Abstract

Introduction: Self-control and self-effi cacy are necessary for would-be mothers to enhance their birth labor satisfaction. This research was conducted in Ratu Zalecha public hospital in Martapura and in Banjarbaru public hospital in South Borneo with the aim to identify the relationship between self-control and self effi cacy on the one hand, and birth labor satisfaction on the other hand. Methods: Cross-sectional approach with correlative analysis was applied for this research, using 125 samples chosen from normal childbirth using consecutive sampling techniques. Results: The result of Chi-Square correlation test showed that there were some relationships between self-control as well as self-effi cacy and birth labor satisfaction (ρ value 0.002,α: 0.05) and (ρ value 0.000, α: 0.05). There were four variables resulted from double logistic analytical regression that play signifi cant roles in birth labor satisfaction, i.e., self-control, self-effi cacy, family income, and parity. Conclusion: The most infl uencing variable in birth labor satisfaction was family income. Labor carers should provide enough support so that would-be mothers can view the process of childbirth as a positive and pleasant experience; hence, birth labor satisfaction will surely be tremendous. Keywords: birth labor satisfaction, self-control, self-effi cacy

Abstract

Introduction: Cancer treatments often comes with varying adverse effects on both functional and physiological status of cancer patients, such as reduced kidney function, necessitating haemodialysis. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of therapeutic regimen education on the treatment self-efficacy of cancer patients undergoing haemodialysis. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method, involving 136 participants divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group was given therapeutic regimen education that lasted for 4 weeks. The self-efficacy score was measured before and after intervention in both groups. Pre- and post-intervention scores were measured using the Chronic Kidney Disease Self-Efficacy instrument (r = 0.845). Paired t-test and independent t-test were used, respectively. Results: The results show that the patients who received therapeutic regimen education had significant increases in self-efficacy scores (p < 0.001). The mean (SD) score for all sub-variables increased after treatment: autonomy, from 15.07 (4.29) to 26.50 (1.74); personal integrity, from 11.63 (3.92) to 23.68 (2.59); problem-solving, from 10.66 (3.98) to 18.85 (0.82); and seeking social support, from 7.13 (2.38) to 14.06 (1.62). From the statistical test results, a significant difference in each dimension of self-efficacy was found between before and after treatment (p < 0.001). When the post test scores between intervention and control were compared, it showed significant different between them (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Therapeutic regimen education can increase treatment self-efficacy in cancer patients undergoing haemodialysis treatment, which can affect the patient’s healing process. Abstract

Introduction: Cancer and its treatments negatively affect patient sexual health. However, this aspect is often neglected in cancer care. As holistic care providers, nurses have a pivotal role in addressing their patient’s sexual health problems. This study aims to summarize what is currently known about nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice when helping cancer patients with concerns regarding their sexual health and recent educational strategies to enhance the nurses’ competencies in relation to cancer patients’ sexual healthcare. Methods: The authors conducted a systematic review using PRISMA 2020 Guidelines. The articles were derived from five electronic databases (Scopus, Science Direct, ProQuest, MEDLINE, and PubMed), consisting of full text original research articles published between 2015 and 2024 using quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods. Review articles, books, and book chapters are excluded. Results: The initial search resulted in 1,126 articles. Thirteen articles that met the selection criteria were included due to having good methodological quality. The nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice toward sexual healthcare was found to be moderate. Nurses argued that they need specific knowledge and skills to confidently address sexuality problems among their patients. Educational interventions were effective at helping to improve the nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and skills on sexual health care provision. Conclusion: Institutional and educational support are important factors for mastering the nurses' ability to provide comprehensive sexual healthcare. A clear policy, sufficient facilities and comprehensive strategies are needed to mediate consistent cancer patient sexual healthcare provisions.

Abstract

Introduction: Neutropenic fever is commonly found in children with leukemia after chemotherapy. Fever occurs when children's immunity decreases after chemotherapy, and they are prone to infection. This study aims to describe the cultural care behaviors of multidisciplinary health workers in preventing neutropenic fever among hospitalized children with leukemia after chemotherapy. Methods: An ethnonursing study was conducted at a cancer referral hospital in Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through observation in two Pediatric ward and chemotherapy unit for three months and FGDs and in-depth interviews with health workers who provided care services to leukemia patients post-chemotherapy. Data were collected from 14 informants: six nurses, four doctors, two clinical pharmacists, and two nutritionists. This study employed four phases of Leininger analysis for qualitative data to develop its thematic structures. Results: The analysis of the entire data has revealed five themes: (1) performing antiseptic and aseptic techniques consistently, (2) nurse and dietician collaboration in handling eating difficulties post-chemotherapy, (3) collaborative interactions interdisciplinary in handling medication, (4) patient placement in an isolation room adjusted to patients' conditions, and (5) nurse's challenge to educate patients and their families. Conclusions: Health workers from multiple disciplines play essential roles in preventing neutropenic fever by involving patients, parents, and other family members. It is necessary for the nurses to collaborate with other healthcare professionals and educate patients, and families to participate in the care interventions for these patients in minimizing the occurrence of infection among leukemia patients.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to investigate whether the FACIT-Sp-12's measurement properties yield the most accurate spiritual data for cancer patients. Methods: This systematic review examined full-text studies written in English and involving patients with cancer published between 2000 and 2024, using cross-sectional, randomized controlled trials, case-control, and quasi-experimental designs. This study used the MEDLINE (PubMed and EBSCO), ScienceDirect, Scopus, Taylor and Francis, and selected ProQuest databases. We assessed the papers methodically using the PRISMA flow before reviewing ten of them. The Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments tool has been used for evaluating the review articles. Results: We found that various studies on spirituality in cancer patients conducted in different countries have employed diverse research methods. All these studies used the FACIT-Sp-12, which has been modified and adapted for cultural contexts. Cronbach's alpha ranges from 0.70 to 0.91, indicating that FACIT-Sp-12 is consistent across studies. COSMIN has been used to evaluate and critique FACIT-Sp-12; however, its structural validity, Cronbach's alpha for the subscales, intraclass correlation, and measurement error remain unsatisfactory. Some publications examine hypotheses and provide satisfactory responses, but there is little discussion on criterion validity or cross-cultural adaptation. Conclusions: We determined that patients with cancer could use the FACIT-Sp-12. This study suggests using the FACIT-Sp-12 spiritual assessment tool for cancer patients in research and nursing care.
