Abstract

Academic pressures, lifestyle changes, and socio-economic factors significantly impact mental health, a critical determinant of academic success and well-being. Early detection and intervention are crucial to mitigate severe outcomes like academic underperformance and suicidal tendencies. Leveraging tools like the DASS-42, this study examines mental health patterns using Support Vector Machine (SVM) models, achieving accuracies of 88% for depression, 71% for stress, and 57% for anxiety. While the model excels in identifying "Normal" cases, its performance for "Mild," "Moderate," and "Severe" cases highlights limitations due to class imbalance and feature representation. The findings reveal that anxiety is the most volatile and severe condition, with peaks in 2018 and 2022, while stress remains manageable and depression moderately stable. Gender and program-specific differences emphasize the need for tailored interventions. Addressing challenges related to data quality, algorithmic transparency, and ethical concerns is essential for real-world applications. This study highlights the potential of machine learning in early detection and intervention for mental health issues. Future research should explore advanced feature engineering techniques and develop more interpretable models to enhance clinical decision-making.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Mass Blood Survey (MBS) conducted in August 2023 in Sungai Tebal Village, Jambi Province, in response to a malaria outbreak declared by the Regent of Merangin. The outbreak began with 52 confirmed malaria cases (50 Plasmodium vivax and 2 Plasmodium falciparum), indicating a substantial rise compared to previous years. The District Health Office, an academic institution, and community health partnered to carry out the MBS, which was launched six months after the index case. Prior to implementation, the team coordinated with local health authorities and community organization thus prepared for both rapid diagnostic testing (RDT) and public health education. A total of 33 individuals were tested, and all RDT results were negative, indicating no further local transmission. The findings underscored the importance of early detection, collaborative efforts, and sustained preventive strategies in malaria-endemic regions to avert future outbreaks. Keywords: Active Surveillance, Malaria Elimination, Outbreak Response, Rural Health, Integrated Control

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is caused in part by Aedes aegypti. Ae. aegypti's primary breeding habitat is a non-groundwater reservoir. Chemical variables including pH, salinity, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) all have an impact on the growth of Ae. aegypti larvae. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of water chemistry parameters on egg hatchability as well as the number of Ae. aegypti larvae and pupae in clothes washing wastewater. The experimental design in this study was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatment media (washing clothes wastewater from dengue patients' houses, water municipal waterworks, and abate) three repetitions. The parameters measured are egg hatchability, number of larvae, number of pupae, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, salinity, and total dissolved solids. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the Honestly Significant Difference (BNJ) test at a 5% confidence level. The results showed that wastewater from washing clothing had a 26.00% affect on the hatchability of Ae. aegypti, 22.67% of the larvae, and 10.67% of the pupae. The chemical content in clothes washing wastewater for DO is 7.60 mg/L, TDS is 136.00 ppm, pH is 7.80, and salinity is 0.10%.  The chemical content of DO and TDS in clothes washing wastewater differs greatly from water municipal waterworks and abate water, while pH and salinity do not differ significantly. This study concludes that wastewater from washing clothes has the potential to serve as a breeding ground for the Ae. aegypti mosquito, which transmits the dengue virus.

Abstract

The Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito is the main vector of filariasis and a popular effort to control it in society is by using chemical materials, but they cause toxic effects in humans, so it is necessary to use a repelant from natural ingredients, one of which is basil containing essential oils and proven to be effective as a repelant against mosquito. The objective of this research was to determine repelant power of n-hexane extract of basil leaves and stems against the Culex quinquefasciatus. This study was a laboratory experimental study using a completely randomized design, with 3 replications at 7 time intervals. The extract concentrations were 15%, 25%, 35 % and ethanol negative control 96%, the positive control repelant X containing 13% DEET. The results showed that the n-hexane extract of basil leaves and stems for 6 hours at a concentration of 15% was able to resist 75% of mosquito, a concentration of 25% was able to resist as much as 85.05%, and a concentration of 35% was able to resist as much as 92.51%, the one-way ANOVA analysis showed that the value of p = 0.000 (p<0,05), meaning that there was a difference in the number of Culex quinquefasciatus perching on the black cloth at various concentrations of n-hexane extracts of leaves and stems of basil, while the probit analysis showed that the effective extract concentration at 90% was 31.52%. The extract of n-hexane leaves and basil stems was effective as a repelant against the Culex quinquefasciatus.
