Abstract

This research aims to determine how effective the implementation of online learning is for students. The impact of Covid-19 has led to the implementation of online learning. Online learning has many challenges, including student"™s focus is not effective because the process of delivering material is not done directly or face to face. carried out online learning activities well. This is indicated by student statements, that lecturers can explain the material well and students easily understand it. Lecturers also make good use of technology to support online learning. In addition, students stated "strongly agree" that the lecturer had time to respond to their responses and questions. The results showed that most of the students had been able to use learning tools well to reduce the obstacles that occurred during lectures. Effectiveness becomes a guide for the success of a learning activity. These results show as many as 3.41% of students feel 'enough' with the statement. The author interprets that the informants still do not feel the benefits of the positive impact and also feel the negative impact of this online learning. The author suggests that online learning activities take place interspersed with face-to-face learning approximately one to two times a week. The author also proposes that teachers increase creativity by using learning media that can make it easier for students to understand lecture material.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the language learning strategies used by college students in learning Mandarin as a foreign language to achieve the New HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) standard at Level 3, especially regarding what strategies students used in the learning. The research was a qualitative method with a descriptive case study method involving thirty (30) students. They were students who have studied for one year or two semesters. The results showed that students were aware of the importance of using language learning strategies to master Mandarin as a foreign language, with internal and external factors that support students to learn Mandarin actively. Based on the research results obtained, two strategies often used by the students were direct learning strategies consisting of memory, cognitive, and compensation, and indirect strategies consisting of meta-cognitive, affective, and social. After the students implemented the learning strategy, students' vocabulary mastery for New HSK at level 3 increased by 67%. The most often learning strategy used by the students in learning Mandarin was the meta-cognitive strategy of 90.9% and the cognitive strategy of 66.7%. The percentage of students who have never done memory strategies was only 9,12%, while for social strategies and affective strategies was 3%. It can be concluded that there are several factors affecting students in learning Mandarin, namely internal and external factors.

Abstract

West Kalimantan is a province in Indonesia with the longest border with foreign countries. Therefore, education in these areas must be paid close attention to so that students can obtain optimal learning competency results and master basic literacy and character values as catalysts for understanding, awareness, and attitudes toward the pillars of national and state life. This study aims to determine the practicality of developing a multi-split model based on the hands-on-mind approach that can be used to reconstruct basic literacy and character values in the border areas of West Kalimantan and Malaysia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used was research and development (R&D). The source of the data in this study was obtained from the results of field trials; thus, the practicality of developing a multi-split model based on the hands-on-mind approach observed by two teachers could be seen. The results of the practicality analysis showed that (1) the implementation of learning using a multi-split model based on a hands-on-mind approach reached an average score of 3.23 with good criteria, (2) student activities got an average score for each activity of at least 3.16 with good criteria and (3) the obstacles experienced by students were not familiar with the pattern of the learning process using this model; consequently several student activities could not run optimally.

Abstract

The Effect of Learning Environment and Vocabulary Mastery on Chinese Speaking Skill. Communication is considered one of the human needs, which is pivotal in social interaction. In communicating, the use of language is necessary to understand each other. For students of the Chinese Language Education Department, Universitas Tanjungpura, Indonesia speaking Chinese is encouraged. However, low levels of Chinese speaking skills become the obstacles to speaking the language. In addition, the lack of discipline in learning the language and mastery of Chinese vocabulary were the main problems that students have. Therefore, it was necessary to conduct research on vocabulary mastery and students' Chinese speaking skills. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method and a questionnaire with a Likert scale calculation as a data collection method. The data processing and data analysis used a qualitative interactive model consisting of three stages; data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results revealed that the students' Chinese language skills were still very low. The highest score of HSK was at intermediate level 3 with a percentage of 25% and intermediate level 4 with a percentage of 43%. For HSKK speaking skills, students' skills were only at the basic level of 44% and 56%. From this research, it can be concluded that the low ability of students to speak Chinese was the result of the influence of the internal and external factors of students where the discipline of using the language was still very low. Furthermore, the influence of the family and community environment was also one of the factors that greatly affected students' learning. Keywords: learning environment’s influence, vocabulary mastery, chinese speaking skills.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202218

Abstract

Every student who has entered the final study period must complete the final project/thesis as a graduation requirement. In order to produce quality and responsible writing, students must have the provision of knowledge and how to find, find and determine the correct references and write good citations to avoid plagiarism in thesis writing. The Mendeley application can assist in managing reference sources and writing citations, which can synchronize with the references menu in Microsoft Word. So the PKM team of the Mandarin Language Education Study Program, FKIP UNTAN, provided training on using the Mendeley Application to 20 semester VII students taking thesis writing. Based on the results of the training activities, it can see that 95% of the students who attended the training were able to master the Mendeley application. The obstacle faced in this training was the problem of student laptop devices still using a low version of the Windows operating system, resulting in students needing help installing the Mendeley application. However, this obstacle can be handled thanks to the direction and guidance of the lecturer in the PKM Team. The Mendeley application is relatively easy to learn, understand, and operate, so students will use the Mendeley application as support in completing their final project/thesis.

The research results showed that during observations of learning process, interaction between teachers and students was very lacking and teachers used teaching methods that did not attract students' interestin learning. And also the research results show that the factor that most influences the disengagement of grade 11 students at Santo Fransiskus Assisi High School learning Mandarin is "school environment" factor with a percentage of 33.15%. Meanwhile, the factor that influencesstudents' lack of motivation learning is "achievement value" factor with a percentage of 26.44%.
