-19 affect food handler compliance with health protocols. This study aimed to examine the correlation between the perception of food handlers in restaurants and the prevention behavior of COVID-19. Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional design and was conducted between July-August 2020 in 90 food handlers in restaurants in Pontianak City, and data were collected through random sampling. The univariate and bivariate (Chi-Square) were used to analyze the data. Ethical approval was obtained from Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Certificate of approval No. 373/KEPK-FKM/UNIMUS/2020). Results: This study found only three independent variables have significance with prevention behavior of spreading of COVID-19 such as physical activity (p-value 0.011), seeking or getting COVID-19 information (p-value 0.036), and perception of self-efficacy (p-value 0.005). Additionally, the rest of the independent variables have no significance related to prevention behavior of spreading of COVID-19 like sex, education level, economic effect, smoke status, perceived vulnerability, and perception of the hoax information spread. Conclusion: The strongest independent variable is a perception of self-efficacy which means that the food handlers who had a poor perception of self-efficacy tend to do not practice the prevention behavior of COVID-19. The Future studies should address stakeholder role to educate and train the food handlers to increase their self-efficacy in terms of health problems, including COVID-19.

Abstract

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a public health problem that requires serious attention from all parties, including parents, as the frontline in protecting children. This study aims to analyze the correlation between parents' knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy in preventing child sexual abuse in Sambas Regency. The study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional design on parents (n=30), selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test with a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed that 56.7% of respondents had good knowledge and 53.3% had a positive attitude, but 53.3% still had low self-efficacy in preventing child sexual abuse. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and attitude (r=0.518, p=0.003), knowledge and self-efficacy (r=0.587, p=0.001), and attitude and self-efficacy (r=0.378, p=0.039). These findings indicate that higher parental knowledge correlates with more positive attitudes and greater self-efficacy in preventing child sexual abuse. This study suggests developing a comprehensive intervention program that simultaneously focuses on strengthening these three aspects, with a culturally sensitive approach to overcome communication barriers about sexuality.

Abstract

One method to reduce iron content and water turbidity is to use banana peel coagulants and zeolite and clam shell filtration. The biochemical components in banana peels are believed to be effective in reducing turbidity and heavy metals, while zeolites and clam shells function to reduce iron levels in water. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of kepok banana peel ash coagulant (Musa acuminate balbisiana C.) and zeolite and clam shell filtration in reducing turbidity and iron (Fe) content in river water in Punggur Kecil Village, Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design, taking river water samples in Punggur Kecil Village, as many as 27 samples from 9 repetitions. Data were analyzed descriptively with the paired sample t-test statistical test. The results of the analysis showed that river water treatment using banana peel ash coagulant and clam shell filtration and zeolite decreased the average iron (Fe) content from 2.21 mg/l to 0.25 mg/l, with an effectiveness of 88.18%, but there was no significant change. While the average decrease in turbidity levels was from 57.67 NTU to 17.6 NTU, with an effectiveness of 65.56%, the results were also not significant. The results of the paired t-test showed a significant difference before and after treatment in iron content with a value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and turbidity content with a value of 0.003 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study shows a significant difference in iron (Fe) and turbidity levels, but this treatment method has not been effective in reducing the level of turbidity of river water. The conclusion of this study shows a significant difference in iron (Fe) and turbidity levels, but this treatment method has not been effective in reducing the level of turbidity of river water.

Abstract

Many factors contribute to the declining total fertility rate, including family planning programs. The successful implementation of the family planning method might be influenced by how the decision to choose a contraceptive method was made. This study aimed to examine the correlation between family planning decision-makers and modern contraceptive use among married/in-union women of reproductive age in Uzbekistan. The 2021-2022 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey was used by selecting only married/in-union women of reproductive age of 15 to 49 years, totaling 2,794 eligible samples. The modern family planning use variables were divided into not using, using Long-Acting Contraceptives (LAC), and Short-Acting Contraceptives (SAC). The univariate, bivariate (Chi-square and ANOVA), and multinomial logistic regression were performed. Family planning decision-makers from both women and husbands/partners, healthworkers, or others were significantly associated with modern contraceptive use for SAC and LAC, respectively. The type of family planning methods was significantly influenced by decision makers. Spouses, family members, and health workers need to implicate women to decide the most applicable contraceptive method.

Abstract

Anemia is a burden for women of reproductive age (15 – 49 years old) which in Indonesia takes 22.3% of prevalence based on Basic Health Survey data in 2018. Women of reproductive health have different points of view according to their subjective well-being. This study aimed to examine the correlation between anemia status and hemoglobin level related to subjective well-being among women of reproductive age. This cross-sectional study used the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 5 in 2014/15 with a total study sample were 12,818.  Subjective well-being is self-reported data with categories satisfied, somewhat satisfied, and not satisfied. Hemoglobin level is measured by blood test and if the Hb level is less than 12, it will be categorized as anemia. This study tested the analysis of univariate, bivariate (Chi-square and ANOVA), and multivariate (multinomial logistic regression) using STATA version 17.  The findings revealed that anemia and hemoglobin levels did not have a correlation with subjective well-being. However, some other covariates were found significantly associated with having satisfied subjective well-being including being married, pregnant, having poor SES, more than adequate of family life satisfaction, and adequate and more than adequate standard of life, with RRR 1.21, 1.21,0.63, 1.77, 1.19, and 1.74, respectively. It is concluded that subjective well-being is associated with not only health aspects but also social and economic. Intervention in the level of community is needed to improve the quality of life to achieve satisfied well-being. For example by joining the social group at the village level. Future study can include other health-based predictors at individual level that potentially predict subjective well-being.

Abstract

Childhood stunting, or low height for age, continues to be a concern for world health since it raises the possibility of both mortality and growth and development disorders. West Kalimantan province ranks seventh with the highest prevalence of 29.8% by 2021. But little is known about Pontianak's children's stunting risk factors, especially in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima (one of the community health centers with a high prevalence of stunting). The study aimed to determine risk factors associated with stunting in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima, such as high-risk pregnant women, pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency, communication of educational information about stunting, occupancy density, and age of pregnant women in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima. Cross-sectional study design was used. The research was conducted in February-March 2023. The population in this study were all stunted toddlers in the UPT work area of the Pal Lima Health Center. Sampling used quota sampling with all 75 stunted toddlers. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis (chi square test with 95% CI). This research found that 61,3% with high risk pregnant women, 21,3% with chronic energy deficiency, 52%  not exposed to information communication and education about stunting, 32% occupancy density were not qualified, 48% risk at age of pregnant mothers, 32% severe stunting and 68% stunting. There was a significant relationship between high-risk pregnant women (p-value = 0,015), pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency (p-value = 0,001), the information communication and education about stunting (p-value = 0,046), occupancy density (p-value = 0,043), and the age of pregnant women (p-value = 0,049), and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima, West Pontianak District. Based on the results of this study can be used as a basis for the primary prevention of stunting in pregnant women.
