Abstract

Background: The prone position is one of the highly recommended interventions to treat hypoxaemia and lung injury in ARDS patients. However, its efficacy in non-intubated patients remains inconclusive due to predominantly being reviewed through observational and case studies. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy of prone position on the oxygenation status and mortality rate of ARDS patients through experimental studies. Methode: This review systematically searched three international databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL from November to December 2022, without restricting the publication year. The focus was solely on experimental studies examining the effectiveness of prone positioning in adult, non-intubated ARDS patients. The quality of studies was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool. Results: Of the 12 included studies, most RCTs were identified as poor quality. All patients appeared to be infected with Covid-19, and the majority were on conventional oxygen therapy. Most studies showed that the prone position was effective in improving the oxygenation status for up to two hours post-session, with a mortality rate not substantially different from that of control group. Further good-quality experimental studies are needed to strengthen these results. Conclusion: The prone position is quite effective in improving the oxygenation status of patients.

Abstract

Thalassemia major necessitates routine treatment that affects the physical, psychological, and social capacities of both the sufferers and their parents. In these circumstances, the way parents perceive their child's illness significantly influences their quality of life, making this a crucial aspect to consider. Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between illness perception and quality of life in parents of adolescents with thalassemia major at RSUD dr. Slamet Garut. Method: The study employed a cross-sectional approach, including 64 parents of adolescents with thalassemia major (aged 10-18 years) selected through consecutive sampling. The Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ) was used to measure illness perception, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQoL-BREF) was used to assess quality of life. Both instruments are validated and reliable, with BIPQ having reliability coefficients of r=0.40-0.78 (α=0.74) and WHOQoL-BREF having r=0.39-0.79 (α=0.94). The Spearman correlation test was utilized for bivariate analysis. Results: The findings indicated that 55 respondents (85.9%) had a positive illness perception of thalassemia, and 61 respondents (95.3%) reported a high quality of life. The correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between illness perception and the quality of life of parents, with a correlation coefficient of 0.548 (p<0.05). Conclusions: This concludes that there is a significant relationship between illness perception and quality of life in parents of adolescents with thalassemia major at RSUD dr. Slamet Garut.

Social support is essential in improving the quality of life for children with thalassemia major. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support and the quality of life of school-aged children with thalassemia major. Methods:This cross-sectional study involved 82 children aged 8-12 years with thalassemia major at Garut District Hospital’s Thalassemia Clinic. Data were collected using the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 4.0. Pearson correlation and linear regression analyses were used to explore the relationships between social support and quality of life. Results: The study found a significant positive relationship between total social support and the quality of life of children with thalassemia major (r = 0.388, p < 0.001). Among the different types of support, close friend support showed the strongest correlation with quality of life (r = 0.405, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Social support, particularly from close friends, plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life of school-aged children with thalassemia major. Close friend support was the most influential factor, followed by parental and teacher support. Abstract

Desain penelitian menggunakan sistematik review dengan protokol The Centre for Review and Dissemination and the Joanna Briggs Institute.
