Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of linguistic politeness and expressive comments in response to posts on the Instagram account "Medantalk" regarding the Pertamina corruption case in February 2025. This study uses Leech's politeness theory in 1983, known as the principle of politeness, and Yule's expressive speech act theory adopted from John Searle in his book entitled Pragmatics in 1996. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The research data are in the form of 72 comments distributed into 5 types of maxims and 4 types of expressive comments. The research findings show that Instagram users apply various forms of linguistic politeness, which include praise, generosity, humility, sympathy, and tact. Furthermore, these comments also contain expressive utterances reflecting emotions such as anger, disappointment, sadness, fear, and hope. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of politeness in commenting to foster mutually respectful relationships among Instagram users.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the factors that influence the formation of the character Sato Reang’s personality and to analyze the structure and dynamics of his personality based on Carl Gustav Jung’s psychoanalytic theory. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a literary psychology approach. The data source is the novel Anjing Mengeong Kucing Menggonggong by Eka Kurniawan. Data collection techniques include intensive reading, note-taking, and interpretation using Jungian psychoanalysis as the analytical tool. The findings show that Sato Reang’s personality formation is influenced by repressive social and religious experiences since childhood, particularly his relationships with authoritarian figures and the imposition of religious values. These experiences give rise to inner conflicts and shape a resistant personality that is deeply involved in a search for meaning. Psychologically, Sato’s ego develops reflectively with a dominant introverted attitude and the functions of feeling and intuition. His personal unconscious is dominated by paternal and religious complexes, while his collective unconscious reveals a rebellious persona, a destructive shadow, and an incomplete journey toward the self. His personality dynamics reflect the principles of equivalence, entropy, progression, and regression, indicating psychic tension resulting from the conflict between inner needs and social pressures. Thus, the character of Sato Reang represents an individual who fails to complete the individuation process due to persistent trauma and repression within his psychic structure. Keywords: Jungian psychoanalysis, consciousness, unconsciousness, personality dynamics, Sato Reang.

Abstract

This study uses Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis model to examine the media framing of President Prabowo Subianto's mediation offer in the Iran-US-Israel conflict in early March 2026. Six news articles from Kompas.com, Tempo.com, and Kumparan.com were analyzed through three dimensions: discourse structure (macro, superstructure, micro), social cognition, and social context. The analysis results show different framing patterns: Kompas.com emphasizes diplomatic balance accompanied by realistic skepticism of American dominance; Tempo.co highlights political pragmatism and doubts about its effectiveness; while Kumparan.com displays strong support from Iran while sharply criticizing that the initiative is unrealistic due to US hegemony. Overall, the media discourse reflects Indonesia's independent, active, and neutral foreign policy, but is influenced by domestic political interests and global power dynamics. This study contributes to the understanding of media framing in geopolitical crisis situations and the development of van Dijk's model in the context of Indonesian digital journalism.

Abstract

Indonesian language learning for tenth-grade high school (SMA/SMK) students still faces challenges in presenting descriptive text material that is engaging, interactive, and contextual. The material is generally presented through conventional printed textbooks and lacks integration of interactive visual elements and local wisdom. This condition results in low student interest and understanding of the material. In fact, various studies have shown that integrating digital technology and regional cultural content can increase student engagement and learning experience. However, the development of interactive flipbooks that combine descriptive text with regional cultural insights remains limited. This study aims to develop digital flipbook learning media with regional cultural insights for tenth-grade students. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The feasibility test was conducted through validation by media and material experts, as well as user testing with students. The results showed that the developed flipbook media received a very feasible rating from media and material experts. In addition, student responses were very positive, indicating that this media is interesting, easy to use, and helps improve students' understanding of descriptive text. Digital flipbooks with regional cultural insights are effective and suitable as learning media for descriptive texts in class X. They can integrate digital literacy with efforts to preserve local culture in the learning process.

Abstract

The role of online media in shaping public perceptions of legal justice through language construction. The research problem focuses on how perpetrators of petty crimes, corruption, and narcotics are represented in the news, how discursive practices influence the construction of meaning, and how the discourse reflects power relations. The study aims to analyze the representation of criminal perpetrators and uncover the ideology at work in legal reporting in Indonesian online media, namely Kompas.com and Detik.com, through a Critical Discourse Analysis approach using Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional model. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with data collection using listening and note-taking techniques. The results show differences in representation based on social class and type of crime. Media language tends to reproduce legal-formalistic ideology and shows symbolic inequality in the construction of justice. The conclusion of this study shows that the media not only conveys facts but also shapes certain social realities that reproduce power relations and class inequality in the Indonesian legal system.
