Abstract

The transformation of the elderly toward active ageing is a crucial issue as Indonesia’s ageing population continues to grow, posing social and economic challenges. Older adults are often perceived as passive and dependent, whereas with the right approach they can remain productive and independent. This community engagement program empowers seniors through the establishment of RUJAK POLO (Rumah Jaringan Usaha Kerja Produktif – Productive Work Network House) as a hub for training, collaboration, and community-based creative enterprise development. The method applied was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving 20 seniors in Argosari Hamlet, Sedayu, Bantul, from problem identification to training in eco-printing and crafts, business management mentoring, and participatory evaluation. Results show significant improvement: 80% of participants produced simple products after training (compared to 25% before). They also gained additional monthly income of Rp150,000–Rp300,000 from local market sales.Beyond economic impact, RUJAK POLO strengthened community organization, self-confidence, and social bonds. The program supports active ageing, aligns with SDGs 8 and 11, and serves as a replicable best practice model.

Abstract

The community service program "Becoming a Beneficial Person: Character Education for Youth and Society" was implemented to address the declining public understanding of the purpose of life, which is oriented towards the value of usefulness. Modernization, individualism, and the influence of technology have caused adolescents and adults to increasingly distance themselves from the values of caring, empathy, and social responsibility. This community service activity was conducted at the Al-Amanah Mosque in Pilahan, Rejowinangun, Kotagede, using an educational, participatory, and empowerment approach. Implementation methods included interactive lectures, group discussions, consultations, self-reflection, and the formulation of commitments to action. Evaluation was conducted through observation and pre- and post-test questionnaires. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the essence of life's purpose; 100% of participants reaffirmed their understanding of the importance of being a beneficial person. Furthermore, 57% of participants acknowledged challenges in behavioral consistency, but all demonstrated a strong commitment to change and contribute positively to their social environment. This activity proved effective in building awareness, strengthening motivation, and revitalizing the mosque's role as a center for character education. This program has the potential to be developed through further mentoring, community collaboration, and the provision of more systematic character education modules.

Abstract

Violence in the name of religion often occurs around us. According to several research results, one of the reasons is the lack of knowledge about religious moderation. Moderate behavior in religion needs to be encouraged from an early age, especially in junior high school. Junior high school students are in an ambiguous stage of development, between childhood and adulthood, so they need to internalize good social and humanitarian values. This study aims to explore the process of internalizing the values of religious moderation in junior high schools carried out by Islamic Religious Education teachers. The method used is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data sources from Islamic Religious Education teachers, other religious teachers, Muslim students and students of religions other than Islam. The process carried out by Islamic Religious Education teachers includes three stages: pre-learning, reinforcement learning, and the internalization stage. Each stage is carried out carefully by Islamic Religious Education teachers supported by the entire school community. Through three stages of internalization of the values of religious moderation carried out in this school, the impact was that there was no violence in the name of religion carried out by students, teachers and education staff. The three stages of the process of internalizing the values of religious moderation carried out by Islamic Religious Education teachers are worthy of being adopted and duplicated in other places.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Berirama (Worship Diligently and Breakfast Together) habituation program at Kasongan State Elementary School, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, students, and parents. The findings indicate that the Berirama program is implemented systematically, in a structured and sustainable manner through congregational Dhuha prayers, dhikr, Qur’an recitation, and breakfast activities conducted before the learning process begins. The program has evolved beyond a school routine into a process of character building through religious habituation and healthy lifestyle practices. Muslim students participate in congregational worship activities, while non-Muslim students receive spiritual guidance according to their beliefs. The implementation is supported by school policies, teachers’ involvement, and active parental participation. This program contributes to establishing a disciplined school culture, improving students’ learning readiness, and shaping sustainable character development through an integrated model combining spiritual, social, and health dimensions.
