Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of jumping step-up training on increasing the takeoff rhythm in the long jump of elementary school students. Takeoff rhythm is a very important technical component because it determines the effectiveness of energy transfer from the run-up phase to the takeoff and jump phases. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design with 19 elementary school students participating in physical education. The research instrument was a long jump skills test that assessed the accuracy of the takeoff rhythm, while treatment was given through jumping step-up training for eight meetings with structured intensity. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to determine differences in results before and after treatmentThe results of the study showed a significant increase in the ability of the push-off rhythm after being given jumping step-up training. This increase is related to the increase in strength and explosive power of the leg muscles, motor coordination, rhythmic control of steps, and students' confidence when doing push-offs. Jumping step-up training is also suitable for the characteristics of elementary school students because the movements are simple, repetitive, and safe to do. Thus, jumping step-up can be recommended as an effective alternative plyometric exercise in physical education learning to improve the push-off rhythm and long jump performance of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of shadow training on volleyball smash ability among extracurricular participants at MTs Islamiyah Temayang. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 19 male students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a volleyball smash ability test that had established validity and reliability. The research procedure included a pretest, the implementation of shadow training over several sessions, and a posttest. Data analysis techniques involved descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test assisted by SPSS version 30. The results showed an improvement in smash ability after the implementation of shadow training, as indicated by an increase in the mean score from 8.95 to 12.42. The normality test results indicated that the data were normally distributed (Sig. > 0.05), thus meeting the assumptions for parametric testing, while the paired sample t-test results showed a significance value of < 0.001 (p < 0.05) with a t-value of -6.979, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. These findings demonstrate that shadow training is effective as an alternative training method in improving volleyball smash ability through enhancing movement coordination, timing, and structured technical mastery, although the improvement was not evenly distributed among all participants. Therefore, this study provides practical contributions for coaches and physical education teachers in developing effective training models that align with the characteristics of madrasah-level students.

Abstract

The primary objective of this empirical study was to investigate and quantify the correlation between the explosive power of the leg muscles and the velocity of straight kicks among Pencak Silat practitioners affiliated with the Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate in the Bancar District of Tuban. The study involved a cohort of 20 athletes, representing the entire population of the branch, who were selected through a total sampling (saturated sampling) technique to ensure data integrity. To gather precise physical and technical data, two validated instruments were employed: the vertical jump test, utilized as a metric for lower-body explosive power, and a specialized timed-kick test designed to evaluate the rapid execution of straight kicking maneuvers. The collected data underwent rigorous statistical processing using the Pearson Product Moment correlation formula. The analytical results revealed a calculated r-coefficient of 0.815, which significantly exceeds the critical r-table value of 0.444 at a 5% significance level. Furthermore, the observed significance value (2-tailed) was recorded at 0.000, which is well below the established alpha threshold (α = 0.05). These metrics provide conclusive evidence of a positive, significant, and remarkably strong relationship between the explosive capacity of the leg musculature and the resulting speed of the athlete’s straight kick. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that the explosive power of the lower extremities serves as a critical determinant of kicking performance; as an athlete's power output increases, there is a commensurate and linear improvement in the acceleration and impact speed of their straight kicks. Consequently, this study offers a strategic recommendation for coaching staff: to achieve peak competitive performance, training curricula must prioritize plyometric and explosive strength conditioning. Integrating targeted leg power exercises into regular practice sessions is essential for optimizing the technical efficiency and offensive capabilities of Pencak Silat athletes in competitive settings

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between back muscle strength and trunk and neck extension ability in Physical Sport students. Back muscle strength was measured using a Back Dynamometer (Back-D), while trunk and neck extension ability was measured using an Extension Dynamometer (Extension-D). This study used a cross-sectional correlational design with a sample of 38 students who met the inclusion criteria. The measurement procedure was carried out twice for each instrument, and the highest value was used for analysis. The Shapiro–Wilk normality test showed that all data were normally distributed (p > 0.05). The linearity test produced an R² value of 0.0007, indicating no linear relationship between the two variables. The Spearman correlation test was then used and showed no significant relationship between back muscle strength and trunk and neck extension ability (ρ = –0.030; p = 0.860). The results of this study confirm that these two physical capacities are independent domains and do not directly influence each other. Thus, the Back-D and Extension-D cannot be used interchangeably in evaluating trunk function, and each instrument must be applied according to the measurement objectives.
