Abstract

In recent decades, the share of women in the labor force has increased substantially. Work-life balance is an important issue for both employees/individuals and employers. This article aims to identify and map work-life balance measures of female workers in major scientific databases, through a bibliographic portfolio process and systematic literature review. Elsevier (SCOPUS) and ScienceDirect databases were used in this study. Data analysis was conducted using VOSviewer. The selected bibliographic portfolio consisted of 76 publications in the period 2016-2023. The results show that developed countries have a larger number of publications such as the UK (14 publications), the USA (13 publications), and South Korea (12 publications). The research fields that covered the most work-life balance research were Business, Management, and Accounting (20.6%), Social Sciences (20.6%), Health (19.1%) and only 4.6% for Engineering. International Journal Of Environment Research And Public Health (10 publications) was the source of the most journals that published publications on work-life balance in female workers. Analysis based on the highest keyword is Human (30 occurrences, 24 links, 218 total link strength and average publication in 2020), followed by female (29 occurrence, 24 links, 213 total link strength and average publication in 2020), while for the keyword Ergonomics (5 occurrence, 19 links, 40 total link strength and average publication in 2021). The group of objects widely studied in the discussion of work-life balance is the group of all employees as much as 43%, the group of female workers 23% and employees in the Manufacturing industry only 3%.

Abstract

PT Tiga Pilar Sakato is a medium-scale manufacturing company that produces iron poles in Indonesia experiencing problems at the painting station. The problem experienced is that the painting station is in an open space so that the production process is hampered if the weather is rainy. Based on observations in the field, it was found that the posture of the workers' bodies was not ergonomic, causing the risk of complaints and musculoskeletal injuries to workers. This study uses a participatory ergonomics method, namely active participation from employees at all levels to implement ergonomics programs in the workplace, in this study developing the application of participatory ergonomics in the workstation design process with a design thinking approach through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research flow begins with (1) Preparation stage (2) Observation stage and initial data collection (field study) (3) Evaluation stage of existing work stations with participatory ergonomics (4) Workstation redesign stage (5) Analysis stage and (6) Conclusion and suggestion stage. This study produced a selected design proposal with a spray booth concept that has an operator room with an ergonomic work chair, automatic spray gun, boiler heater to help speed up paint drying and a roller machine to make it easier to rotate the pole when painting. At the design simulation stage, it was seen that the existing ergonomic hazard potential check got a total value of 14 "Dangerous" (Value> 7), after the simulation was carried out for the selected design proposal results, it got a total value of 2 "Safe workplace conditions" (Value <2). This shows that the selected design proposal can reduce musculoskeletal disorder complaints for workers. This study also shows that the participatory ergonomics method based on resource, process and result criteria gets an average value of 4.75 "Good" in the workstation design process. Keywords: Participatory Ergonomics, Design Thinking, Work Station, Painting, Iron Pole..

Abstract

Workplace accidents remain a significant concern in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly in sectors with high physical labor intensity such as automotive repair workshops. This study aims to identify and assess occupational hazards in CV XYZ, a medium-sized workshop specializing in engine and body repair, using the Structured What-If Technique (SWIFT). Through field observations, interviews, and questionnaires, data were collected on potential hazards during major work processes. The SWIFT method was applied to examine risks based on frequency and severity, culminating in a Risk Rating Number (RRN) for each hazard. The study found 23 hazards in engine repair activities and 20 in body repair, with six identified as top-priority risks (RRN = 10). These included crush injuries, lacerations, and unsafe working postures. Recommendations were proposed to reduce risk levels, including the use of ergonomic tools, implementation of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety training, and workplace layout improvements. The findings underscore the effectiveness of the SWIFT method in fostering participatory risk assessment and enhancing safety awareness in SMEs. This approach provides a practical model for similar workshops aiming to improve their occupational safety and health (OSH) performance systematically.
