Abstract

This study investigates the role of digital media in enhancing student engagement and learning in Indonesian language education. The research aims to analyze the impact of digital media on three dimensions of engagement: cognitive, emotional, and behavioral. A mixed-method approach was employed, involving surveys of 300 high school students and in-depth interviews as well as classroom observations with 10 Indonesian language teachers from various institutions. Quantitative data revealed a significant increase in student engagement, with average scores of 85% for cognitive, 78% for emotional, and 82% for behavioral engagement after the implementation of digital media. Qualitative analysis supports these findings, highlighting interactive features such as gamification, multimedia resources, and collaborative platforms as key factors driving student engagement. Digital media not only enhances deeper cognitive processing and emotional connections but also facilitates active participation in learning activities. This study underscores the importance of teacher training and institutional support to optimize the use of digital media, thereby creating more dynamic and effective learning experiences in Indonesian language education.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of a mobile-based inquiry learning model with the integration of local wisdom to improve students' academic literacy and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in learning Indonesian in higher education. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The research instrument was validated through expert and empirical testing, resulting in a validity coefficient of r count > r table (0.361), and Cronbach's alpha reliability between 0.86 and 0.89. The results showed an increase in academic Literacy with N-Gain of 0.63 in the experimental group compared to 0.29 in the control group, and an increase in HOTS with N-Gain of 0.60 in the experimental group compared to 0.27 in the control group. The t-test showed a significant difference (t-count 4.28 and 4.02 > t-table 2.00, p < 0.05). Student responses to this learning model were also very positive (88% positive responses). These findings indicate that integrating inquiry models, mobile learning, and local wisdom effectively creates a smart learning ecosystem relevant to the demands of the 21st century and can strengthen critical Literacy, HOTS, and students' cultural awareness.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the speaking difficulties encountered by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners preparing for the national round of National University Debating Championship (NUDC) 2025, after passing on the regional ropund. Employing a qualitative approach, the research analyzed data from observation notes and semi-structured interviews with four debaters from Institut Seni Budaya Indonesia Aceh. The analysis focused on four key themes: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical accuracy, and pronunciation. Findings indicate that these speaking difficulties function as significant barriers that dictate debating performance. Fluency and coherence emerged as foundational requirements; without them, students experienced cognitive overload and total withdrawal. Lexical gaps triggered fragmented performances where logical depth was undermined by low processing speed. While grammatical accuracy was treated pragmatically, it remained essential for maintaining an intelligibility ceiling. Furthermore, pronunciation acted as a critical persuasion driver, allowing speakers to project authority and mask other linguistic weaknesses. The study concludes that the transition from a survivalist speaker to a strategic debater is only possible when learners move past low thresholds in these four categories. These results suggest that pedagogical interventions should focus on linguistic automaticity and cognitive load management to equip EFL learners for high-pressure competitive debating environments.

Abstract

Fishing communities in Indonesia continue to face structural challenges such as weak institutions, limited technical capacity, and restricted market access. This study analyzes a community empowerment program implemented through institutional strengthening, skills development, and digital marketing in the Bunda Saiyo Culinary Tourism Group in Pesisir Selatan Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews. The results indicate notable progress in four key dimensions: (1) institutional strengthening, evidenced by a clearer organizational structure and increased member participation (up by 65%); (2) technical skills, reflected in a 45% increase in product diversification and improved quality standards; (3) marketing, through the adoption of digital platforms that expanded market reach by approximately 40%; and (4) entrepreneurship, demonstrated by members’ higher initiative and the creation of new business ideas. These changes have contributed to an estimated 35–50% rise in monthly turnover and enhanced household income stability. However, limited access to capital and lingering pandemic effects remain constraints. The findings highlight that sustainable empowerment of fishing groups requires an integrated, multi-dimensional strategy combining institutional, technical, and market-based interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of local wisdom into regional policies, particularly concerning the strengthening of herbal medicine in Surakarta City. As a city with a strong Javanese cultural heritage, Surakarta holds significant potential in developing traditional herbal medicine rooted in local values and empirical community practices. The research method employed is library research, involving an in-depth review of academic literature, regional regulations, and relevant policy documents. The analysis was conducted qualitatively using a descriptive-analytical approach to identify patterns of integration between local wisdom, traditional health systems, and regional government policies. The findings indicate that the success of strengthening herbal medicine is strongly influenced by the synergy between the preservation of local knowledge, regulatory support, and partnerships among traditional practitioners, academics, and government institutions. Moreover, the integration of local wisdom into regional policy not only contributes to local economic development but also enhances community health independence. This study emphasizes the importance of culturally grounded yet innovative policies in addressing the health needs of modern society.

Abstract

The increasing number of private vehicles and the limited availability of public transportation in Padang City have prompted the government to introduce a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system through the operation of Trans Padang, including Corridor III, which was officially launched in April 2024. This study aims to analyze the positive and negative externalities of Trans Padang Corridor III as a public transportation system. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through field observations, semi-structured interviews with 17 informants, including representatives from the Department of Transportation, service users, angkot drivers, and the general public as well as document analysis. Data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification, with data validity ensured through source triangulation. The findings indicate that negative externalities include traffic disruptions caused by bus operations on narrow roads such as Jalan Maransi, accident risks, and decreased income for city transport (angkot) drivers due to unequal competition. On the positive side, externalities include increased public access to essential facilities, reduced household transportation expenditures, and the stimulation of microeconomic activity around Trans Padang bus stops. The study concludes that participatory public transport policies based on actual infrastructure conditions are necessary to minimize negative impacts and optimize the socio-economic benefits of the BRT system. Recommendations include regular route evaluations, involving informal transport operators in planning, and improving road infrastructure to support a more inclusive and adaptive BRT operation.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the suboptimal utilization of culinary areas following the relocation of street vendors (PKL), limited public facilities, and weak enforcement of existing policies. The aim of this research is to analyze the governance of the Pantai Padang Culinary Center by the Padang City Tourism Office in supporting the availability of proper public facilities for both residents and visitors. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving nine informants representing government officials, vendors, and visitors. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that while the area’s governance has shown adequate planning supported by regulations and the provision of basic facilities, the organizational process remains suboptimal, and supervision is limited to administrative procedures without a continuous monitoring system. Supporting factors include government policy, initial facility provision, and entrepreneurship training. However, challenges persist, such as vendor resistance, limited supporting infrastructure, and weak field supervision. The study concludes that the governance of the Pantai Padang Culinary Center is not yet fully effective and requires strengthening in implementation and oversight. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for formulating participatory, adaptive, and sustainable policies for culinary area management. Abstract

The high number of uninhabitable houses (Rumah Tidak Layak Huni, RTLH) in Solok City, despite the implementation of the RTLH improvement program since 2017. The research aims to evaluate the implementation of the RTLH Program by the Solok City Housing and Settlement Area Office and to identify the inhibiting factors affecting its execution. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was used, with data collected through interviews, documentation, and observation. Data validation was carried out using triangulation techniques. The findings show that the RTLH program has had a positive impact on improving the quality of housing and the well-being of its beneficiaries. However, the implementation still faces several obstacles, including low levels of community self-help participation, delays in the distribution of building materials, and administrative barriers, particularly regarding proof of land ownership. The study concludes that although the RTLH program is relatively effective and efficient, improvements in supervision, data management systems, and more targeted outreach strategies are necessary to maximize the program’s long-term benefits for low-income communities.
