Abstract

People have a lifestyle that tends to involve consuming junk food. Fried food is popular among the public because it is fast to serve and easy to obtain. However, the public is less aware of the safety level of fried food sold on the roadside, including fried food sellers' repeated use of cooking oil. Fried food sellers generally operate on the side of the road, where it is highly likely that lead metal (Pb) from dust particles and fumes from passing vehicles will settle in the frying pans and finished fritters. This research aims to determine the levels of Pb in cooking oil repeatedly used by fried food traders around the Muhammadiyah Makassar Health Polytechnic campus. The study was conducted as a laboratory experiment by collecting 10 samples of cooking oil repeatedly used by fried food traders. Based on the results of qualitative tests using the color reaction test method with 10% K2CrO4, 3 samples tested positive while 7 samples tested negative. Subsequently, a quantitative test was conducted by analyzing the Pb levels using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry method. The levels obtained were 0.1317 mg/kg for sample B, 0.2163 mg/kg for sample H, and 0.1589 mg/kg. The maximum allowable limit for lead (Pb) contamination, as stipulated in the Regulation of the Head of BPOM RI No. HK.00.06.1.52.4011 of 2009, is 0.1 mg/kg. Therefore, it can be concluded that cooking oil for frying on the roadside around the Muhammadiyah Makassar Health Polytechnic campus, when repeatedly used, can lead to increased levels of lead (Pb), as evidenced by 3 samples exceeding the maximum allowable limit.

Abstract

The determination of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) levels in sediment samples in Spermonde waters has been determined. Sampling was carried out in river and sea estuary waters. The method used in the analysis of Pb and Cd is the one specified by SNI 06-6992.3-2004 and SNI 06-6992.4-2004. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 51 of 2004, the general condition of Spermonde waters still supports the activities of marine organisms. The results showed that Spermonde waters received more Pb metal input than Cd metal. Pb metal content in river estuary and sea waters averaged 17.38 ppm. The highest Pb metal content is found in Lanjukang Island and Bone Tambung Island, each ranging from 20.88 ppm and 20.19 ppm. Meanwhile, the lowest Pb metal content on Barang Lompo island was 9.86 ppm. The detected metal content of Cd is only found in the Barrang Lompo and Kondong islands of Bali, each ranging from 1.04 ppm and 0.19 ppm, while the other locations Cd metal are undetectable. Based on the SQG value, the content of Pb and Cd in sediments in Spermonde waters is still in the standard range for sediment that has not been contaminated.

Abstract

Bar soap is a skin cleansing preparation in solid form made from soap with the addition of desired ingredients, be they natural ingredients or dangerous chemicals. Hydroquinone is a dangerous chemical which, if added excessively to facial cleansing soap, can cause hyperpigmentation on the skin. The use of hydroqunon according to BPOM regulation no. 18 of 2015 is included in the class of hard drugs. Hydroquinone is prohibited from being used because it has dangerous side effects such as skin irritation, facial redness such as a burning sensation and can also cause black spots on the face. This type of research is a laboratory observational study which aims to analyze the hydroquinone levels in bar facial cleansing soap that is sold at the Minasa Maupa market, Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The samples were tested qualitatively using the thin layer chromatography method and if positive results were obtained, quantitative analysis was continued using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. From the research results of 10 samples of bar facial cleansing soap, 1 sample was positive for containing hydroquinone, indicated by the presence of stains when observed under a UV lamp with an Rf value of 0.427, while the standard Rf value was 0.438. Meanwhile, the other 9 samples did not contain stains so the Rf value could not be calculated. Next, the positive samples were continued with quantitative analysis to obtain a hydroquinone level of 0.013%. The levels obtained were stated to be still below the standards set by BPOM No. 18 of 2015 which amounted to 0.02%

Abstract

Cholesterol testing is an important parameter for monitoring lipid metabolism disorders characterized by a decrease or increase in lipid content. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of storage time on serum samples for cholesterol testing that is delayed by 2 hours and immediate testing. This research was conducted in the laboratory of Puskesmas Tarakan using laboratory observation with the CHOD-PAP method, with the research subjects being students of Politeknik Muhammadiyah Makassar. Based on the cholesterol examination results using 15 samples that were directly tested, there were 3 samples that showed an increase and 12 other samples had normal values. After a 2-hour delay, there was a decrease in all 15 samples. In the paired sample t-test, it can be observed that the average serum sample for direct examination is 170 mg/dl, while the serum sample delayed by 2 hours has an average value of 131 mg/dl, showing a significance of 0.01 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect between the direct serum sample and the serum sample delayed by 2 hours. The storage of serum at room temperature must be done immediately to ensure more accurate results and to avoid enzyme changes in the serum.Key words: CHOD-PAP, cholesterol, direct examination.

Abstract

The chemical compound of CO gas is a gas that has no color and contributes greatly to environmental pollution as a result of incomplete combustion of fuel produced from motor vehicles. Carbon monoxide is very dangerous (toxic, so it is often referred to as the "silent killer". The presence of CO gas will be very dangerous if inhaled by humans because the gas will replace the position of oxygen that binds to hemoglobin in the blood. The purpose of the study was to identify the presence or absence of carbon monoxide (CO) in the blood of fruit sellers at the Sungguminasa Twin Bridge. This research is an analytical observational field research using the alkaline dilution test method. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with the criteria of working more than one year, working 8 hours a day and not smoking. The number of samples used as many as 9 samples of venous blood. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the presence of carbon monoxide gas was not identified in all blood samples of fruit sellers at the Sungguminasa Twin Bridge. This is because in the alkaline dilution test method, CO gas can only be identified with saturation levels above 20%.
