Abstract

This review provides an in-depth exploration of C60 fullerene-based polymers and their synthetic approaches, structural properties, and applications across various scientific fields, including material science, biomedicine, and nanotechnology. Starting from foundational developments in the synthesis of fullerenes, the review details the structural diversity of fullerene-based polymers, from cross-linked and end-capped polymers to more complex architectures such as star-shaped and side-chain polymers. It also discusses characterization techniques such as TEM, SEM, AFM, and DLS for assessing particle size, morphology, and distribution. Recent advancements in photovoltaic applications and supramolecular assemblies of fullerene-containing polymers illustrate the versatile applications of these materials. The review concludes with a discussion of fullerene’s potential in various applications, from cosmetics and gas adsorption to biomedical applications like drug delivery, antioxidant therapies, and diagnostics.

Abstract

This research aims to structuredly examine the latest developments in radar technology, combining adaptive antenna design, intelligent signal processing, and the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Radar Cross Section (RCS). This study aims to address the research gap on how radar hardware innovations can be fully integrated with artificial intelligence-based algorithms, a topic that remains largely unexplored in the current literature. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), with data from leading Q1 international journals indexed in Scopus, such as IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IET Radar, Sonar Navigation, and Remote Sensing of Environment. The analysis process includes article searches, application of entry-exit rules, retrieval of key information, topic clustering, and comparison of methods and results to identify key trends and remaining research gaps. The results of the study indicate that the main direction of modern radar research emphasizes the integration of adaptive antennas using metamaterials and phased-array systems, plus the application of machine learning and deep learning to detect and classify targets. However, significant challenges remain in optimizing the capabilities of learning models for general use across diverse environmental conditions, as well as effectively integrating hardware and intelligent algorithms. The key contribution of this research is the creation of a conceptual framework for modern radar that connects adaptive antenna components, artificial intelligence-based signal processing, and cross-disciplinary applications such as defense, autonomous vehicles, and earth monitoring. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for further research on the development of adaptive radar systems utilizing artificial intelligence and advanced materials, while also supporting strategic policy directions in the fields of defense and environmental surveillance.

Abstract

Global energy demand is rising while fossil fuel reserves are declining, making renewable energy a critical solution. Ocean wave energy, with a potential of around 2 TW, is a promising alternative, yet the corrosive marine environment challenges the durability of Wave Energy Converters (WEC). This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to compare the corrosion resistance of two WEC types, Point-Absorber and Pelamis, and assess their suitability for Indonesia. Results show that Point-Absorbers are prone to corrosion fatigue, whereas Pelamis devices are more vulnerable to crevice corrosion. Appropriate material selection, such as 316L stainless steel or carbon fiber composites, along with corrosion protection, is essential, and site-specific factors wave potential, grid proximity, and environmental impact must be considered for sustainable WEC deployment.

Abstract

Teknologi perlindungan individu telah berevolusi dari penggunaan material logam berat menjadi komposit serat berperforma tinggi yang lebih ringan. Meskipun Kevlar, Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), dan komposit hibrida (SiC/Ti6Al4V) telah banyak dipelajari, perbandingan komprehensif dalam satu kerangka kerja yang terpadu masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja balistik dari material-material tersebut menggunakan metode studi kepustakaan melalui sintesis kritis data ilmiah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa UHMWPE memberikan efisiensi massa yang unggul dengan densitas areal 126,8 g/m² dibandingkan Kevlar 49 yang sebesar 225,8 g/m². Namun, untuk menghadapi ancaman tingkat tinggi seperti proyektil penusuk lapis baja kaliber 12,7 mm, arsitektur hibrida tiga lapis (SiC/Ti6Al4V/UHMWPE) terbukti paling efektif. Sistem ini bekerja secara sinergis: lapisan SiC menghancurkan proyektil, lapisan perantara Ti6Al4V memberikan pengekangan dan distribusi beban, sementara pendukung UHMWPE mendisipasikan sisa energi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa perlindungan optimal dicapai melalui desain hibrida multi-lapis. Studi ini berkontribusi sebagai referensi ilmiah dalam upaya mengoptimalkan teknologi zirah masa depan melalui keseimbangan antara efisiensi balistik dan integritas struktural.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi material komposit dalam sistem perlindungan balistik modern mendorong penggunaan material ringan berkekuatan tinggi untuk meningkatkan efektivitas perlindungan individu terhadap ancaman proyektil berkecepatan tinggi. Helm anti peluru merupakan salah satu komponen utama dalam sistem perlindungan individu yang berfungsi melindungi bagian kepala dari ancaman fragmentasi dan penetrasi balistik sehingga pemilihan material struktur helm menjadi faktor penting dalam menentukan tingkat keamanan pengguna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik material komposit yang digunakan pada helm anti peluru modern serta mengevaluasi pengaruh konfigurasi struktur komposit multilayer terhadap peningkatan performa perlindungan balistik berdasarkan parameter back-face deformation (BFD) sebagai indikator utama tingkat keamanan pengguna. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi literatur komparatif terhadap berbagai penelitian ilmiah terkait material aramid, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), dan material komposit hibrida yang digunakan dalam sistem perlindungan balistik modern. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan struktur komposit multilayer berbasis serat aramid dan UHMWPE mampu meningkatkan kemampuan disipasi energi impak secara signifikan serta menurunkan nilai deformasi balik dibandingkan material konvensional berbasis logam. Selain itu, penggunaan liner internal berbasis busa gradien densitas juga berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan performa perlindungan balistik secara keseluruhan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi material komposit multilayer dan desain liner internal yang optimal mampu meningkatkan efektivitas sistem perlindungan helm anti peluru modern dengan massa struktur yang lebih ringan serta tingkat keamanan pengguna yang lebih tinggi. Abstract

Material komposit polimer banyak dimanfaatkan di bidang militer karena memiliki kombinasi sifat mekanik yang unggul dibandingkan material konvensional. Penelitian ini berfokus pada penggunaan material komposit polimer dalam aplikasi pertahanan, khususnya untuk kebutuhan balistik. Komposit polimer merupakan material yang tersusun dari matriks polimer sebagai bahan pengikat yang diperkuat oleh material lain, umumnya dalam bentuk serat. Penguat yang sering digunakan antara lain serat kaca, serat karbon, maupun serat alami, yang berfungsi meningkatkan kekuatan, kekakuan, serta ketahanan terhadap beban impak. Melalui kombinasi tersebut, dihasilkan material yang ringan, kuat, tahan korosi, dan memiliki kemampuan menyerap energi tumbukan dengan baik. Dalam konteks militer, terdapat beberapa kebutuhan utama yang menuntut ketahanan balistik tinggi, seperti perlindungan personel melalui pakaian dan helm, perlindungan kendaraan tempur, serta penguatan struktur. Dibandingkan material logam, komposit polimer terbukti memberikan performa lebih baik karena mampu mengurangi berat sistem tanpa mengorbankan kekuatan, sehingga meningkatkan mobilitas, efisiensi operasional, dan keselamatan personel di lapangan.

Abstract

Indonesia’s success in disaster management cannot be separated from the military’s role. The military plays a strategic role by mobilizing military resources on a massive scale through the military command system. However, the ability of Indonesian Army (TNI AD) soldiers and organizations, in general, is considered to have limited capabilities specifically for personnel handling natural disasters. This research aims to map the disaster management implemented by the Indonesian Army in disaster response through the Incident Management System. Data collection was conducted interactively through qualitative methods with in-depth interviews with the Indonesian Army’s Supply and Transportation Unit (Pusbekangad). The research results show that the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has competent resources in disaster response, involving the Indonesian Army’s Supply and Transportation Unit, which has primary skills and capabilities in logistics and transportation. These capabilities are facilitated by the Incident Management System, which is structured, systematic, and well-organized. The Incident Management System built by the Indonesian Army involves an incident commander, operation section, planning section, logistics section, finance/administration section, driver section, and the cooking team as a trained, capable, experienced, and ready-to-deploy ad-hoc organization in all operational areas. Abstract

Defense Diplomacy and Climate Change: A Case Study of Indonesia and New Zealand Climate change has emerged as a significant global security threat, particularly for Pacific and Southeast Asian island nations, including Indonesia and New Zealand. Threats such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and resource crises demand a more integrated response through defence diplomacy. This study analyzes the role of defence diplomacy in addressing climate change, focusing on regional cooperation in the Pacific and ASEAN regions. Using a qualitative approach and policy analysis, the research explores New Zealand’s strategies for reducing emissions in the defence sector and its engagement in multilateral forums such as the Pacific Defence Meeting. On the other hand, the study identifies the challenges faced by Indonesia in integrating defence diplomacy with climate change policy, including the implementation of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) and the Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience 2050 (LTS-LCCR 2050). The findings highlight the need for integrated cross-national responses to build more resilient regional security against the threats of climate change. Perubahan iklim telah menjadi ancaman keamanan global yang signifikan, terutama bagi negara-negara kepulauan di kawasan Pasifik dan Asia Tenggara, termasuk Indonesia dan Selandia Baru. Ancaman seperti kenaikan permukaan laut, cuaca ekstrem, dan krisis sumber daya menuntut respons yang lebih terpadu melalui diplomasi pertahanan. Studi ini menganalisis peran diplomasi pertahanan dalam menghadapi perubahan iklim dengan fokus pada kerja sama di kawasan Pasifik dan ASEAN. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis kebijakan, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi strategi Selandia Baru dalam mengurangi emisi sektor pertahanan serta keterlibatannya dalam forum multilateral seperti Pacific Defence Meeting. Di sisi lain, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi tantangan yang dihadapi Indonesia dalam mengintegrasikan diplomasi pertahanan dengan kebijakan perubahan iklim, termasuk implementasi Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) dan strategi LTS-LCCR 2050. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa respons lintas negara yang terintegrasi diperlukan guna menciptakan keamanan regional yang lebih tangguh terhadap ancaman perubahan iklim.

Abstract

Indonesia’s defense policy is shaped by the growing complexity of military, non-military, and hybrid threats that challenge national sovereignty and territorial integrity. In response to these evolving threats and the broader VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) environment, Indonesia has implemented the Sishanta strategy, an integrated defense approach combining military and civilian resources. This study examines the strategic role of Indonesia’s defense industry in strengthening national security, with particular emphasis on the development of indigenous defense technologies (Alutsista) and the importance of public-private collaboration. Despite its strategic position in Southeast Asia and increasing modernization efforts, Indonesia continues to face critical obstacles, including reliance on foreign technology, limited skilled human capital, and weak innovation capacity. The research identifies key strategies to overcome these challenges, such as promoting technology transfer, increasing investment in research and development, and enhancing workforce capabilities. The findings underscore the need for a comprehensive and integrated policy framework to support defense self-reliance and ensure long-term national security in an increasingly unpredictable global landscape.

Abstract

Indonesia’s border areas play a vital role in safeguarding national sovereignty and stability, particularly in facing cross-border security challenges such as smuggling, human trafficking, piracy, and overlapping territorial claims. This research aims to analyze national security strategies in border area management through a public policy approach. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on literature review, the study explores various strategies including military strengthening, defense diplomacy, the use of advanced technologies such as satellites, drones, and artificial intelligence, as well as the integration of economic and social policies in border regions. The findings reveal that effective border management requires a multidimensional approach involving synergy between the defense sector, local governments, civil society, and international cooperation. Investment in surveillance infrastructure, institutional reform, and the development of border economic zones are essential to build a resilient and sustainable security system. This study recommends a collaborative, strategically adaptive policy framework that responds to global geopolitical dynamics to protect Indonesia’s sovereignty and promote the welfare of communities in border areas.
