Abstract

Stroke can cause swallowing disorders (dysphagia) which have an impact on the patient's quality of life. This study aims to analyze the effect of shaker workout therapy on swallowing ability in stroke patients with dysphagia. The RAPIDS scale (Royal Adelaide Prognostic Index for Dysphagia Stroke) was used to measure the level of swallowing difficulty before and after therapy. Four stroke patients who met the inclusion criteria underwent shaker exercise therapy for three consecutive days. The results showed an increase in RAPIDS scores in all respondents, which indicated improved swallowing ability. In patients who previously experienced moderate to severe dysphagia, this therapy was successful in reducing the level of difficulty swallowing and increasing tolerance to food. This study concluded that shaker exercise is effective in improving swallowing function in stroke patients with dysphagia, and can be used as rehabilitation therapy to reduce the risk of aspiration and speed up recovery.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is classified as a chronic metabolic illness that has the potential to produce several complications, with peripheral neuropathy being among the most common. Peripheral neuropathy is characterized by sensory disturbances such as tingling, burning sensation, pain, and numbness in the lower extremities, which, if left untreated, may progress to diabetic foot ulcers and even amputation. One of the non-pharmacological interventions to prevent and reduce neuropathy is foot exercise, which improves blood circulation and enhances peripheral nerve function. To determine the effect of foot exercise on neuropathy levels among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Colomadu II Primary Health Cente: The research adopted a quasi-experimental method with a pretest and posttest control group design. A total of 68 respondents were recruited using purposive sampling, consisting of 34 respondents in the experimental group and 34 in the control group. The intervention was carried out for 3 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week, lasting ±30 minutes per session. Neuropathy levels were measured using the Toronto Clinical Scoring System (TCSS). Data were analyzed utilizing paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test.The outcomes revealed a significant decrease in neuropathy levels in the experimental group, with the mean score decreasing from 10.56 before the intervention to 7.21 after the intervention (p = 0.001). In contrast, the control group showed no significant changes (p = 0.162). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups after the intervention (p = 0.001 < 0.05). Foot exercise has a significant effect in reducing neuropathy levels among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Foot exercise can be recommended as a simple, low-cost, and practical non-pharmacological intervention that patients can perform independently to prevent diabetic neuropathy complications.

Untuk keberlanjutan, diperlukan pelatihan berkala serta pendampingan lebih intensif. Saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya adalah memperbaiki manajemen waktu untuk meningkatkan efektivitas intervensi.Abstract: Mental health disorders often accompany chronic diseases, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality. Aisyiyah cadres, as the spearheads of health promotion, play a strategic role, but their understanding of mental health and chronic diseases still needs to be improved. The objective of this community service is to improve the knowledge and skills of Aisyiyah cadres in mental health screening and management for chronic diseases through intensive training. The implementation method includes three stages: preparation (coordination with the Kartasura Community Health Center and preparation of materials), implementation (education, DASS-21 training, relaxation techniques, and brain gym), and evaluation (pre-test and post-test). Participants consisted of 47 Aisyiyah cadres with varying ages and educational backgrounds. The results showed an increase in knowledge from 55.3% (good category) in the pre-test to 61.7% in the post-test. The conclusion of this activity is that the training is effective in increasing cadres' understanding of mental health and chronic diseases. For sustainability, regular training and more intensive mentoring are needed. Suggestions for future research include improving time management to increase the intervention's effectiveness.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that requires long-term management through pharmacological therapy and adherence to self-care. Non-compliance with self-care can lead to uncontrolled blood glucose levels and increase the risk of acute and chronic complications. Health education is one nursing intervention that can improve self-care adherence in DM patients. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of implementing self-care education leaflets in improving self-care adherence among DM patients. This study used a case study design with a pre-post monitoring approach. Respondents were three DM patients selected purposively. The intervention, in the form of self-care education using leaflets, was administered once, followed by three monitoring sessions on October 24, 26, and 28, 2025. The instrument used was the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA), which assesses four aspects: diet, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, and foot care. The data analysis was descriptive, comparing SDSCA scores and Random Blood Sugar (RBS) levels before and after the intervention. Pre-test scores were obtained during the first evaluation, before respondents received self-care education through leaflets. Post-test scores were assessed through the second and third evaluations after the intervention. Changes in adherence were identified by increases in SDSCA scores for each respondent, while decreases in RBS levels evaluated glycemic control during the monitoring period. The results were presented in tables and narratively interpreted to describe changes in self-care behaviour and blood glucose levels after the educational intervention. Self-care adherence scores increased among all respondents following education. SDSCA scores increased from poor to adequate, then to good. This increase in adherence was accompanied by a gradual decrease in GDS levels at each evaluation. Self-care education using leaflets, accompanied by SDSCA monitoring, was effective in increasing self-care adherence and improving glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus.
