Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach on enhancing fifth-grade students' understanding of plane figure perimeter concepts at SD Muhammadiyah 4 Malang. Employing a quantitative method with a pretest-posttest design without a control group, data were collected through written tests and project-based evaluations using an assessment rubric. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the students’ average posttest score compared to the pretest score, indicating that the PjBL approach effectively increased conceptual understanding (p < 0.05). Item analysis showed that the difficulty index fell within the moderate category (0.5–0.8), with most items demonstrating good discrimination power (above 0.3). The instrument's reliability, indicated by Cronbach’s Alpha, was 0.903, reflecting excellent internal consistency. Project assessment results recorded an average score of 91.2, categorized as "Very Good," which shows that students were able to creatively and collaboratively apply the perimeter concept to real-life contexts. These outcomes demonstrate that PjBL effectively promotes students' conceptual understanding while simultaneously supporting the development of essential 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Inclusive higher education is essential for ensuring equitable access to learning, particularly for students with disabilities. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides a flexible instructional framework that accommodates diverse learning needs and promotes inclusion. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA model, using the Watase Uake application to identify and analyze scholarly works related to UDL implementation in Indonesian universities. Findings reveal that UDL positively impacts the academic experience of students with disabilities. Notable benefits include improved engagement and academic outcomes, with some cases reporting up to a 20% increase in student achievement. Effective strategies identified include flexible content delivery, adaptive assessment methods, and technology-enhanced instruction. However, several barriers persist, including limited faculty training, inadequate infrastructure, and high implementation costs. These were highlighted through qualitative insights and quantitative staff surveys. The results underscore the need for targeted interventions to overcome implementation challenges. The study proposes strategic measures such as comprehensive lecturer training, investment in multimodal learning tools, and more inclusive evaluation systems. This review offers practical recommendations to enhance UDL adoption in Indonesian higher education. By addressing current challenges, institutions can create a more inclusive academic environment that supports all learners, especially students with disabilities.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a persistent character challenge in its education system, reflected in bullying and declining student well-being. Although character education is a national priority, evidence on practical approaches remains fragmented. This study synthesises research on character-strengthening approaches for Indonesian school students and maps the research landscape in the digital era. We conducted a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines and used the PICOS framework to define eligibility and guide screening. We searched Scopus for studies published between 2015 and 2025. The included studies (n = 33) were synthesised descriptively, and bibliometric patterns were visualised using VOSviewer. The synthesis indicates that the literature consistently emphasises collaboration and holistic learning as foundations for character development, often integrating local wisdom and religious values. Frequently discussed approaches include project-based learning, positive school culture initiatives, and school–family–community partnerships. However, implementation is repeatedly described as constrained by gaps between policy and classroom practice, limited teacher capacity, and weak school ecosystems, especially under pressures from digital environments.  Overall, character strengthening in Indonesia is best understood as an ecosystem effort that requires coordinated roles across schools, families, and communities. We recommend strengthening teacher capacity for integrative pedagogy, embedding collaborative values in daily learning, and developing sustainable evaluation mechanisms to monitor character outcomes.

Abstract

Authentic assessment holds a crucial role in modern biology education as it supports competency-based evaluations that enable students to apply scientific knowledge in real-world settings. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of research trends on authentic assessment in biology learning using data from the Scopus database. Employing a quantitative approach, the study analyzed the temporal distribution, international collaboration, dominant keywords, and thematic evolution from 39 selected articles through tools such as co-authorship network analysis, keyword co-occurrence mapping, and thematic evolution analysis. Results indicated a significant rise in publications since 2018, peaking during the COVID-19 pandemic due to shifts in assessment methods for online learning. The disciplinary distribution showed a predominance of social sciences (26.1%) intersecting with biology and environmental science. The United States and the UK emerged as leading contributors, with support from institutions like the National Science Foundation. Keyword analysis identified two major clusters: animal-based assessment (motor theme) and molecular biology (emerging theme). However, the literature showed limited representation from developing countries and minimal exploration of advanced technologies. This study contributes by (1) mapping scientific developments in authentic assessment research, (2) offering a bibliometric analysis protocol applicable to similar areas, and (3) suggesting future directions including global collaboration, validation of long-term instruments, and focus on niche topics like biodiversity-based assessments. The findings offer practical implications for designing context-responsive assessment guidelines. Nonetheless, the study is constrained by its reliance on Scopus and English-language sources, potentially excluding other relevant contributions.

Abstract

Holistic performance assessment is an assessment approach that focuses not only on work outcomes, but also on the process, potential, and personality and social aspects of employees in the context of basic education. This study aims to analyze the application of holistic performance assessment as an instrument for employee competency development at SDN Rampal Celaket 1 Malang City. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of school principals, teachers, and education staff. The results of the study show that holistic performance assessment is able to provide a comprehensive picture of employee performance through the integration of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The application of this assessment contributes to the improvement of employees' professional, pedagogic, social, and personality competencies through reflective feedback and continuous development planning. In addition, the assessment process involving active participation between assessors and employees encourages a collaborative, transparent, and work-oriented work culture that is oriented towards improving the quality of educational services. The main obstacle found is the limited understanding and consistency of the implementation of assessments in the field, so continuous training and assistance are needed for schools. Thus, holistic performance assessment can be used as a strategic instrument in educational human resource management to build adaptive, reflective, and competitive employee competencies, in line with the demands of 21st century education transformation.

Abstract

Variations in institutional quality indicate the absence of a coherent and standardized framework for defining school excellence. Muhammadiyah has extensive contribution schools in Indonesia. Offers an integrative Outstanding School Model of Muhammadiyah as a strategic framework for achieving a golden standard in future-oriented education. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of Islamic values and future competencies into a unified Outstanding School Model of Muhammadiyah, which is further aligned with a real-world school evaluation system to establish a standardized framework for educational excellence. This study employs a qualitative design-based approach by integrating systematic literature review and document analysis to develop an Outstanding School Model of Muhammadiyah. The findings reveal that, although the MFS instrument is structurally comprehensive, it remains conceptually fragmented. Through thematic and quantitative analysis, its components are reorganized into four core dimensions: academic excellence, Islamic character (Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan), future skills, and institutional quality. The results also indicate an imbalance in indicator distribution, with a strong emphasis on institutional aspects and limited integration of future-oriented competencies. The transformation of an existing evaluation system into a coherent and integrative framework that aligns Islamic educational values with global competencies. Furthermore, the model is aligned with SDG 4 Quality Education, reinforcing its relevance within global educational discourse. This study contributes by providing a standardized reference for improving school quality and guiding the development of Muhammadiyah education toward a sustainable and future-ready paradigm.
