Abstract

This study aims to determine the levels of heavy metal mercury (Hg) in the bodies of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fish taken from Lake Rawa Taliwang to enrich the material in Ecotoxicology. This study is particularly useful in protecting consumers from heavy metal contamination when consuming fish. This study was conducted at Lake Rawa Taliwang, located in West Sumbawa. There were two separate stations in the study, namely on the east and west sides of the lake. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fish were caught using gill nets. Three to four fish samples were taken from each station. Each fish sample was then placed in a plastic bag and stored in a sample box. The research samples were then analyzed at the West Nusa Tenggara Health Testing and Calibration Laboratory. Data analysis was carried out by taking fish muscle tissue and analyzing the heavy metal content of Hg using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The wet digestion stage of sample digestion is the process of degrading organic material in the sample using a strong acid, namely HNO3, as a digesting agent. The data obtained is the heavy metal Hg content in ppm (parts per million). The next stage is to process the obtained Hg concentration descriptively and then display it in a table according to the AAS results. The conclusion of this study was that the heavy metal Hg content in Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) originating from Lake Rawa Taliwang to enrich the Ecotoxicology material ranged from 0.044 to 0.086 ppm.

Abstract

Batur sheep produce medium wool, while garut sheep produce coarse wool. Knowledge about wool physical characteristics of both breeds are important due to the potential background forutilization to certain product.  The aims of this research were to indentify and compare wool physical characteristics of batur sheep (WB) and garut sheep (WG). The variables observed including bundle tenacity, elongation, flammability, sound and thermal insulation properties. The comparison data of sound and thermal insulation ability between board (P), board + batur sheep wool (PWB), and board + garut sheep wool (PWG) were designed by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and analyzed by using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) as well as the comparison data of flammability between WB, WG, P and nylon.  The comparison data of bundle tenacity, elongation, sound and thermal insulation properties between board + batur sheep wool (PWB), and board + garut sheep wool (PWG) were analyzed by T-test.  The result showed that WB and WG had no significant difference on their tenacity, resilient, and flammability (P > 0.05).  PWB and PWG had better sound and thermal insulation ability compared than P.  Wol had flammability better than P and nylon.

Abstract

Sheep is one of the livestock commodities that is developed and utilized by farmer to meet the increasing demand of animal protein. This study aimed to investigate physiological responses of local sheep that were kept on different raising system and given different type concentrate. The study used 24 heads of local sheep with an average initial live weight of 19.79±2.47kg. The experiment was set up in a completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor was rearing system (intensive and semi intensive) and second factor was type of concentrate feed (green and comercial concentrates). The parameters observed were heart rate, rectal temperature, respiration rate, differential leukocytes N/L and cortisol hormone levels. The data were analyzed by repeated mensure analysis of variance (repeted ANOVA). The results showed that the type of concentrate did not affect blood profile and cortisol hormone levels. Sheep’s physiological response (respiration rate, heart rate and rectal temperature) were significantly (P0 <0.5) influenced by rearing system.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the compoSItion and distribution of thin-tailed sheep’s carcas tissue fed with green concentrate feed on the different breeding system. A total of 20 female thin-tailed sheep around 1 year old with an average initial weight of 18.3 ± 2.01, intenSIvely and semi-intenSIvely nurture for 119 days. Feed was given in the form of brachiaria humidicola grass and green concentrate with commercial concentrate as a control. Green concentrates and commercial concentrates are given in the morning at 07.00 and grass is given at 11.00, with a ratio of 40:60%. Concentrates were given with different nurture systems was carried out with four treatments, namely five sheep grazed for 6 hours with commercial concentrate feed (SIKK), five sheep grazed for 6 hours with green concentrate feed (SIIZ), five sheep grounded with grass feed and commercial concentrates (IKK), and five sheep are grounded with grass feed and green concentrate (IIZ). The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized factorial pattern with 2×2 treatments and 5 replications with initial weights as a correction factor. The results showed that sheep that were given green concentrates had lower weight, carcass weight, lower fat weight compared to commercial concentrates. However, with semi-intenSIve nurture it produces weight and percentage of muscle that is not much different from sheep that are given commercial concentrates.

Abstract

The presence of endemic species is very important for ecosystem balance, scientific knowledge, and the identity of a region. Philemon buceroides is one of the endemic animals in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). This paper analyzes its ecological aspects on Moyo Island and examines its role in supporting biodiversity conservation efforts. Data collection was conducted using survey and point observation methods across three habitat types: plantations, forest edges, and the interior forest. The data collected included food, habitat vegetation, associations, and predators. The results identified 51 species, of which 56.86% are used as sources of food, resting places, play areas, shelter, and breeding. P. buceroides prefers trees with heights between 10 and 30 meters. Five plant species provide food in the form of nectar and fruit, three species are used for sleeping, and two species are used for nesting. The presence of P. buceroides as an endemic species in NTB plays an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of Moyo Island. Its dependence on various types of vegetation indicates its vital function in forest ecology as well as its potential as an indicator in biodiversity conservation efforts.
