Abstract

A notable lacuna in the literature exists regarding research on Islamic theological education in Southeast Asian pesantren. This current state underscores the imperative for comprehensive investigation, particularly through the application of comparative analyses of pedagogical approaches. The present study comparatively analyzes how pedagogical approaches, institutional factors, and theological orientations shape Islamic theology instruction in Indonesian and Malaysian pesantren. A comparative case study was conducted in one pesantren from each country, utilizing semi-structured interviews with eight participants (heads, teachers, senior students) and document analysis, with data analyzed thematically. Findings indicate Indonesian pesantren prioritize traditional, memorization-based methods and theological conservatism due to institutional autonomy. At the same time, Malaysian counterparts adopt structured, curriculum-based approaches influenced by state involvement and national standards. The study highlights how both contexts negotiate orthodoxy and modernity differently, offering implications for developing culturally grounded and pedagogically responsive Islamic theological curricula and teacher training.

Abstract

English Self-regulated Language Learning on Youtube: Students’ Purpose, Perception, and Action. Objective: This study scrutinizes English learners’ self-regulated language learning using Youtube beyond the formal classroom. Methods: to reach the objective, a qualitative inquiry approach was employed in this study. Twenty-two university students in Central Java province Indonesia who had substantial experiences of watching English-teaching videos were purposively invited for a semi-structured interview to depict how they performed self-directed learning. The data were qualitatively analyzed by classifying based on the main themes, coding, reviewing, and conclusion drawing Findings: the results portrayed that the most dominant goals of self-directed language learning on Youtube were to look for more learning sources, to enhance English skills and vocabulary, and to explore cultural knowledge. Another finding showed that learning English on Youtube was more interesting and flexible without time and space restriction. Conclusion: Youtube videos offers a fertile ground for educational purposes, particularly for developing English skills in a self-directed learning beyond formal classroom. Keywords: english-teaching on youtube; self-regulated language learning; informal learning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202218

Abstract

Penelitian ini berupaya meneliti tentang literasi Al-Qur’an Lokasi penelitian ini di SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta, Lembaga pendidikan yang menanamkan pendidikan karakter, sekolah swasta yang diselenggarakan oleh Majelis Dikdasmen PDM Surakarta. Lokasi penelitian di SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. mengkaji upaya peningkatan nilai karakter religius peserta didik melalui pembiasaan Literasi Al-Qur’an. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi dan wawancara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan metode deskriptif kualitatif, pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan cara menyusun kerangka terlebih dahulu sebagai persiapan awal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa indikator keberhasilan Literasi Al-Qur’an dapat dilihat apabila siswa membaca Al-Qur’an dengan baik, menghafal minimal 30 juz, memahami apa yang dipelajari serta dapat mengaplikasikan kehidupan sehari-hari, serta melakukan dokumentasi bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data berupa tulisan atau gambar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kegiatan literasi Al-Qur’an salah satu media dalam mendekatkan diri kepada Allah untuk mencapai ketenangan dan ketentraman batin pada setiap siswa untuk membentuk pribadi yang matang, serta mampu meyakini dalam beragama. Dampak dari kegiatan ini terhadap peserta didik yaitu perubahan sikap karakter religius, menurut teori Gay Hendricks dan Kate Ludeman ada 8 Aspek sikap religius berupa kejujuran, adil, bermanfaat, rendah hati, bekerja efisien, memiliki visi dan misi, disiplin, dan keseimbangan diri. Dimisalkan sikap terhadap guru, orang tua dan sesama teman, serta dapat memotivasi dirinya sendiri dengan tanggung jawab dan kewajiban ibadahnya, seperti membaca Al-Qur’an, belajar ilmu agama, shalat Dhuha dan shalat dzuhur berjama'ah.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk melakukan analisis lingkungan internal dan eksternal berdirinya SMP Muhammadiyah 14 Sambi Boyolali dengan analisis SWOT. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk mendapatkan gambaran mendalam terkait objek penelitian. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Teknik analisis data dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan meninjau aspek komunikasi internal yang bagus, struktur organisasi, suasana organisasi yang agamis, sumber daya manusia yang ikhlas, dan sarana prasarana yang memadai. Analisis eksternal mengacu pada perizinan ke Dinas Pendidikan, pengumpulan bantuan dana pembangunan gedung sekolah, dan adanya dukungan penuh dari PCM dan PDM. Ditinjau dari analisis SWOT, berdirinya SMP Muhammadiyah 14 Sambi memiliki lebih banyak keunggulan dan peluang. Oleh karena itu, SMP Muhammadiyah layak untuk berdiri dan eksis sebagai lembaga pendidikan yang menawarkan konsep boarding school dan tahfiz Al-Qur’an. Kontribusi penelitian ini secara teoritis dapat menambah wawasan keilmuan dalam manajemen pendidikan Islam, dan secara praktis dapat menjadi rujukan dalam menganalisis internal dan eksternal lembaga pendidikan lain menggunakan analisis SWOT.

Abstract

The growing interest in mindfulness-based education highlights the need for approaches that integrate cultural and spiritual traditions to support students’ holistic development. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a Buddhist meditation retreat combined with mindful living education in enhancing mindfulness and compassion among students in Palembang City, Indonesia. Using a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups, the research selected 120 students from a population of 170 through the Slovin formula. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups across junior and senior high schools. The experimental group attended a structured retreat that combined traditional Buddhist practices, such as mindful breathing, insight meditation, and loving-kindness meditation, with mindful living activities inspired by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings, including cultivating awareness in daily routines, deep listening, and compassionate communication. Data were collected using researcher-developed questionnaires. Results showed that the experimental group experienced significant improvements in mindfulness and compassion, whereas the control group displayed minimal changes. Baseline equivalence was established, and post-test comparisons consistently favored the experimental group. These findings suggest that culturally grounded mindfulness programs can foster emotional awareness and prosocial behavior in youth. Practically, the study encourages educational institutions to adopt mindfulness interventions and recommends further research with broader populations, validated instruments, and long-term evaluation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The implementation of Merdeka Curriculum at MTs Negeri 15 Boyolali aims to create a learning environment that is adaptive and oriented to student needs. This research was conducted because there is still a lack of studies related to the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in madrasas, including the readiness of teachers who require specific training and the lack of in-depth understanding of the responses of students and parents who tend to still have a traditional mindset, so this study aims to explore three main aspects, namely teacher readiness, differentiated learning, and preparation of learning tools. Teacher readiness is improved through training and workshops, which focus on understanding the concepts of Merdeka Curriculum and applying innovative learning methods. Differentiated learning is implemented by grouping students based on ability and interest, and using varied methods to create relevant and interesting learning experiences. In addition, learning tools are arranged flexibly, including the flow of learning objectives and teaching modules. This research uses qualitative methods, with data collection techniques of interviews, classroom observations and document studies. The results of this study show that the application or implementation of this curriculum is less than optimal due to several faktors. This research is expected to provide solutions to some of the problems found so that the implementation of this curriculum can be maximized in Madrasah. ABSTRAK Penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka di MTs Negeri 15 Boyolali bertujuan untuk menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang adaptif dan berorientasi pada kebutuhan siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena masih minimnya kajian terkait penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka di madrasah, termasuk kesiapan guru yang membutuhkan pelatihan spesifik serta kurangnya pemahaman mendalam tentang respon siswa dan orang tua yang cenderung masih berpola pikir tradisional, sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi tiga aspek utama, yaitu kesiapan guru, pembelajaran berdiferensiasi, dan penyusunan perangkat pembelajaran. Kesiapan Guru ditingkatkan melalui pelatihan dan workshop, yang berfokus pada pemahaman konsep Kurikulum Merdeka dan penerapan metode pembelajaran inovatif. Pembelajaran berdeferensiasi diterapkan dengan pengelompokan siswa berdasarkan kemampuan dan minat, serta penggunaan metode yang bervariasi untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang relevan dan menarik. Selain itu, perangkat pembelajaran disusun secara fleksibel, mencakup alur tujuan pembelajaran dan modul ajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara, observasi kelas dan studi dokumen. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahawa penerapan atau implementasi kurikulum ini kurang maksimal disebabkan beberapa faktor. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi atas beberapa masalah yang ditemukan agar implementasi kurikulum ini bisa lebih maksimal di Madrasah.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the success of the existing education quality assurance system at Nurhidayah Integrated Islamic High School. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted with observation, interview, and documentation approaches as a data collection technique. The results of the study show that the quality assurance system at Nur Hidayah Integrated Islamic High School includes: Determination of quality standards in accordance with the minimum criteria in the National Education Standards and collaborated with the Quality Standards of the Integrated Islamic School Network. The school's Internal Quality Assurance Team consists of the following elements: Principal, Vice Principal, Foundation and School Committee. The success of the quality of education is greatly influenced by the following supporting factors: qualified educators and education personnel, selected students, cooperative guardians, sufficient funding, regular coordination and evaluation meetings by school leaders. Meanwhile, a number of factors inhibiting the achievement of the quality of education can be identified as follows: the understanding of related parties in implementing the quality assurance system is still lacking, the fulfillment of facilities and infrastructure standards is less than optimal, the density of school activities that can affect the learning process that is not optimal so that it is not always in accordance with the learning plan that has been made by the teacher. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keberhasilan sistem penjaminan mutu pendidikan yang ada pada SMA Islam Terpadu Nurhidayah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian meunjukkan bahwa Sistem penjaminan mutu di SMA Islam Terpadu Nur Hidayah mencakup : Penetapan standar mutu sesuai dengan kriteria minimal dalam Standar Nasional Pendidikan dan dikolaborasikan dengan Standar Mutu Jaringan Sekolah Islam Terpadu. Tim Penjamin mutu Internal sekolah terdiri dari unsur : Kepala Sekolah, Wakil Kepala Sekolah, Yayasan dan Komite Sekolah. Keberhasilan mutu pendidikan sangat dipengaruhi oleh faktor pendukung sebagai berikut : pendidik dan tenaga kependidikan yang qualified, siswa yang terseleksi, walimurid yang kooperatif, pendanaan yang cukup, rapat koordinasi dan evaluasi yang rutin oleh pimpinan sekolah. Sedangkan sejumlah faktor penghambat tercapainya mutu pendidikan, dapat diidentifikasi sebagai berikut : pemahaman pihak-pihak terkait dalam melaksanakan sistem penjaminan mutu masih kurang, pemenuhan standar sarana dan prasarana yang kurang optimal, padatnya kegiatan sekolah yang dapat berpengaruh pada proses pembelajaran yang kurang maksimal sehingga tidak selalu sesuai dengan perencanaan pembelajaran yang telah dibuat oleh Guru.

Abstract

An Innovative Student Management: Exploring the Impact of Meditation Retreats and Mindful Education on Mindfulness and Compassion Effectiveness Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Innovative Student Management (ISM) through the integration of meditation retreats, mindful living education, and compassion-based pedagogy in enhancing students’ mindfulness effectiveness, that defined as the ability to maintain sustained attention, emotional regulation, and awareness of thoughts and actions, and compassion, defined as the capacity for empathy and prosocial concern toward others. The research explicitly investigates how these practices influence students’ emotional regulation, empathy, and behavioural outcomes within Buddhist-based educational contexts. Methods: Using a mixed-methods design, the study combines a qualitative case study, literature synthesis, and a quantitative survey involving 120 students aged 11–17 from Buddhist schools in Palembang. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis, while qualitative data from interviews and observations were thematically analyzed to provide contextualization for the statistical results. Findings: Regression analysis showed that meditation retreats (β = 0.38, p < 0.01) and mindful living education (β = 0.42, p < 0.01) significantly predicted mindfulness effectiveness, which in turn mediated the increase in compassion (β = 0.47, p < 0.001). Qualitative findings supported these results, showing enhanced emotional awareness and peer empathy, as well as reduced impulsivity. The integration of both datasets confirmed that ISM fosters emotional regulation and prosocial behaviour while mitigating bullying tendencies. Conclusion: This study concludes that integrating mindfulness and compassion-based management in education effectively fosters students’ socio-emotional development. However, its cultural specificity and limited sample suggest the need for longitudinal, cross-cultural research and teacher training adaptations to ensure broader applicability. The findings contribute empirically to educational management theory by linking Buddhist-inspired pedagogies to measurable emotional and behavioral outcomes. Keywords: innovative student management, mindfulness in education, compassionate student, meditation retreat, mindful living education.

Abstract

Terjadinya wabah pandemic COVID-19 merubah seluruh tatanan aktivitas kehidupan, baik bidang ekonomi, Kesehatan, maupun Pendidikan. Adanya penyesuaian aktivitas membuat para pengambil kebijakan perlu mengambil Langkah yang responsive untuk tetap mempertahakan kualitas kehidupan, khususnya dalam dunia pendidikan. Perubahan dari aktivitas pembelajaran LURING (Luar Jaringan) menjadi DARING (Dalam Jaringan) membutuhkan waktu bagi para pelaku pendidikan untuk menyesuaikan, terutama bagi para guru. Prodi Manajemen Pendidikan Islam (MPI) UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta berusaha semaksimal mungkin untuk mengambil bagian dalam memberikan alternatif solusi atas setiap permasalahan-permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam dunia pendidikan. Prodi MPI menggunakan beberapa cara atau metode dalam menganalisis kebutuhan masyarakat, khususnya di sekolah, diantaranya; (1) studi pendahuluan ke lapangan, (2) rapat Dosen Prodi MPI, (3) penentuan tema kegiatan, (4) usulan tema kegiatan ke Pimpinan Fakultas, (5) koordinasi dengan Pimpinan lokasi kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM), (6) pelaksanaan, dan (7) pelaporan. Kegiatan PkM dilaksanakan di MAN 1 Klaten dengan dihadiri oleh 33 orang guru. Kegiatan PkM mendukung capaian mutu akademik dan capaian rencana strategis UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta yaitu membangun mutu akademik dan kerjasama dengan isntitusi diluar Lembaga. Kegiatan ini juga memberikan penguatan kompetensi professional bagi guru di MAN 1 Klaten yang dalam pelaksanaan pembelajarannya lebih banyak berinteraksi secara online selama pandemic COVID-19.
