Abstract

The impact of Covid-19 in general has influenced many changes, especially in the socio-economic sector which affects changes in aspects of human daily life. The rate of the Indonesian people's economy which tends to decline is one aspect of change during the Covid-19 pandemic. Changes in the rate of the economy have made it difficult for people to meet their basic needs such as clothing, food, shelter and education for children. The purpose of this study is to describe the adaptation strategies carried out by fishing communities in an effort to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this study is a case study with a qualitative approach. The process of collecting primary data in this study is through in-depth interviews with 10 informants. In addition to collecting primary data, it is also necessary to collect secondary data related to the general description of the area and the development of the landscape of Trenggalek Regency and Munjungan District to determine the characteristics of the coastal area. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed related to the characteristics of the Munjungan community in general and the adaptation strategies of the fishermen of Blado Beach. The results of the analysis are formulated in a solution to provide solutions to the problems being faced by fishermen after the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the discussion stated that some fishermen chose to change their livelihoods or do side jobs such as farming and livestock activities. Some fishermen still choose to go to sea even though they have to face fear because of covid-19. The role of stakeholders is important for fishing communities with various policies that have been implemented in order to revive the hampered economy.

Abstract

Karst plays an important role in ecology. However, currently, karst areas in Indonesia are experiencing vulnerability. This study aims to examine the livelihood strategies of households around the karst area. The research was conducted in Leran Wetan Village, Palang District, Tuban Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. This research seeks to complement the Sustainable Lifelihood Framework by using the concept of habitus presented by Bourdieu. The main livelihood strategy of the community remains linked to the agricultural sector, especially as farmers or farm laborers, although agricultural mechanization and traditional institutional changes have occurred. Ecological vulnerabilities, such as flooding, trigger changes in livelihood strategies, including working in other sectors. Although there are limestone mines as a new source of livelihood, they are only enjoyed by a small part of the community. The livelihood strategy taken is influenced by the social construction of actors in interpreting karst areas. These findings further confirm that livelihood strategy is a social practice.

Abstract

This article aims to explore rural women's agency by focusing on lived experiences in perceiving and navigating the intersecting challenges of poverty and patriarchal structure in their everyday lives at the Kendalrejo Village-Pemalang Regency, Central Java. Ten low-income women were purposively sampled and invited to in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), which allowed them to share detailed narratives of their lives. Using a narrative inquiry approach, the research portrays that despite the injustice and discrimination experienced by women in the domestic and public sphere, they managed to negotiate, actualize, and participate. This underscores another finding about the trajectory, shifting, and dynamics in rural settings regarding women’s experiences in the face of pervasive male dominance norms and the harsh realities of economic adversity. Toward a unique narrative of women, this study is crucial for providing meaningful policies and intervention recommendations to support women living in the rural realm.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is the fourth largest populated country in the world. In this country, information can easily spread among people on the internet, whether it is valid information or a false one. Although there is a specific law about information and electronic transaction, people still produce and distribute information without the awareness of the risk. Spreading fake news, especially related to the Covid-19 issue resulted in excessive public reaction or panic because people tend to spread disinformation widely on social media. This has the amplification effect of fears caused by uncontrolled information. Covid-19 fake news in Indonesia has spread out significantly because people are reluctant to read, and most people have low information literacy. The activity aimed to prevent the spread of disruptive information in Indonesia. The activities applied the Penta-helix approach which collaborates several elements: the women's community, communication media, academician, and governments in overcoming disruptive information. 37 participants were from gender study centers across Indonesia. The results are virtual workshops and implementation activities on information literacy. Key persons from each women's study center in all regions of Indonesia attended virtual workshops to strengthen their information literacy skills. Having information-literate key persons, it is proved that the spreading of hoaxes can be reduced. This will support the community in Indonesia to be smarter and wiser in coping with Covid-19 related information. The participants hope that activities to increase information literacy for the Indonesian people can be sustained so that an information-smart society is realized in everyday life.

Abstract

Limited access and a strong patriarchal culture in rural Indonesia remain efficacious factors that limit women's choices and participation in the public domain. The reality of gender injustice many women experience has been at the heart of feminist struggles since the 19th century. With a qualitative approach, this study aims to identify and analyze feminist values implemented by the "Kartini Corner" program in Kendalrejo Village, Pemalang Regency (Central Java). Data collected through documentation and literature studies were analyzed using Nancy Fraser's feminist framework: recognition, redistribution, collective action (solidarity), and women's empowerment. The study demonstrates that "Kartini Corner" was able to facilitate women's aspirations and participation through their active and meaningful involvement both as participants and committee members. The series of activities in this program manifested the strategy of implementing gender mainstreaming, which in this case was integrated with the Sustainable Village Development Goals (SDGs Desa). This study makes a significant contribution to the contextual feminist discourse in rural Indonesia by presenting an analysis based on Nancy Fraser’s feminist theory within a local community program. In addition, the research provides empirical evidence that local initiatives such as Kartini Corner can serve as a means of social transformation that empowers rural women to actively participate in the public sphere.
