Abstract

Anemia is a burden for women of reproductive age (15 – 49 years old) which in Indonesia takes 22.3% of prevalence based on Basic Health Survey data in 2018. Women of reproductive health have different points of view according to their subjective well-being. This study aimed to examine the correlation between anemia status and hemoglobin level related to subjective well-being among women of reproductive age. This cross-sectional study used the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 5 in 2014/15 with a total study sample were 12,818.  Subjective well-being is self-reported data with categories satisfied, somewhat satisfied, and not satisfied. Hemoglobin level is measured by blood test and if the Hb level is less than 12, it will be categorized as anemia. This study tested the analysis of univariate, bivariate (Chi-square and ANOVA), and multivariate (multinomial logistic regression) using STATA version 17.  The findings revealed that anemia and hemoglobin levels did not have a correlation with subjective well-being. However, some other covariates were found significantly associated with having satisfied subjective well-being including being married, pregnant, having poor SES, more than adequate of family life satisfaction, and adequate and more than adequate standard of life, with RRR 1.21, 1.21,0.63, 1.77, 1.19, and 1.74, respectively. It is concluded that subjective well-being is associated with not only health aspects but also social and economic. Intervention in the level of community is needed to improve the quality of life to achieve satisfied well-being. For example by joining the social group at the village level. Future study can include other health-based predictors at individual level that potentially predict subjective well-being.

Abstract

Stunting is a child's growth and development disorder which is characterized by a lack of nutritional intake, infection, or inadequate stimulation (WHO). Results from the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (INSS), the prevalence of stunted toddlers in districts/cities in West Kalimantan in 2022 reached 27.8%. The figure in Pontianak City, 19.7%, is still higher than the national figure, but has fallen from before. The national target is that the prevalence of stunting reaches 14% by 2024. The aim of this research is to determine the determinants of stunting in Siantan Hulu Village. This type of research is descriptive observational research. The number of samples in this study was 80 respondents, namely households with toddlers aged 24 - 59 months in Siantan Hulu Village. Data analysis using spidegram. The results of the analysis using spidergram showed that the determinants of stunting in Siantan Hulu Village included characteristics of toddlers, exposure to cigarette smoke, health services, immunization history and stunting IEC. Meanwhile, maternal characteristics, early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, household sanitation and water are not significant determinants of stunting in Siantan Hulu Village.

Abstract

Childhood stunting, or low height for age, continues to be a concern for world health since it raises the possibility of both mortality and growth and development disorders. West Kalimantan province ranks seventh with the highest prevalence of 29.8% by 2021. But little is known about Pontianak's children's stunting risk factors, especially in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima (one of the community health centers with a high prevalence of stunting). The study aimed to determine risk factors associated with stunting in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima, such as high-risk pregnant women, pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency, communication of educational information about stunting, occupancy density, and age of pregnant women in the UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima. Cross-sectional study design was used. The research was conducted in February-March 2023. The population in this study were all stunted toddlers in the UPT work area of the Pal Lima Health Center. Sampling used quota sampling with all 75 stunted toddlers. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis (chi square test with 95% CI). This research found that 61,3% with high risk pregnant women, 21,3% with chronic energy deficiency, 52%  not exposed to information communication and education about stunting, 32% occupancy density were not qualified, 48% risk at age of pregnant mothers, 32% severe stunting and 68% stunting. There was a significant relationship between high-risk pregnant women (p-value = 0,015), pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency (p-value = 0,001), the information communication and education about stunting (p-value = 0,046), occupancy density (p-value = 0,043), and the age of pregnant women (p-value = 0,049), and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Pal Lima, West Pontianak District. Based on the results of this study can be used as a basis for the primary prevention of stunting in pregnant women.

Abstract

The results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) showed that the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia has only decreased by 0.1%. The Family Assistance Team (TPK) has made an important contribution to efforts to accelerate the reduction of stunting in society. One of the obstacles faced by the TPK in carrying out its functions and responsibilities in society is the limited capacity of the TPK to accelerate stunting reduction, including at the Segedong Community Health Center. The aim of this service activity is to increase the capacity of the Family Assistance Team (TPK) to accelerate stunting reduction through SIDAK stunting. The implementation method for this service activity uses counseling. Apart from that, the service team also provides aquaponics as a stimulus to empower partner communities to utilize yard land. Abstract

Scabies remains a relevant public health problem in communal settings such as Islamic boarding schools, where crowding and shared daily facilities facilitate transmission. Although various health education activities have been implemented, field observations often show that increased knowledge does not automatically lead to sustained preventive practices. This study aimed to describe levels of knowledge and preventive behaviour related to scabies among female students and to highlight the gap between the two in the context of Nurul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Mempawah District. A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied with total sampling of 69 female students. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire covering knowledge about the cause, transmission, symptoms, and prevention of scabies, as well as preventive behaviours related to personal hygiene, clothing, towels, bedding, and the dormitory environment. Data were analysed descriptively and presented as frequencies and percentages. The findings show that most respondents had good knowledge of scabies, yet only about half demonstrated preventive behaviour in the good category. Risky practices, such as sharing beds and clothing and inconsistent management of clothes and bedding, remained relatively common. These results support the view that knowledge alone is insufficient to ensure consistent preventive behaviour, particularly in crowded environments with limited facilities and strong peer norms. The cross-sectional design, reliance on self-reported data, and absence of formal psychometric testing of the instrument limit the strength of inferences and point to the need for further, more analytical research on determinants of scabies-preventive behaviour in boarding school settings.
