Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a national health concern that reflects the socioeconomic conditions of a population and has a significant impact on the quality of human resources. This condition poses a high risk to both maternal and fetal health, thus requiring serious attention from healthcare providers. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia occurs when hemoglobin levels or the number of red blood cells fall below the normal range. At Kencong Community Health Center in Jember Regency, pregnant women with interpregnancy intervals of less than two years showed a higher tendency to experience anemia and pregnancy-related complications. This study applied a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving a population of 83 pregnant women, from which 32 participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and checklists, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results revealed that all pregnant women with interpregnancy intervals of less than two years were anemic, while no cases of anemia were found among those with spacing of more than two years. A p-value of 0.000 indicated a highly significant relationship between pregnancy spacing and the incidence of anemia. Therefore, it is recommended that women maintain a minimum two-year interval between pregnancies to allow for nutritional recovery and to prevent anemia in subsequent pregnancies.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are common among third-trimester pregnant women due to physical discomfort, hormonal changes, and anxiety. This study investigates the effect of frangipani aromatherapy on sleep quality in this population within the Kedungrejo Health Center area, Banyuwangi, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 60 participants divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received frangipani aromatherapy inhalation for 15 minutes before bedtime over four weeks, while the control group received standard care. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results showed a significant improvement in sleep quality scores in the intervention group (pre: 8.2 ± 1.5; post: 4.3 ± 1.2) compared to the control (pre: 8.1 ± 1.4; post: 7.5 ± 1.3), with p < 0.001. Data from Kedungrejo Health Center (2022-2024) indicate 527, 523, and estimated 530 pregnant women annually, with antenatal care coverage at 90.9%, 86.6%, and similar rates, highlighting the need for non-pharmacological interventions. Frangipani aromatherapy proves effective and safe for enhancing maternal sleep.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a public health problem that remains high in Indonesia and impacts maternal health and fetal development. This study aims to determine the prevalence of anemia and risk factors in pregnant women at the Saritani Community Health Center, Boalemo. The study used a cross-sectional design on 28 pregnant women selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire and hemoglobin level examination (HemoCue). Descriptive and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test were performed, with p < 0.05 as the significance limit. The results showed a prevalence of anemia of 42.9 % . Factors significantly associated with anemia included education level (p = 0.041), adherence to Fe tablet consumption (p = 0.022), parity (p = 0.037), and pregnancy spacing (p = 0.049). Mothers with low education, non-adherence to Fe tablet consumption, high parity, or pregnancy spacing <2 years had a higher risk of developing anemia. Age and diet did not show a significant association.

Abstract

Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period are vulnerable phases for mothers, so readiness in recognizing danger signs of labor is crucial for the safety of the mother and fetus. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education in improving pregnant women's knowledge regarding danger signs of labor in the third trimester. The study used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women in the third trimester who were selected purposively. The health education intervention was provided through group counseling with visual media and guided discussions. Knowledge measurements were conducted before (pretest) and one week after the intervention (posttest) using a valid and reliable structured questionnaire. The results showed a significant increase in maternal knowledge, with the average score increasing from 48.3 to 72.7. The proportion of mothers with good knowledge increased from 6.7 % to 56.7%. In addition, there was a significant positive relationship between the level of posttest knowledge and maternal compliance with childbirth recommendations (p = 0.028). This study confirms that structured, interactive, and family-involved health education effectively improves pregnant women's understanding and behavior in facing the risks of childbirth, thus potentially reducing childbirth complications and supporting the safety of the mother and fetus.
