Abstract

Unplanned facility layout is the main cause of operational inefficiency at PT Muhayya Cilegon Steel, a steel plate processing manufacturer established in 2024 in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia. Based on field observations conducted in March 2026, this company faces four fundamental problems: unverified location placement, 2.30% non-value-added activities, unstructured floor space calculation, and material backtracking caused by machines placed out of process sequence. This study applies the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) approach in an integrated manner. The stages include Factor Rating and Transportation methods, Operation Process Chart (OPC), Flow Process Chart (FPC), Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) analysis, and layout redesign using BLOCPLAN-90 software. The results prove Cilegon as the optimal location with the highest Factor Rating score of 4.25. The Least Cost method generates a distribution cost of Rp585,000,000, representing 7.5% efficiency improvement compared to the North West Corner method. The total floor space requirement is 168.991 m². BLOCPLAN Layout 6 was selected as the best layout with an Adjacency Score of 0.82 and Product Movement of 387, successfully eliminating backtracking in the existing conditions and fulfilling all critical adjacency relationships defined in the ARC.

Abstract

Plastic waste, which is difficult to decompose naturally, has become a serious environmental problem due to its potential to pollute soil, water, and air. This activity aims to process plastic waste from waste-collecting MSMEs into functional paving blocks with economic value. The program was carried out with partners from a Waste-Collecting MSME in Serang and KSM Gebers Cemerlang MSME in Cilegon using the 5W+1H method through observation, interviews, documentation, and direct practice of paving block production. The process included sorting, washing, cutting, melting, molding, and cooling of plastic waste. The results show that plastic waste can be successfully processed into paving blocks with good shape and potential market value, and the cleaning and cutting stages improved melting efficiency, while water cooling helped maintain the product form. It can be concluded that processing plastic waste into paving blocks is an applicable solution to reduce plastic waste generation and support the circular economy, although further testing is required to ensure product strength and quality according to standards.

Abstract

The snack food industry in Indonesia has transformed into a highly dynamic sector. Consumers, particularly students, tend to choose products that are practical, easy to consume, and have an attractive appearance. MSMEs are increasingly aware of the need to improve quality and hygiene by improving packaging materials. This situation has become one of the efforts to select packaging materials using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method. This method is used to integrate customer needs (Voice of Customer) into the product design process. Through the House of Quality (HOQ) tool, packaging attributes such as visual design, protective function, ease of use, and hygiene aspects can be identified and prioritized in a structured manner.
