Abstract

The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by health workers is very important in preventing the transmission of infections, especially in the Central Surgical Installation (IBS) room which has a high risk. Anesthesia organizers are health workers who are vulnerable to exposure to infection because they often perform actions that are in direct contact with the patient's body fluids. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of the level of compliance of anesthesiologists in the use of PPE based on gender, age, education level and length of work in hospitals in the Cilacap Regency Region. This study is quantitative descriptive with a cross dectional approach. The research population is 38 respondents, the focus of observation in this study is an overview of the compliance of anesthesiologists in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in Cilacap Regency. This study showed compliance in the use of PPE with the compliant category as many as 24 respondents (63.2%), less compliant as many as 11 respondents (28.9%), while non-compliance as many as 3 respondents (7.9%). The results of this study show that there is compliance, lack of compliance, and non-compliance with anesthesia surgeons in Cilacap Regency.

Abstract

Hypotension is one of the most common complications following spinal anesthesia, particularly in patients undergoing cesarean section. If not properly managed, it can lead to serious consequences such as nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, cardiovascular collapse, and decreased uteroplacental blood flow, which may endanger both the mother and fetus. Therefore, preventive measures are essential to ensure patient safety during surgery. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of colloid fluid administration and intravenous ephedrine therapy in preventing hypotension after spinal anesthesia in cesarean section patients. This was a quantitative comparative study using a two-group pretest-posttest design, involving 80 respondents at RSUD Ajibarang. The subjects were divided into two intervention groups: one receiving colloid fluids and the other receiving intravenous ephedrine. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the interventions, and data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests to assess intra- and inter-group differences. The results showed that both interventions were able to increase blood pressure; however, intravenous ephedrine administration was more effective in maintaining hemodynamic stability. A statistically significant difference was found in post-intervention measurements between the two groups (p = 0.046), with the ephedrine group demonstrating a higher mean arterial pressure compared to the colloid fluid group. These findings suggest that intravenous ephedrine is superior to colloid fluid administration in preventing post-spinal anesthesia hypotension during cesarean section. Ephedrine can therefore be considered a preferred intervention for improving maternal safety and reducing the risk of complications during cesarean procedures.

Abstract

Background: Spinal anesthesia is a commonly used technique for cesarean section procedures. However, this technique carries a risk of complications, one of which is post-dural puncture headache (PDPH). PDPH can be caused by several factors, including multiple attempts at spinal needle insertion. Objective: To determine the relationship between the number of spinal anesthesia punctures greater than once and the incidence of PDPH in cesarean section patients at RSUD Ajibarang. Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 80 cesarean section patients who underwent spinal anesthesia were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation and interviews and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: A total of 96.3% of patients experienced two punctures, while 3.8% experienced three punctures. Most patients did not experience PDPH (90.0%), while 8.8% reported moderate headache and 1.3% reported severe headache. The analysis showed a significant relationship between the number of spinal punctures and the incidence of PDPH (p=0.001; r=0.367). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between the number of spinal anesthesia attempts and the incidence of PDPH among cesarean section patients at RSUD Ajibarang. The greater the number of spinal punctures, the higher the risk of developing PDPH.

Abstract

Pre-anesthetic anxiety is a psychological problem commonly experienced by patients before undergoing surgery with spinal anesthesia. This condition can cause both physiological and psychological impacts if not properly managed. Family support serves as an important external factor that helps reduce patient anxiety. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and anxiety levels among pre-anesthetic patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at Jatiwinangun Hospital, Purwokerto. This research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 43 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. Research instruments included a family support questionnaire and the Hamilton Rating Scale of Anxiety (HARS). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents with good family support had lower anxiety levels compared to those with poor family support. The Spearman Rank test obtained a p-value of 0.00 (<0.05) and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.230, indicating a significant relationship with a low correlation strength. Optimal family support can serve as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce patient anxiety before surgery.

Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the operating room is an essential component of healthcare services because healthcare personnel are exposed to various occupational hazards in a high-risk environment. As future healthcare professionals, anesthesiology nursing students are expected to possess adequate knowledge of OHS to ensure safe clinical practice and improve patient safety. This study aimed to describe the level of OHS knowledge among Applied Bachelor of Anesthesiology Nursing students at Universitas Harapan Bangsa based on age and gender. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach involving 135 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed descriptively through frequency and percentage distributions. The results showed that most respondents were 21 years old (51.1%) and female (69.6%). The majority of respondents demonstrated good knowledge of OHS across age and gender categories, and no respondents were classified as having poor knowledge. These findings indicate that Applied Bachelor of Anesthesiology Nursing students at Universitas Harapan Bangsa generally have good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety in the operating room. Strengthening OHS education through academic learning and clinical practice is expected to further enhance students' competence in implementing safe and professional perioperative care.
