Abstract

Arabic language education in Indonesia occupies a distinctive position as both a sacred and heritage language, yet classroom pedagogy remains constrained by grammar-translation methods, exam-driven assessment, and hierarchical teacher–student relations. This article examines the intersections of student voice, teacher professionalism, and critical pedagogy in Arabic classrooms, highlighting their potential to reframe pedagogy in faith-based settings. Drawing on critical pedagogy (Freire, 1970) and democratic professionalism (Sachs, 2001), we synthesize international scholarship with the Indonesian context to propose a context-sensitive framework for integrating student perspectives. The analysis illustrates how curricular reforms (KMA No. 183/2019), digital tools, and dialogical practices create openings for student agency, while cultural hierarchies and exam orientations continue to constrain authentic participation. We argue that student voice in Arabic education not only enhances learner engagement and communicative competence but also reshapes teacher identity toward more reflective and dialogical professionalism. By situating these dynamics in Indonesia, this article offers insights into how student voice, teacher professionalism, and critical pedagogy converge in Arabic language education, extending global debates on multilingual and faith-based pedagogy.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed how students access information, yet many university libraries still struggle to provide services that meet the specific needs of specialized disciplines. This study aims to develop a library service model tailored to the specific characteristics of Sports and Health Science students. The development focuses on leveraging information technology through native applications for Android and iOS. Following a 4-D research and development (R&D) framework, data were collected using three instruments: assessments from subject matter experts, media experts, and students, complemented by in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were processed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel software. Descriptive analysis was employed to outline respondent characteristics, user satisfaction levels, and overall data distribution, while inferential statistical tests, including t-tests and ANOVA, were used to identify significant differences between respondent groups. The research resulted in an IT-based library service product that achieved a high validity score of 4.72 on a 5-point scale. Validity and reliability analysis using product-moment correlation confirmed that all questionnaire items were significantly correlated with total scores (p<0.05). Comparative analysis before and after application implementation regarding learning quality showed significant improvements. In conclusion, the implementation of this IT-based library application is effective in enhancing learning quality.

Abstract

This study explores stand-up comedy as a medium for expressing socio-political issues and examines how political figures respond to such satire in digital media. This study scopes the discourse and power relations in Gibran Rakabuming’s response to Pandji Pragiwaksono’s satire in his Mens Rea show, which was recorded and published on Netflix and Tretan Universe YouTube channel. Previous studies of political satire have focused mainly on the construction of humour. This study fills the gap by examining the strategic responses of targeted politicians. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes micro-level linguistic features through Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) metafunctions, ideational, interpersonal, and textual and examines how language constructs meaning and sociocultural practices through Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), drawing on Fairclough’s framework of representation, relations, and identity. Gibran’s composed demeanor functions discursively as a strategy of political deflection. His serenity, laughter, and simple language transform political criticism into harmless biological humor framed as natural and innocent. This strategy exemplifies ‘soft hegemony,’ whereby politicians employ humor and self-deprecation to diffuse critique and maintain authority. This study greatly advances the field of political discourse by broadening the scope of application of SFL and CDA frameworks to informal digital multimodal interactions, which are usually dismissed as trivial entertainment but are in fact highly complex and sophisticated sites for ideological negotiation and power reproduction.
