Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using instructional video media on students’ interest in learning social studies in elementary school. The background of this research is the low interest of students in social studies learning due to monotonous teaching methods. This research uses a quantitative approach with an experimental method. Data collection techniques include observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The results show that the use of video learning media has a positive and significant effect on students' learning interest. Students become more active, enthusiastic, and able to understand the material better. Therefore, video-based learning media is effective in increasing students’ interest in learning social studies in elementary schools.

Abstract

Social Studies (IPS) learning in elementary schools still shows low student learning outcomes, particularly in the material on human interaction with the environment that requires conceptual and contextual understanding. This problem is caused by the dominant use of conventional teacher-centered learning, resulting in low student engagement. Although various innovative learning models have been widely researched, studies that integrate and compare their effectiveness specifically in elementary school social studies learning are still limited. This study aims to analyze and synthesize various innovative learning models and identify the most effective model in improving social studies learning outcomes. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review type. Data were obtained from relevant scientific articles and analyzed using content analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that innovative learning models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL), Project Based Learning (PjBL), cooperative models (TGT, STAD, Make A Match), Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), and Experiential Learning are consistently able to improve student learning outcomes. Problem-based and contextual models are considered the most effective because they are able to connect the material to students' real lives. Thus, selecting an innovative, adaptive, and contextual learning model is key to improving social studies learning outcomes.

Abstract

Conventional teaching methods are often cited as the primary cause of low student engagement and limited understanding of Indonesia's ethnic diversity in elementary education. This study aims to investigate the potential and effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in enhancing Social Studies (IPS) learning activities for Grade V students. Adopting a library research method, this study analyzes various academic references and previous research findings regarding PjBL implementation in elementary schools. The results indicate that the PjBL model, particularly through the creation of tangible products like the Indonesian Cultural Diversity Map, significantly boosts students' involvement, creativity, and critical thinking. Furthermore, project-based activities allow students to experience cultural pluralism firsthand, fostering a sense of patriotism and mutual respect. Thus, the PjBL model serves as a highly relevant alternative for improving the quality of Social Studies education in elementary schools.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara mendalam mengenai optimalisasi pemanfaatan warisan sejarah lokal sebagai media pembelajaran IPS bagi siswa kelas V SD guna mendukung pelestarian budaya sesuai agenda SDG 11. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah tinjauan pustaka (literature review) dengan mengkaji 16 artikel ilmiah relevan yang diterbitkan dalam rentang tahun 2021–2025. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola dan menarik kesimpulan komprehensif terkait fokus kajian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan warisan sejarah lokal, baik berupa situs fisik, artefak, maupun tradisi non-bendawi, efektif mentransformasi materi IPS yang abstrak menjadi pengalaman belajar yang konkret dan relevan. Penggunaan media interaktif seperti pop-up book dan digital storytelling yang dipadukan dengan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terbukti meningkatkan keterlibatan emosional, minat belajar, serta pemahaman siswa terhadap nilai-nilai budaya. Sinergi antara kreativitas guru dan pemanfaatan media inovatif menjadi kunci utama dalam memperkuat identitas sosial dan karakter toleransi siswa sebagai upaya konservasi budaya berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Basic education plays a crucial role in shaping students' personalities as the primary foundation for nation-building. However, the current advancement of globalization and digitalization has led to a decline in moral values, a diminished sense of nationalism, and a weakening of social interaction among students. Social Studies (IPS) learning, which should help shape social values, still feels impractical, difficult to understand, and less relevant to everyday life. Therefore, innovations in learning are needed that can incorporate values ​​from everyday life, one of which is by utilizing cultural heritage. This study aims to analyze the integration of cultural heritage-based social studies learning in character development for fifth-grade elementary school students. The method used was a qualitative research approach with a literature review approach on 28 selected scientific articles published between 2022 and 2025. Data analysis techniques were carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and systematic conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that integrating cultural heritage in social studies learning can improve students' contextual understanding, strengthen cultural identity, and foster character values ​​such as cooperation, tolerance, and responsibility. Implementation is carried out through the use of local wisdom, folklore, and regional traditions, supported by innovative learning models such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), and the 7E Learning Cycle. This approach has proven effective in increasing student participation, social empathy, and collaboration skills. Therefore, the integration of cultural heritage-based social studies learning is a relevant pedagogical strategy for creating meaningful learning and developing students with character, culture, and adaptability to current developments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of cooperative learning on students' social studies learning outcomes, particularly in the economic activities material for fifth-grade elementary school students. This research is motivated by the relatively low learning outcomes in social studies, especially in understanding economic concepts, which are often caused by the dominance of teacher-centered instructional approaches. This study applies a literature review method by examining and synthesizing relevant research findings from journals, articles, and scientific publications related to cooperative learning implementation in elementary education. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed systematically from selected literature sources. The findings reveal that the application of cooperative learning contributes positively to improving students' learning outcomes in social studies, especially in economic activities material. Cooperative learning promotes active student involvement, enhances collaboration and communication skills, encourages critical thinking, and strengthens conceptual understanding through group interaction and discussion. In addition, the implementation of cooperative learning increases students’ motivation and engagement during the learning process. Therefore, cooperative learning is considered an effective instructional approach to improve social studies learning outcomes in economic activities material for fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Elementary education in Indonesia faces challenges in the globalization era, particularly in maintaining students’ social awareness and local values. Social Studies (IPS) plays an important role in developing students’ social character, yet its implementation is often conventional and less contextual. This study aims to examine the utilization of the school environment as a learning resource in Social Studies to foster social care attitudes among elementary school students in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on quality education. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature study method. Data were collected from scientific journals, books, and relevant previous studies and analyzed through content analysis techniques. The results show that environment-based Social Studies learning enhances students’ engagement, understanding of social concepts, learning motivation, and social care attitudes. Learning activities that utilize the surrounding environment provide concrete and meaningful experiences through direct interaction with real social phenomena. Therefore, the use of the school environment as a learning resource is an effective strategy to improve the quality of Social Studies learning and support quality education in line with SDGs 4.

Abstract

The development of globalization, characterized by advances in information and communication technology, has had a significant impact on the world of education, especially in the formation of the character of students. Widespread access to information brings great opportunities to increase global knowledge and insight, but also presents challenges in the form of the inclusion of external cultural values that have the potential to shift local cultural values. This research aims to analyze the internalization of the value of local wisdom in social studies learning in elementary schools as an effort to shape the global character of students and their relationship with the achievement of SDGs 4 regarding quality education. The method used is literature review by collecting, reviewing and analyzing various scientific sources such as journals, books and relevant documents. The results of the study show that local wisdom has an important role as a source of material as well as a contextual approach that is able to increase understanding of concepts, life skills, and instill character values such as mutual cooperation, responsibility and tolerance. Internalization strategies are carried out through active learning such as Project Based Learning, Problem Based Learning, and contextual approaches. The role of the teacher is also very important as a facilitator, guide and role model. This integration supports the realization of inclusive, relevant and sustainable education.

Abstract

The era of globalization presents complex challenges for the identity formation of elementary school students due to the rapid flow of unfiltered information. The main focus of this study is to analyze the strategic role of teachers in instilling character values ​​through Social Studies (IPS) learning to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 concerning quality education. This study used a literature study method by reviewing thirteen selected scientific sources from the period 2020 to 2026. The research stages included determining the focus of the study, searching for reputable national journal articles, in-depth content analysis, and synthesizing the results in the form of descriptive-analytical narratives. The research findings indicate that teachers have a vital function as role models, motivators, and facilitators in internalizing the values ​​of honesty, discipline, responsibility, and social awareness in students. The implementation of IPS learning strategies based on a contextual approach and the integration of local wisdom has proven highly effective in strengthening students' personalities from an early age. However, significant obstacles were found in the form of low synergy between schools and parents and teachers' limited understanding of the holistic concept of character. The main conclusion emphasizes that optimizing the role of teachers through pedagogical innovation in social studies classes is a crucial tool for producing an intellectually intelligent and morally resilient generation. Cross-sector synergy is essential to ensure national education can sustainably face the dynamics of the global era for the nation's progress. ABSTRAK Era globalisasi menghadirkan tantangan kompleks bagi pembentukan identitas siswa sekolah dasar akibat derasnya arus informasi yang tidak tersaring. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah menganalisis peran strategis guru dalam menanamkan nilai karakter melalui pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) untuk mendukung tercapainya Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 mengenai pendidikan berkualitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi literatur dengan meninjau tiga belas sumber ilmiah terpilih dari periode 2020 hingga 2026. Tahapan penelitian meliputi penetapan fokus kajian, penelusuran artikel jurnal nasional bereputasi, analisis konten secara mendalam, serta sintesis hasil dalam bentuk narasi deskriptif-analitis. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki fungsi vital sebagai teladan, motivator, sekaligus fasilitator dalam menginternalisasi nilai kejujuran, kedisiplinan, tanggung jawab, dan kepedulian sosial siswa. Implementasi strategi pembelajaran IPS yang berbasis pada pendekatan kontekstual dan integrasi kearifan lokal terbukti sangat efektif dalam memperkuat kepribadian siswa sejak usia dini. Meskipun demikian, ditemukan kendala signifikan berupa rendahnya sinergi antara pihak sekolah dengan orang tua serta terbatasnya pemahaman guru mengenai konsep karakter yang holistik. Simpulan utama menegaskan bahwa optimalisasi peran guru melalui inovasi pedagogis di kelas IPS merupakan instrumen krusial untuk mencetak generasi yang cerdas secara intelektual dan tangguh secara moral. Sinergitas lintas sektor sangat diperlukan untuk memastikan pendidikan nasional mampu menghadapi dinamika zaman global secara berkelanjutan bagi kemajuan bangsa.

Abstract

Abstract The ever-increasing development of globalization has had a significant impact on the world of education, especially in efforts to shape the character of elementary school students. Increasingly easy access to information through digital technology not only has a positive impact, but also has the potential to influence students' attitudes and behavior if not accompanied by appropriate guidance. This study aims to analyze the role of teachers in shaping students' character through social studies learning integrated with the values ​​of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study type with a span of 2020-2025, namely by reviewing various literature sources relevant to the research topic. The results of the study indicate that teachers have a very important role, not only as a deliverer of material, but also as a guide, motivator, and role model in instilling character values ​​such as responsibility, social care, tolerance, and environmental awareness. The implementation of SDGs values ​​in social studies learning can be done by linking the material to everyday life, cultivating a positive attitude, and providing good examples in the school environment. In addition, character building is not only the responsibility of the school, but also requires the participation of families and the community. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that students can develop into individuals who not only excel academically, but also have good character and are able to face the challenges of globalization. ABSTRAK Abstrak Perkembangan globalisasi yang terus meningkat membawa pengaruh yang cukup signifikan dalam dunia pendidikan, terutama dalam upaya membentuk karakter siswa sekolah dasar. Akses informasi yang semakin mudah melalui teknologi digital tidak hanya memberikan dampak positif, tetapi juga berpotensi memengaruhi sikap dan perilaku siswa apabila tidak disertai dengan pendampingan yang tepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran guru dalam membentuk karakter siswa melalui pembelajaran IPS yang terintegrasi dengan nilai-nilai Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis studi pustaka dengan rentang 2020-2025, yaitu dengan menelaah berbagai sumber literatur yang relevan dengan topik penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki peran yang sangat penting, tidak hanya sebagai penyampai materi, tetapi juga sebagai pembimbing, motivator, sekaligus teladan dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai karakter seperti tanggung jawab, kepedulian sosial, toleransi, serta kesadaran terhadap lingkungan. Implementasi nilai-nilai SDGs dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat dilakukan dengan mengaitkan materi dengan kehidupan sehari-hari, membiasakan sikap positif, serta memberikan contoh yang baik di lingkungan sekolah. Selain itu, pembentukan karakter tidak hanya menjadi tanggung jawab sekolah, tetapi juga membutuhkan peran serta keluarga dan masyarakat. Melalui kerja sama tersebut, diharapkan siswa dapat berkembang menjadi pribadi yang tidak hanya unggul secara akademik, tetapi juga memiliki karakter yang baik dan mampu menghadapi tantangan globalisasi.
